I recently had dinner on a busy Thursday evening. The owner, admidst shaking up cocktails for soon-to-be-diners and scribbling names and numbers on the wait list, stopped to greet me with a warm smile and a graciousness that made me feel as if I was about to enter her home for the evening. This cafe is ablaze with personal touches. The menu is dotted with house-made pastas, signiture dishes and house-cured meats. The food, while comforting in simplicity and portion was thoughfully crafted and each course was presented beautifully. The service is engaging, poignant, real and focused. I was struck by the wine list: esoteric within approach - there must truely be a wine for everyone. I have had few complete dining experiences in portland and this is always one of them. I left wondering why it took me so long to get back.
