Swanky decor; suburban clubbers 6/17/2002

Surreal going to a club at a mall to find a sea of J Lo clones. Thumpity hip hop, with no depth or DJ sensitivity. We circulated between the 3 dance floors (2 in the VIP 1/2 of the space), vainly searching for decent music. The good news: Scenery-improving go-go dancers. VIP room offered tassled pillows to recline on. The door policy: They asked as we approached (4 women, NOT J Lo lookalikes) if we were on the guest list. We weren't. The manager promised to ""take care of us."" He did: 2/4 got in free (averaging $10/head), and we all got access to the VIP lounges. So the entrance is negotiable... If you want access to the VIP portion, bring at least one friend in a scanty dress (we did), make a dinner reservation, or tip heavily. But why? There are soooo many better clubs in town. Pros: Swanky, VIP lounges, Celebrities Cons: Monotonous music, J Lo cloned patrons, Catty door policy more
