I've driven past Cafe 290 on my frequent drives between Houston and Austin hundreds of times. I've never stopped by, however, because of their unfriendly-to-late-night-travelling hours. Finally, curiosity overcame me and I made the trek. Perhaps my decision to order the Cheeseburger/LoneStar combination instead of their famous chicken fried everything soured my experience. It was tasty, but not worth the ~20 minute drive from downtown.
