They Fixed Me - A Great experience 2/22/2015

I suffered from Schizophrenia and visual and auditory hallucinations and had a phsycotic break in 2009. My brother didn't know what to do with me and took me to the police station. The police sent me to Harbor Oaks Hospital for treatment. I was an inpatient for about 2 weeks. They got me stabilized and back to normal. It was a positive experience. I talked to the psychiatrist once a day and they had a bunch of group theropy sessions throughout the day. They don't force you to go the the group sessions but they recommend that you do. I went to as many as I could. You sit in a group with other patients and talk to a psychologist. It was very helpful. The food was great. They served you in a cafeteria setting 3 meals and all the pop you can drink. I had them give me a wakeup call in the morning so I wouldn't miss breakfast and they did every morning. They had an art class to go to too. There was a lounge with couches that you could sit in and talk with other patients. They had a TV room too. I was pretty busy and only went down to TV room to watch the news. They keep you pretty busy. They had 3 phones that you could call out on or your loved ones could call in and someone would come get you to answer the phone. The doctors got me stabilized and back to normal within a week. They also had gym class once a day and recommended that you participate. They would never force you to do anything but it was good to go socialize with the other patients. We played volley ball and other games in the gym. There was 2 people to a room but my first week I was by myself in my room They also give you chance in the evening to buy snacks from the snack machine if your hungry and get a pop. I had a very positive experience at Harbor Oaks Hospital and would recommend it highly if your having problems. more
