Not so bad after all 9/23/2012

Felicia, the clerk at ER, and Mr. Cusirramos, the Patient Rep, were so helpful when my grandfather was admitted to ER. I had 3 young kids with me at the time. Coming from Upstate. No time to get a babysitter. They were so nice to put us in a family room so that I can talk to the ER doctor and nurse the baby comfortably. The security guard inside the ER watched my kids whenever I wanted to check on my grandfather's status. Mr. Cusirramos even gave us 2 sandwiches and drinks for us because I was too concerned to walk out. It was around 4pm and I didn't eat yet. He checked on us occasionally to see if we were comfortable. My grandfather is in stable condition now. The doctors, and there were many, were very committed to making sure he gets the treatment he needed. My grandfather gives everybody a hard time including any doctors but so far, the hospital staff have been patient and determined to deal with him. The head doctor of ICU took almost three hours to do what normally took him 10 minutes to do. My grandfather's vascular veins are very hard to get to and he fights even when sedated. There's one doctor in Medical ICU who we didn't care for but she's one of many. Luckily, she wasn't my grandfather's main doctor. The thing about this hospital that is concerning is the lack of teamwork within the group of doctors and departments. Information gets lost because one person doesn't share it with another. So, we often find ourselves repeat important info about my grandfather's condition. When one sees the patients who arrives in ER and the condition ICU patients are in, it's understanding how difficult working in a city hospital can be. more
