My daughter learned from and danced with this company in the early years before they settled in Battery Park.
They operated the very same way, a non profit that this dynamic mother and daughter established to offer cultural arts to many who could not afford it. Their hard work and sacrifice opened up a whole new world to my children and I. Theirs was a labor of love., I watched them struggle with too little space, never quite enough help and yet managed to always pull off a rich production with live orchestra on almost nothing . And our children were always supplied with costumes at no charge and paid a very small flat rate monthly fee for classes and performance instruction.
Most of all, I watched these dedicated women create an environment of respect for others with the expectation the students would follow their example. Most did, and those who did not were gently corrected. My children, now adults, and I will be foreve grateful, and our community was much richer for the blessing.
