I recently had a headlight switch fixed on my car. I call a couple of other places in Fargo, None of the could get me in the same day. So I called Tuffy Auto Center. They told me the will check it out, but they charge $90 an hour. The mechanical the does most of the electrical work was busy, so they had their lube jockey looking at my car at $90 an hour.
Through all there searching they found that the headlight switch was bad and need to be replaced.
The total was just over $400. I call another garage and they looked up the parts and labor, and they said on the high end it would be $225. I called up Tuffy's and told them this. They said I could take over to them if I wanted to but I still Tuffy's $145 for the diagnosis. I decided to stay with Tuffy's. Because the difference in price would only be about $25 to $30.
Another thing you need to beware of is the high cost of shop materials. This is another way they will take you to the cleaners. For replacing my head light switch, they charges me $18.50 in shop materials for replacing 2 electrical parts. I could see 5 to 10 dollars. but $18.50 was way to much for paper towels and a little soldering.
