Seattle Sewer Inspection

Highly recommended 3/9/2010

I live in a 100-year-old house on Capitol Hill with -- you guessed it -- a 100-year-old sewer line. I called Seattle Sewer Inspection because I thought I detected some sewage seeping out of the ground near the sidewalk. The first time Aaron came here, the line was so full of sewage that we were unable to see (his camera provides its own light, but sewage can be opaque). He recommended that I snake out the line, and he agreed to come back for an additional $100. Aaron is a pleasure to deal with -- quick, tidy, no-nonsense, obviously highly competent -- and my favorite thing about his business is that he's totally agnostic when it comes to recommending repairs. Because he doesn't do major repairs himself, he'll give you impartial recommendations that are tailored to your budget. In my case, the most severe problem is a separation between two segments of clay pipe caused by a large root -- he gave me a full range of suggestions from an inexpensive spot repair to "pipe bursting" a segment of the line to replacing the entire line. If you're reading this review, I don't envy you, because you probably have a sewer problem. But if you are like me, the kind of detailed information you'll get from Seattle Sewer Inspection will be of tremendous help as you decide what to do next. (I can also imagine the service being useful to anyone considering buying an old house.) more
