I spent two hours at GCHS looking for the right dog to adopt. It was a hard choice because all of the dogs wer adoptable and cute. I did notice that many of the dogs have been there a long time and couldn't figure it out. When my wife and I finally found the perfect dog and filled out the application and agreed to the $150.00 fee, we were surprised to hear that we were denied because we listed that the dog would be kept outside in our large, fenced backyard. I explained that we love our dogs ( we already own 1 registered lab), and that we spend a lot of time going to the beach, river or the ranch with our dogs every weekend and they said that they will only allow adoptions to dogs who will be kept inside as per the " Director". I immediately realized that this must be the reason why so many dogs have been in the shelter for so long. We have a huge yard, a loving home and 1 happy dog. I can't imagine any of their dogs being in a better condition in their kennels than with our family in our big backyard and road trips to the outdoors every weekend with the family! Absolutely ridiculos policy. I have donated money to the Humane Society throughout the years and believe in their mission but I won't give them another penny. On another note, I did not get to meet or speak with the "Director" but the facilities were very nice and the staff was very professional. I jar wish they wouldn't have wasted my time and advised of the policy as soon as I expressed an interest of adopting from them. We would have given that dig a great home, Shame on the GCHS!
