Going To Zinszer's brb (before long)...And, Now, I'm Back! 4/6/2006

Good Morning! It's now a little after eight-thirty in the morning, and I haven't been to Zinszer's since last month--but not because I haven't been thinking about it. I have no idea what their Cookie Of The Month is, though I can tell you that last month's offering was an apple cinnamon one, and it was (as are ALL cookies of the month) absolutely delicious. The apple cinnamon one was all nice, soft, and moist with a light flavor of apple and wonderful, little sparks of cinnamon all over. Anyway, I'm off to "do research" now. I'm not being a glutton. I'm doing research--okay!?! So get off my back! brb... I'm back! It's almost noon, and I've had a great morning. First, I ran a couple of errands for my mom (who turned 84 today, and we plan on celebrating later). Then, I was off to Zinszer's. I had hoped to pick up a loaf of their delicious jalapeno bread, but they didn't have any baked. No problem! I picked up a loaf of apricot bread instead. I've had both of them before, and they're absolutely delicious. April's cookie (I confess to buying two--more thorough research, y'know) is white chocolate mint. It's a big, soft, puffy cookie with pieces of white chocolate in it along with medium-brown pieces that seem to be responsible for giving this cookie its distinct and delicious mint flavor. As my next stop would be Espresso To Go (discussed in a separate review), I decided to buy an espresso bar as well. These treats are brownie-shaped but go beyond being brownies. They have multiple layers of individual flavors that taste like white chocolate, dark chocolate, coffee, and peanut butter (I think that was peanut butter I was tasting. It certainly looks like smooth peanut butter)--plus a dark cake type of layer. I decided to close my eyes when I ate it so that I could better focus on each piece of it. Zinszer's makes quite a variety of cookies, cakes, and breads. When the weather gets warmer, they will, no doubt, also offer their ice cream sandwiches. They have about three or four flavors of ice cream which they put between two cookies and let freeze in order to be ready for loyal and eager customers such as myself. Service is very friendly. You can park and go in or else pull up to a window, press a buzzer, and be waited on there. Tip: press the buzzer gently because I've had a couple of the clerks tell me that the buzzer about scared them to death when I pressed it hard. I would hate to cause their loved ones to grieve--and, besides, I would miss them, too--so, these days, I just give it a quick poke so that it gives a quick pig-grunt instead of a long "Braaaaaaaaaat!" One thing that Zinszer's is famous for is how they can ship either a foot or a yard of a cookie selection all over the continental United States. The cookies--the customer specifies which kind and how many--travel in tubes. Or, you can simply pick up your foot or yard and give it yourself, if the giftee is local. This storybook cottage is on the southwest corner of Ames and Broadway. If you're in the neighborhood, be sure to check it out! more
