Disappointed 12/12/2011

I ordered a salad from here for lunch awhile back and starting eating it. The lower I got down in the salad I noticed that the all of the lettuce in the bottom was rotted. Bothered me greatly. I had been to the restaurant several times and always enjoyed their salads. more

Great food good staff always enjoyable. 11/17/2010

This restaurant has never failed to disappoint when I have been a patron and recently they again lived up to, if not exceeded my expectations. My wife and I recently enjoyed eating here prior to an evening spent at the theatre and the experience was magnificent. We unfortunately did not have reservation and they were at capacity but they had plenty of room on the patio. We were immediately seated and our waitress was very personable. We ordered an appetizer of Hummus with Italian flat bread which was delightful. For our main courses my wife ordered the Brick Chicken and I the Sesame Crusted Tuna. The chicken was chili rubbed, semi-boneless chicken breast grilled with brick presses and creamy polenta. The tuna was served with a sweet ginger sauce and wasabi mashed potatoes. The food was excellent and the service exquisite. I highly recommended. more

Food-Pretty Good, Service-AWFUL 5/12/2010

My wife and I went to Zax for brunch on a lazy Sunday after a friend recommended it to us. Menu items looked good, creative and fresh. We ordered the crab brunch item and eggs benedict. Once we got the food the service went completely downhill. Our waiter never showed up again to ask for a water or coffee refill. The hostess was more interested in flirting with the other waiters. There seemed to be an inordinately high number of waitpersons to patrons ... and we STILL didn't get good service. The management seemed lax as the waitpersons seemed like they really, really didn't want to be there. What happened to Austin politeness and hospitality? If I wanted attitude, I'd move back to New York! Pros: Food is tasty Cons: Brunch service left a lot to be desired more

Always a great place! 4/4/2010

If you have not tried this place you need to! They have a great menu and everything on it is good! My favorite part about going to Zax's is you know you will have a great experience. The ambiance is wonderful (in and out), they have fun drinks & beers and the staff is so welcoming! TRY IT!!! You wont regret! Pros: Great service, good food, friendly staff and great patio more

Wednesday Nights - Great Place for Happy Hour 3/9/2010

If you going to go to Zak Pints and Plates, make sure its Wednesday nights and you sit at the bar. Food is good too, but a bit on the pricey side. You make up for it though by adding a new beer pint to your freezer collection. Pros: Free Beer Mugs Cons: Pricier Food more

Pleasantly surprised 1/1/2010

Met some friends there for the first time. We were relieved to see that it was a tasteful, classy looking joint. Beer selection was very good and the food was outstanding. They have happy hour from 4-7 and they give you full size appetizers, not tiny ones like some places do. They had live music and it was wonderful and not too loud. Just turned out to be a great and fun night! We will be going back. Pros: great ambiance Cons: got yelled at by the guy next door for parking in their lot more

Food choices are great and prepared well. Service was great, staff was attentive but not overly so. No one in town can make better omelets and fries! Fun place in the everning to relax and unwind. Pros: Best omelets in town! more

went for brunch last week, and it was a good experience...the waitstaff was helpful and our food was yummy. we had a big group, and even though they don't split checks...they do take several credit cards, so it was no trouble at all Pros: good service, yummy food more

Great location Downtown, a hidden gem 4/22/2009

Great food, great portions and even have very healthy foods. They take care that meats and such are quality grade. The atmosphere is like an upscale kitchen in a house on the hills of Lake Travis, wood floors and such. They have a bar and the folks there are very nice. Parking is really tough, but if you can find parking or go early, its worth it. The salads are terrific. more

Whenever my old boss wanted to talk to our whole department, he would take us all down to Zax. Those were my favorite Fridays! Zax has some of the most creative and filling salads you can find in town! more

Great Food and Friendly Service... 7/23/2008

My husband and I went in after I had been there for a work happy hour. The food was tastey, making us want to go back to try other items on the menu. The first time we went we got burgers and they were yumy. The second time, pizza and the pork quesadilla. Last time our I had the pork loin and it is a MUST TRY! The food is prepared well and the taste is amazing. The service is always good. Give it a try and you'll go back for more. more
