Definitely not my favorite dim sum place in the city. They have two locations in Financial district. The restaurant is always packed, dont' understand why, their food is expensive and not really good. But, at least the place looks clean, and service is pretty good. more

Yank Sing 5/10/2006

I don't live in SF anymore but when I was there I used to go to Yank Sing for work lunches. It's always packed and is definitely a westernized (but authentic) dim sum spot in that all the servers describe exactly what they are serving and most of the passed options are relatively mainstream. On one occassion I dined with a chinese friend who ordered off the menu and our server was more than happy to put in a special order. This dim sum spot is definitely a little pricey so plan to spend a bit more than your typical dim sum place. more

Sometimes you don't get what you pay for 4/29/2006

A Yank Sing haiku... Randomly priced treats Why are you so expensive? Ton Kiang? Better. There are much better places for Dim Sum, such as Ton Kiang, but 40 minutes on the 38 Geary is just too darn long of a trip when you just want a quick couple of dumplings and some buns. So, the premium price equates to a penalty for lazyness. No consistency on the pricing or itemized receipt (take a hint from Tian Sing) makes me suspect that a $40 lunch for two one week costs $70 the next. Overall, the food quality is good - but not nearly as good as when they operated the Battery Street location. The Rincon facility on the weekend is just too large and impersonal. A good place to introduce visitors to Dim Sum and when someone else is paying. PS: if Ton Kiang is only two syllables instead of the three I think it is, make the last line of the haiku "Ton Kiang? Much Better" more

Ho hum 4/15/2006

Yank Sing is a bit overrated. I've tried numerous dim sum places, and this place doesn't even pose the top 10. The place is cramped, and there is a long wait to get to a table. Some of there dishes are above average, but not to get charged the prices that they charge. There are far superior dim sum places in other parts of the city. The service is decent because the radius of the place is so small. more

Dim Sum 4/15/2006

Every time my friends and I go here for Dim Sum I am never disappointed. What sets this restaurant above the rest is not only the food but the service. Everyone there seems to enjoy their job and they even smile! You don’t have to chase after anyone for extra tea or a glass of water, they are right there. The food is to die for and they offer a number of variety of dishes that caters to the customers’ tastes. The bathrooms are really clean and other restaurants should take note of this place. The only complaint I have is the wait for the table. The price of the food is above average compared to other Chinese cuisine but the food tastes great and is full of flavor. Best Chinese cuisine in the Bay Area! more

not what it use to be. it's always been expensive dim sum BUT it use to be good. not anymore. i use to frequent yank sing when the location on battery was still open. the foil chicken and everything else for that matter was delicious.. seriously not anymore. perhaps the only thing that is still good is the peking duck. more

dim sum delight 1/29/2006

I'm going to cut to the chase on this one. Here's what I liked about Yank Sing: 1) The food came fast and furious. 2) The servers spoke enough English that you knew what you were getting. 3) Everything tasted good (esp. the pork dumplings) and was reasonably priced. And now, here's what I didn't like: 1) The food carts came almost too quickly, leaving no digestion time. 2) Our corner table was really stuffy. 3) We never saw a dessert cart. Overall, I had a good time, but am convinced that there are better dim sum options out there. more

Hong Kong Dim Sum - Great Variety, Good Prices 12/16/2005

Any city with a Chinatown has Dim Sum restaurants. I live by NYC and HSF is a really fun place for this Hong Kong style meal. When I went to San Francisco, the first meal I had was at Yank Sing and it was wonderful. The place is clean. The food is presented well and the variety of dishes was excellent. I brought some east coast business folks (I am the resident foodie) none of whom had ever had Dim Sum. They were very pleasantly surprised by the experience. I am sure that a real Bay Area local would be able to tell me about another great place (I found this one by reading some SF food books) but I would go back to this in a minute. As for the prices - they are similar or better than NYC. more

My Review 9/14/2005

This restaurant doesn't offer the best chinese food in the area. There isn't much variety to choose from for take out food either. Prices are on the high side and portions are small. Often times the food is greasy and sitting in oil and vegetables are overcooked. If you want to save your money, skip this restaurant. more

Good dim sum, expensive prices 9/14/2005

This dim sum restaurant has delicious food, but is way overpriced. My boyfriend and I stopped in on Sunday, they were very friendly and easily explained the dishes, but when the bill came, we were quite surprised. If you just want dim sum, I recommend going to china town instead of paying the prices here, but if you just want a nice meal, and are willing to pay for it, the food is delicious more
