Greasy chips, food was ok otherwise. A lovely distinct odor of sewer gas takes you back to simpler times, making you simply stayed home and had a sandwich. Condemn this place now!!! more

Xochimilco Restaurant is one of my favorite Mexican Restaurants in Detroit. Actually, I live in Houston now, and I prefer Xochimilco to nearly any Mexican Restaurant I've been to in Houston. Too much TexMex going on in Houston. If you live in MI make it a point to go to Xochimilco’s; you won’t be disappointed. more

BEST MEXICAN IN DETROIT 2/3/2011

The Super Nacho's are out of this world, no one makes them better then Xoc's. And their Amaretto Organe Bloosoms are fantastic, i would love the recipe. Yeah the decor has not changed in 20 yrs, but that is what make you feel like you are in a wonderful old mexican restaurant. If i lived closer i would be their everyday. more

Nice lunch 4/5/2010

A fun lunch in Mexican town. The enchiladas were tasty, hot and fast. Pros: Good fast service Cons: Margaritas from a huge machine more

Poor Experience 4/4/2010

We headed to xochimilco yesterday as both a family Easter celebration and also my son's 20th birthday. I hadn't been there in probably 20 years or more. That is how the decor looked, very outdated and almost grungy. I had made a reservation for a party of 12. They started off by trying to seat us at 2 tables when there was barely anyone in the restaurant. We finally got that straight.\r The flaming cheese was not flaming (what is that about?) It tasted ok but no ambience. For the first time I can remember, I actually sent my chile rellenos back. It was horrible, full of grease. The staff was very drab and not energetic at all...maybe they didn't like working Easter. We had to ask for some items like water several times. The chicken fajitas were very good. No deep fried ice cream at all. It was nice to get the family together but based on our experience I would give xochimilco a miss next time. I am not a really fussy diner but I do like to feel appreciated as a patron. No where was that evident in our visit. Pros: Reasonable Prices Cons: Attitude of the staff, environment, some food more

Disapointed in a Used To Be! 11/5/2009

So disapointed in what used to be a favorite! Xochilmico has jumped the shark!!! The food has gone greasy and overly salty. The staff are unprofessional and even condisending and discriminatory! There are so many other mexican restaurants in the area, makes staying away from here an easy thing! more

Very Disappointed 9/14/2009

My family and friends decided we wanted to eat some good Mexican food. Since Xochimilco has not been a disappointed in the past we decided to have a late evening meal there. All of our meals tasted like frozen food that was reheated and served. Sorry to say we will not go back there again nor will I recommend this establishment to any of my family or friends. I am truly amazed at how poor the quality of food tasted considering they use to be the best in town. more

Very good food at a great price. 8/27/2009

We went as a church group of about 12 people. We called several hours before getting there and they made reservations.\r \r The men's bathroom was not accessible for me in my wheelchair but they let me use the ladies, and let others know I was using it, even though I could lock the door.\r \r All in all, a nice experience and we will consider going back as a group. Pros: Friendly helpful staff and good food Cons: Quite dark, hard to read their menu more

terrible food 8/17/2009

Horrible food. I live in Sw Detroit and would never recommend anyone eat here or eat there myself. Quality of food has gone downhill in last 10+ years. There are so many better restaurants here i dont understand why people eat there. No locals eat there trust me! Try lupitas, or evies down the street or even go down vernor to los altos, or mi pueblo! Not a good restaurant-end of story! Pros: good location Cons: terrible food more

YUM 7/1/2009

XOCHIMILCO is my all time favorite mexican restaurant. I can barely say the name but that doesn't matter...The food is awesome (their wet burrito is my favorite), resonable in price, and the service is quick. I also am a big fan of their tastey margaritas. more

Good Mexican/Latino food and family-friendly! 3/22/2009

Several bars located within the two story restaurant. The slightly cramped seating doesn't detract from the good food and overall fun atmosphere. Pros: Excellent food! Cons: Table seating is a little cramped. more

Motowns Best Mexican 2/16/2009

Its dirt cheap and has really great food. the fajitas are great, a huge serving, but great. The salsas good the tortillas are good the steak in the fajitas was great. it was better than any mexican food ive had in any other city except maybe San Antonio. Pros: Dirt Cheap Great Food more

We Got Sick! 12/16/2008

We placed a huge order for my office - tasted good going down, but the next day, 9 employees with dia rhea and 2 out sick! Nasty! more

Good food terrible customer service 9/21/2008

I called in a carryout following a long workday. The person taking the order English wasn't the best & the Mgr Tony took the phone. We confirmed the meat choice as Ground Beef (regular) not Chunky Beef (look like brown chunky tuna). Long story short, when I got home I was shocked to see the order was wrong after we discussed and confirmed it. I called back spoke with Tony the manager, explained to him the situation. He was rude and nasty from the start and stated that I got what I ordered and I needed to bring it back. Flabbergasted by his demeanor, I asked him if he had me mixed up with someone else maybe having a bad day (perplexed by his behavior). Only for him to reiterate what he said in same nasty tone. I explained to him that I lived to far to drive back for a$10 meal but I would gladly return 100% of the meal tomorrow when I came that way for work. Contrary to the truth, he said again ""You got what you ordered, either bring it back now or forget it.? I asked him was business so good that this is now how they treat customers...He then hung the phone up in my face. I later called back an spoke with the lady I initially spoke with earlier to confirm the meat requested and unaware of what was going on she said yeah the ground beef (which she refers to also as Regular) which confirmed my either he wrote it wrong (probably) or the kitchen made an error, however, I still cannot understand what happened to make him act so irrational. I told him I was coming there before he became manager there, my co-worker and I were planning an event there to celebrate a promotion I just received, but NO MORE they have no respect for there customers! Pros: Food Cons: Customer Service - Management more

Good food but... 8/12/2008

I've been going to Xochi's for about 20 years... until recently when I saw an insect crawling on the wall. I was disgusted and so upset because I truly loved that restaurant for so many years...and now I can't even stomach going in there. In the past, friends have told me that they too have seen insects there... but as far as I was concerned, out of sight out of mind... until I experienced it for myself... I'm sorry if I've ruined it for anyone else now :( Pros: Great food, fast service Cons: Insects more

Not bad for a family dinner out 3/3/2008

Our family of 5 (two adults, three kids) went to Xochimilco on a Saturday night for dinner. We ordered three main dishes (my 10 year old eats more than a kid?s meal) and two kids meals. My wife and I shared a drink from the bar. We ate ""upstairs."" Generally, we enjoyed ourselves.\r \r Environment: There have been some comments about it being dark, musky, and even unclean. I would have to disagree with those comments. I never felt like the food or area was unclean and the ""mood"" of the room wasn't dark and musky. It was busy, active, and generally very upbeat.\r \r Quality: The food was good. Nothing to write home about, but filling. Our kids were happy, although their food was nothing like Taco Bell. The warm chips and salsa was a great starter, I'd have to say they were the bright spot of the meal.\r \r Price: I've read a lot of comments about the food being ?very cheap.? I'd have to say, at least for dinner, that was a bit over stated. Our total bill was $42.00, not expensive, but far from cheap. But their drinks are reasonable.\r \r Time and Service: We ate early for dinner, around 5 p.m. We had to wait 20 minutes which wasn't too long. When we left around 6:30, there was a huge line waiting. They offer 30 minute call ahead seating; I would suggest using that service if you're coming during the busy times. The food came out faster than we expected. We ordered our drinks and food together, and got our food faster than the drinks! We had a new waiter so I'll excuse some of the poor service. Our youngest spilled a drink and I was kindly given the rag to clean it up. He didn't check back with us very often, but it was pretty busy. I'd have to say the service was the low spot of the dinner.\r \r Kid Friendly: The kid meals were a good price and the amount of food in them was more than they could eat. They didn't have anything to color with, so there wasn't much from them to do.\r \r Overall: Good food, we may go again, but not a family favorite. Pros: Drinks, kids meals, & warm chips and salsa. Cons: Long wait during busy times, service, & average food. more
