About a year ago, I saw a commercial for something called Wonko's Toys and Games, and being the curious person that I am, I wanted to check it out. I was amazed at the items that ...

I would of gave them a 2 star, but rethinking my experiences made me only want a 1 star. This place is nice and the customers are amazing, but the owning staff are a bunch of non-...

Hard to Find Toys and Games? Find Them Here! 7/20/2007

I pop into Wonko's about once a week and I am never disappointed. They are constantly getting new inventory in and the selection boggles the mind. They have the standards like Star Wars and Transformers and Super Hero toys, as well as all the board games you can imagine, but they also have truly funky stuff like Reservoir Dogs and Buffy the Vampire Slayer action figures and tons of imported Japanese toys. They also are more than happy to take special requests and keep an eye out for just about anything your heart desires. I can't think of another place in town that can come close to Wonko's selection and cool, fun atmosphere. more

A Truly Magical Place 7/18/2007

Wonko's Toys and Games is truly one of Austin's gems. I've stopped by a handful of times and have always received the best service around. Don't expect to be bum-rushed as soon as you walk in the door (a practice I truly despise), but if you have any questions or special requests, they are always more than happy to help out. I have even called up there a couple of times with questions about something-or-another I was looking around for, and they were able to help me out immediately. I wouldn't consider myself an avid collector, but my girlfriend and I are pretty heavily into sci-fi, and Wonko's has *tons* of figurines that I haven't seen elsewhere (Dr. Who and Firefly come to mind). This review wouldn't be complete without mentioning the incredible newsletter that these folks put out. It is opt-in on a clipboard at the counter, and it is the only newsletter that I truly enjoy seeing poke it's head into my inbox. It always starts off with a couple pages of serialized fiction reminiscent of the late Douglas Adams. This is then followed by all the new products to hit the store since last "episode". Finally, it has a schedule of all upcoming gaming events held up at the shop. I don't know what all games are played up there, as I have only really gotten into D&D, and I haven't played that seriously for years. I assume however, that they will accommodate whatever people want to get together and play. If your inner child is in the mood for wandering around the most magical isles in town - Wonko's is the place to go. http://www.wonkos.com/ more
