WinCo Foods 1/27/2007

WinCo Foods Winco is the grocery store that we go to a couple of times each month to do our major grocery shopping. It is absolutely huge and has almost anything you can think of. We would go there more than once or twice a month but it’s a long drive from our house. So when we do go to WinCo, we try to plan going to Wal-Mart and a few other stores in that same general area. Our big monthly WinCo excursion is quite labor intensive since we usually spend a couple of hundred dollars at one time and we have to coordinate the schedules of five people, three of whom are children. It's a lot of work but WinCo has some good prices that make the trip well worth it. WinCo came to Bakersfield fairly recently, within the last year or two. Their prices were very cheap in the beginning, probably to get us to try them out and then their prices went up a little bit. On a lot of the foods that we buy though, WinCo is cheaper than the other grocery stores. WinCo has a huge produce section with a super selection and the produce seems quite fresh. They also have a large bulk foods section. You can buy either small or large amounts of many different bulk foods like beans, pastas, nuts, cereals, candy and much more. Their selection is quite impressive. We let the kids choose one thing and then buy them just one of it. They find that fun. The WinCo deli is also quite impressive. I really say that because I love their store brand of sliced turkey breast. It’s delicious and you can buy it in a single package or in a double pack. It makes an excellent sandwich. WinCo is so big that by the time I get less than half way around, I am ready to leave because I am so tired. Sometimes they have one of the little electric carts available for those of us who don't get around quite as well as others do, but that isn't always available since they only have two of them [that I've seen]. WinCo is open 24 hours so you can go grocery shopping at any time of the day or night but don’t bother to bring your credit cards because WinCo doesn’t accept them. You can pay using your debit card, cash or check only. If you are too tired to cook after grocery shopping, there is pizza for sale at the front of the store. It’s a separate business within WinCo and you can buy it already cooked and then take it home to eat it. more
