a thumb up and a thumb down 8/21/2005

Webster Hall gets some really cool bands like Evanescence and Dogs Die In Hot Cars. Unfortunately, it's also home to a bunch of crappy club music 5 nights a week. It's in a cool location down around 11th and 3rd. Personally I'd rather go see a movie at the Loews there instead of going clubbing. I think it'd be a better rock venue if it weren't for the disco ball and the weird seating on the outside of the floor. more

"Bowery Presents" at Webster Hall 8/16/2005

Webster Hall is usually a dance club, but they also have a fairly regular schedule of rock shows that are put on by the Bowery Ballroom/Mercury Lounge called "Bowery Presents." It's usually the band who played the Bowery a year or two ago and now need a bigger space. I'd say it's bigger than Irving Plaza and smaller than Roseland. It's more expensive than the Bowery and very weird because you have to enter through the same door as all the clubgoers. The dance club is open during the shows, you are just kept in a separate performance space. It has decent sign lines/high stage and a good lineup of bands. more
