Disappointing and out of touch 12/20/2004

Villa DeRoma is another South Philadelphia Italian Restaurant that is living in the past on borrowed time. The servers were inattentive to patrons needs and requests and were more concerned with gossiping with each other. The quality of the food was questionable, almost as if it was heated, not cooked. And it's 2004, so shouldn't they be accepting credit and debit cards and not forcing people to carry large amounts of cash around? This place needs a dose of reality and must get with the program if it wants to be competitive. Cons: , Inattentive Staff, Slow Service more

Italian at it's best 6/7/2004

I'm new to the Philadelphia area (by way of New York City) and I've had alot of Italian food. The lasagne at Villa Di Roma is off the charts in taste and aroma. Unbelievable is what you'll say after you've taken your first bite of just about anything from this authentic neighborhood hidden jewel. Pros: Great Food, Inexpensive, Family Owned more

Nowhere comes closer to home 3/4/2004

Eating at Villa di Roma is like eating and Grandma's. The food is delicious and authentic. The asparagus and broccoli rabe are to die for! Every dish is wonderful! The service is excellent, the waitresses are so friendly and so attentive. I can't believe it gets this good for such a small price! I reccomend this place to everyone! Pros: extremely reasonable, great food, great service more

Just open the can of Prego 10/19/2003

I found the food to be ok, but really nothing special. I'm not a great cook, but have made comprable or better versions at home. In addition, while the table service was good, we were ontime for our reservation and still waited an HOUR to be seated. This occurred after getting up to find an alternative. more

Food for the lazy 4/24/2003

You might as well break out a jug 'o wine and a box of dried spaghetti and spike your sauce & veggies with water and fresh garlic. You'll save a buck or two. To be fair though, the crowd is generally friendly and unpretentious. Pros: Somewhat cheap, Low key Cons: Unremarkable food more

the best italian food in the city 3/10/2003

villa di roma has the best italian food in the city. the waitresses will make you feel like you are at an aunt's house and they will make you feel guilty if you don't clean your plate! without a doubt the closest meal to sunday dinner at home. more

Fantastic Italian Place 12/18/2002

I love this place. Cool bar to get some drinks before the table is ready, deceptively large portions, and old-school ambiance makes for a great place to eat. more

NOT ITALIAN AT ALL 8/15/2002

Sorry, but this is too far away from Italy. No Italians work there and, as a result, you won't eat italian food. Pasta is not made of durum-wheat, sauces are far too watery, garlic bread is not real garlic bread and has parmesan cheese (?) on it , fish is low-quality and drowned in strange creams. You would never find anything like this in a truly italian restaurant. And let me tell you, there are quite a few in Philadelphia. Moreover service is poor, the menu is too wide to grant fresh ingredients and includes dishes that are not part of the italian tradition. Do go there if you like americanized-italian food. Do not go there if you seek the real thing. Not worth the 20 dollars. Pros: Inexpensive Cons: fakely italian more

The food was excellent, especially for the price. I highly recommend this place. more

Honey I Love This Place! 7/30/2002

Villa di Roma had home style Italian menu with the simple dining area. Linen tablecloths...paper napkins. Warm friendly service...Denny's style uniforms. I loved the food and everyone, including the bar tender was fabulous. The setting was not quite the romantic and rustic Italian feel we had hoped for. No problem though, as a vegetarian the menu was great and the prices were perfect. No tiramisu, but the cannolis couldn't be beat. Pros: open on Mon., nice area of town, full bar Cons: cheap decor, smoking more
