Weekend specials are awesome 5/18/2009

Even if you're not Indian, as long as you adventorous and can stand spicier fares, I really recommend this place. Reasonable prices, and exotic stuff you cannot find in other Indian restaurants. On weekends, the cook even more authentic stuff that few non-Indians have tasted! Pros: Weekend specials Cons: Closed Mondays more

The Berkeley Bowl of Indian Chaat 2/18/2009

Great Indian chaat, more variety than I've seen anywhere in the bay area. It's always busy and crowded here. Don't come if you're looking to sit down and be served. Pros: Yummy food Cons: Busy and crowded (but isn't that usually a good thing?) more

AMAZING. Enough said. 5/16/2008

Vik's Chaat Corner is one of those hole-in-the-wall cult restaurants that every serious foodie thanks God for after trying. Yes, it is in a warehouse and often times the line is out the door..and yes, you are lucky to get a table- and if you do, you are lucky to get a clean table...but when you see people eating plates of Indian food on the street curb outside the restaurant because they couldn't find a seat, much less a surface, to eat on- you know the food must be good.\r Vik's IS that good- every bite triggers an amazing rush of flavors and senses that teleport you to a new region of tastiness. This food is addictive and you WILL be back for more- even if you have to stand in a long line and eat on the street curb.\r Pros: Amazing Food- worth the trip Cons: Long lines at times, hard to find seating, cleanliness fo tables more

Best in town 9/29/2007

I don't want to hear complaints of the food being fried or that it's bad fast food. C'mon. For $8 you get tasty food, you get full and you get to try stuff that isn't offered at most other Indian restaurants. When you're only shelling out $8 why would anyone even mention the words ""ambiance"" or ""bad service."" This is food made fast...what do you expect. And yes, this competes with southbay locations, without having to go to the ugly Southbay. Get a life people...this is good stuff. I'm Indian and I know what's good. Pros: cheap, good quality, fast, unique Cons: long lines more

pathetic indian fast food served by greedy people 3/8/2006

sub-standard indian fast food that may appear to be a good deal on the surface, shares same chick-peas masala for a number of dishes and downright rude customer service. much better indian food is available in southbay where there is intense competition which brings out better tasting indian food. more

Absolutely the most excellent chaat anywhere. 2/21/2006

Vik's is absolutely my favorite place to eat in the bay area. The food is so wonderful, just walking in the door makes me happy. Especially recommended in the Masala Dosa, although be aware that the weekend menu is much more extensive than the weekday menu. There are currys and special items that are not available during the week. Pros: Great food, Friendly staff, lots of seating Cons: Hours, weekday menu more

Different Food for a Different Day 5/7/2005

Simply the Best chaat and good food I've ever had. The only problem is that it closes at 6. But otherwise, simply amazing! Great for Lunchtime Pros: VARIETY!, Inexpensive Cons: Store Hours, Closed on Mondays more

delicious 3/11/2004

Piping hot chaat, unique Indian sweets, and an Indian market right next door. Extensive menu--prompt service. Best Indian food I've found yet at the best price. Wonderful!! Pros: masala dosas!!, sweets, samosas more

No big deal 9/22/2003

Lots of fried food, served in a warehouse by rude people. I think people go here cause they think it's a hip place to eat because the line are long, but the food is below par. Lots of better places for indian food. Pros: price, ample parking Cons: food, service, lines more

Chutney Squishy Please 8/3/2003

The defnition of ""Dive"" is personified at Vik's. The interior is intimidating, but the food is fantastic!!!! You can't find better chaat in the bay area. Their specialty is Dosa on the weekends. Don't mind the lines nor the Delhi belly. Pros: Samosas, Lamb roti Cons: Wait more

$.02 2/13/2003

Vik's is a pay and pick-up style diner. I have been here several times and I think the food is fantastic. They only have a couple different lunch selections each day and they vary. So, if you are a picky eater this place probably isn't for you. If you are more adventurous I would highly suggest you try Vik's. The prices are low and parking is plentifull in the adjacent lot. Vik's is a little out of the way in that there aren't many shops immediately nearby. Great value and great food. Pros: Excellent food, Parking, Value Cons: A little isolated, Seating is limited more

I eat it every day 12/18/2002

I seriously eat lunch from this place 2-4 times a week. I recommend ""to go"", since the atmosphere of the warehouse is not great, and seating scarce in peak times. But the food is cheap and of consistantly tasty quality. Pros: price, good food Cons: atmposphere, parking, crowded more

Cheap and fabulous food 10/1/2002

The warehouse-like ambiance and minimal service is part of the experience here, so don't go if you're looking for a nice, quiet meal. It's loud and a bit chaotic. But the food...we stuffed ourselves with three different dishes for about $12. You can't beat that, and everything was fresh, authentic and delicious. Next time I'm in town, I'm going back! Pros: cheap, quick, parking lot Cons: crowded more

Yummy Funk in Bizerkeley 8/25/2002

Good for the patient and adveturesome. Don't go expecting great ambiance. Go for the food. Pros: Cheap, Tasty, Funky Cons: Horrible Lines, Poor Order Execution more

Chaat Cafe is better 8/16/2002

Vik's used to be okay when they had no competition. If you want good, relatively cheap Indian food go to chaat cafe. I think the cafe is pretty much the best Indian restaurant in the bay area right now. There some other good ones but they are way to pricey and the other cheap ones can't compare. Pros: cheap, lots of parking Cons: greasy, dirty, service more

A hot spot for hot chaat 7/30/2002

In a word, fantastic! The ambience does leave something to be desired, but they more than make up for it in quality, speed, and price. The food is superb - try a daily special and a side...it'll fill you up, and it won't even dent your wallet! Oh, and there's even a fairly large parking lot, if you can believe it! Pros: Free lot parking!!!!!, Minimal wait, Extremely reasonable Cons: Cafeteria ambience, Crowded at peak hours, Plastic dinnerware more

good cheap food 6/26/2002

the food is awesome. the place is too crowded on the weekends. take a day off work and go around 2 on a weekday. Pros: good food, cheap Cons: crowded more

What Ambience?! 6/12/2002

Went to Vik's after reading the reviews here. It was a Mistake. Its setup like a warehouse (1/2 is a grocery store ..1/2 a food joint). That in itself would have been ok, except the food that I had did not taste that good either. Very dissapointed. Cons: crowded more
