What Happened to the Medical OATH? 7/11/2011

This is the absolute WORST place to go if you are really sick. If you don't have insurance and are paying out of pocket they want NOTHING to do with you, in fact, you are SHUNNED. The Nurse wouldn't even allow the visit to the Doctor, was told ""You don't need a nephrologist "" and the only thing she looked at was the blood work! NOT the reports from the many hospital visits, the medical history, the scans or xrays.................. simply blood work! Since when do Nurses decide who can and can't see a doctor if the patient is willing to pay? CTKA of Central Texas should be ASHAMED. Good Luck to anyone wasting their time with this Poor Medical Facility.... and make sure you have every last cent of the fee if you are short $20.00 you might as well die, the $20.00 is worth more to them than your life! more

Central Texas Kidney Associates 1/31/2011

I was born with a genetic kidney disease and began having problems in my early 20's. I was lucky enough to have found an excellent Dr. my first try. He had his own practice. In my mid 30's I had to start dialysis, and he told me he would be with me through my transplant, but....his health began to fail and quit practicing and I was referred to Dr. Judith Betts at CTKA. I was so dissapointed because I just KNEW I was not going to receive the personal attention I got from him. Boy was I WRONG!!! Dr. Betts is excellent. I have since received my transplant and she still follows up with me regularly. She reviews everything with you from your prior appointments, compares labwork with you and you certainly feel that she is giving it her all to keep you on a healthy path. No, trying to get out of the door before she has even made it in all the way like a lot of the Dr.s I have experienced with my husband. And then there is her nurse Dana.......what can I say? I love her!.......Very responsive and nice! Would reccomend them to anyone. Your Health Care cannot get any better that this! more

CTKA 2/1/2010

I have had Kidney problems siince I was 13 and followed by multi doctors. I am 57 now. I went to CTKA after being followed by ADC. What a difference in care that made. I see Dr Judith Betts, one of the outstanding doctors at the Clinic. She is very professional, Very Knowledgeable (one of the smartest), very kind. She is one of the Care givers that you can actual ask questions and get a return answer that understandable, if you know what I mean. There is not actually not enough space to write enough about Dr Betts to describe her attributes. The nurses staff are also some of the best I have seen. Always going the extra way to help you, answering questions and giving care. I highly recommend if you need Kidney Health care you get set up with the CTKA and Dr Betts. Pros: Best Kidnwy Health Care more

Dr. Moritz Austin's Outstanding Nephrologist 6/5/2007

I first met Dr Moritz while I was in Kidney failure and in a coma due to another problem. Soon after I awoke, I realized that the dedication of this man whom I had never met before had pulled me and my 26 year transplanted kidney out from the pit and back into the rather abnormal life of a kidney transplant patient. My 6 year old daughter now has her daddy and I get to see her grow up. Dr. Moritz is as kind as he needs to be. Remember, sometimes what we may see as a gruff side to anyone is just their own concern not well hidden. Would you rather a doctor be a complete zombie or a kissie feelie wimp, crying on your shoulder as you cry on his?\r \r After 3 1/2 years of dialysis and almost 29 years with a kidney transplant, I have only had 5 Nephrologists in Austin and Houston. 1 was a putz. 2 were great. 2 were outstanding. One of those is Dr. Moritz! If I insist on eating a bucket of wings during the superbowl, he just rolls his eyes and reminds me to take my diuretics and potassium, and I really don't eat the whole box just because I know that it's bad for my Renal Diet and Dr. Moritz will have to fix any damage I've done to myself. Once we go under a doctor's care for something like kidney disease we become their project and keeping us alive and as healthy as possible under falilig systems is the end goal of that project.\r \r If we act like little children and disobey the Doctor's Orders ther we will be treated like children and be chastised somewhat. Pros: Very up to date with latest treatement and medication options. more

Best Republican Biker Nephrologist on 45th St. 4/11/2007

Dr Moritz has been my nephrologist for almost ten years now and I think he is really a bright doctor who keeps up with the research in his area. He does have some quirks and a certain flair of arrogance that might be perceived by some patients as ""terrible bedside manner"". He's a motorcycle dude so I don't expect him to be emotional or sympathetic; in fact when I was first diagnosed with PKD, he said, ""You got a tiger by the tail, boy"". However, I have always found that he is willing to take longer than the usual doctor's 10 minutes when meeting in his office (in fact many times he has explained and discussed my condition for over 30 minutes). He is an expert a juggling all the meds a kidney patient must take and he is up to date on the new meds. He really knows kidneys. And, finally, he has pulled together a multi-cultural group of nephrologists who all seem to know what they're doing. I give him a ""thumbs up""! Pros: Brains, Multi-cultural docs, knowledge of meds, Cons: Abrasive, arrogant, Republican more

smart, personable in the office 10/19/2006

I've only seen him for check-ups in the office. He's very smart, personable and patiently listens and explains. more

Poor bedside manner 6/10/2006

I was hospitalized for kidney problems for several weeks, and Dr. Moritz was my doctor. His bedside manner was appalling. He was often grumpy, humorless and seemed distracted -- as if he would rather be somewhere else. When I expressed concern about discomfort during a procedure, he actually scoffed at me, telling me ""I did this procedure on a 28-year-old woman yesterday and SHE didn't need any pain medication."" He seems to be well-educated and fully qualified, but Dr. Moritz was probably the worst doctor I have ever dealt with, in terms of attitude and bedside manner. Which, when dealing with a doctor, can be just as important. Pros: Seems qualified and knowledgable. Cons: Extremely poor bedside manner and attitude. more
