This is such a great old school Italian grocery. There's such a widespread selection of foods that are hard to find elsewhere. Of course, the home made pasta is excellent! Ther...

Worst Service Experience EVER 8/17/2010

My friend & I decided to go to Federal Hill to hear some music, drink some wine and have an appetizer. We've loved Venda Ravioli and they have restaurant service under the name Constantino's throughout the plaza. I get the host's attention and ask for a table for two, which he promptly takes us to. Nice table along planted fencing, tablecloth, etc. We are asked if we want water (tap or otherwise) and we get that, along with some wine. A young busboy brings us some bread & olive oil. The waiter comes to take our order - we are sharing an appetizer of calamari. Within moments, the host runs over to say that he didn't know we were having just appetizers and that usually people like us sit over there, but he isn't going to make us move. From there on out, over the next 45 minutes, we are harrassed by waiter and bus staff- are you finished yet (our plate is half full), are you finished yet (plate is a little less than half full), are you finsihed yet (still food on the plate)... roughly every 5 minutes. Finally, annoyed by being interrupted so often, we say yes, we are finished. Plate is whisked away and instantaneously, our check is on the table. Mind you, there are empty tables near us so it's not like we're taking up space (plus we were at a table for two, not taking up a huge table that some other party couldn't sit down at). We might have stayed and ordered multiple appetizers/wine/dessert, but certainly not after being treated like this. We will NEVER return and plan to tell lots of people about this so they don't experience the same RUDE behavior. more

Great Food, Terrible Service 8/15/2007

My wife and I have been shopping at Venda at least once a week for the last 4 years. We love the food, and a couple of the employees are nice but overall the service is awful. Many times while waiting in line we are overlooked by the employees. Several other customers will walk up ahead of us and get served immediately when the staff knows we've been waiting. Often before we are done ordering they will move on to another customer. Some of the employees look at us like we are not good enough (I guess the $300- $400 we spend every week is not good enough for them) Several times while waiting to be served-with no one else waiting in line-they will see that i'm there and just continue working on something else-like the customers don't matter (cause they make so much money without having customers). Pros: Food Cons: Service more

treated like I was a lazy busboy... while buying food! 6/23/2007

won't be returning to venda ravioli after horrible experience in which the chef interrupted our order to yell at our server right in front of us, and then tell us ""too bad"" when we complained. It is too bad, the food was pretty good!\r \r -100 stars for making us feel like jerks for spending our money there. they obviously don't need it, so we'll go somewhere else next time. Pros: great food Cons: treated amazingly poorly by cook who should have stayed in the back. more
