Great vet hospital 2/27/2013

I want to thank Dr. Lee for caring for my border collie Sam who had elbow surgery for an ulcer in Dec. Sam had the same surgery at a local vet in June but the surgery didn't work. So far Sam's elbow is healing nicely. We've been to Northwood four times now and it's a 3 hour trip from where I live. If I have questions, Dr. Lee will return my call promptly and the staff is very helpful and nice in addition. When I first went there I was given an estimate but it turned out to be quite a bit less than that quote. I'd recommend them to anyone.\r Pam B more

Thank You Dr. Lee 10/19/2011

I want to thank Dr. Lee for saving my Chihuahuas life! Spinal surgery in the neck area could not have been performed by a regular clinic vet. Yes the front desk ladies are cold hearted and snobbish and nearly made me turn around and walk out but I had nowhere else to take my dog. I am happy I made the right choice to look past the coldheartedness and concentrate on what was most important. Talking to Dr. Lee was amazing and in my heart I knew he was the man my dog needed if he was going to live. My dog Cheech is feeling better than he ever has just as Dr. Lee promised he would. You are the man I will always come to during any emergency I have with my dogs. Thank You so much. You are a good man. We need more like you these days. more

Thieves 5/18/2011

I was very dismayed with the service I received at Northwood. Our normal vet recommended we go there to have a biopsy done of a tumor that she could not get to. Upon arriving for our appointment, the vet we were schedule to see said it was premature for him to be involved and wanted us to see his colleague. They performed the same set of tests our vet did (she faxed them all the results) - then called me to say they needed to do a biopsy. That was the entire reason I drove an hour to see them. Then, when I go to pay the bill, they mix up my paperwork. I paid, but they called 20 minutes later asking me to come back because I paid the wrong bill and my balance was actually twice that amount. I will not go back there - I will not recommend them and when my biopsy results come in, they are not to call me, but my vet. Basically I feel screwed out of $1000 to confirm that my dog has cancer and only 6 months to live. more

Murphy Breiva to see Dr. Stauffer. 4/28/2011

Yesterday 4/26, I brought my 23month old male Labrador Retriever up for a consult with Dr. Stauffer. What a wonderful man!!! Thank you for taking the time to explain my options regarding Murphy's knee issues. \r Everyone was wonderful, pleasent, patient and very kind to Murphy and his Mom (me). Murphy was alittle nervous going in because he had already been thru 2 knee surgeries at a different vet's office prior to going there. I drove about 80 miles one way and would do it again in a heartbeat. Thanks again, Cindy B. more

Over the phone (lack of) care! 2/27/2011

My sister called this hospital when her miniture Yorkie was lethargic and was having a seizure. They refused to even see the very young puppy unless she paid a $96 office fee and diagnosed her OVER THE PHONE as a case of parvo. Since my sister did not have the funds readily available (nor was she able to borrow the money, as they suggested) they said that they would EUTHANIZE her for FREE! Wow! All of this over the phone! They showed zero compassion for a puppy barely 11 weeks old who was having seizures. We googled the symptoms along with the breed and found that very small Yorkies who have little muscle mass are prone to hypoglycemia, which produces symptoms EXACTLY LIKE SHE DESCRIBED TO THIS HOSPITAL! They never once suggested that it could be anything other than parvo! We found that a change in the puppy's diet (like my sister did the day before) could send her into just such a state. So, she gave her Pedialyte and she perked back up almost immediately, walked without falling over more

Best place for elderly dogs 2/24/2011

I have given up trying to find a good vet in Muncie for my elderly dogs. I have taken my dogs to Northwood as emergencies at night and the day people did a good job continuing their care, so I decided to switch.\r \r They have a special cancer screening package that's a good deal, and even though some of their prices are higher than other places in the long run they're cheaper because they are better. They can do a lot there on the spot instead of sending you to a specialist and they know what they are doing. My dog had an EKG for $30 during her exam.\r \r I have always had positive experiences with the vets and the front desk staff. There have been times that I had to wait a long time for an emergency because some other pets were sicker than mine. It kind of depends on how bad of a night they're having whether they seem rushed or not. more

HORRIBLE 9/21/2010

One of the most expensive horribly un-kind places on earth. I hope non of these people have pets because if they do then they should have them taken away. They are un-kind and not professional at all. Rude and condesending when I ask questions is the worst part and unexpected costs are a MUST with this place. more

AWESOME! 2/11/2010

I have to diagree with the bad review on Dr. Landwerlen at VCA Northwood. He is a VERY good vet that takes wonderful care of animals. He is insistant upon things that he knows are right. Instead of taking a cheaper, one-size-fits-all and hope for the best approach to treating animals like a lot of vets do, he treats them very specifically. He was probably pushy because time was of the essence. I have seen several other vets at this hospital too - both in a routine setting and in emergency settings - and I have always been VERY pleased with them. VCA is definitely more expensive, but that is because they are AAHA certified (American Animal Hospital Association) and because they have an excellent team. I personally will not take my animals to a facility that is not AAHA certified, and VCA is the only one that is certified for miles around Anderson. I have 3 dogs - a Jack Russell Terrier, a Rat Terrier that is handicapped, and a Chihuahua. They also all have Vet Insurance with PetsBest th more

VCA Northwood Animal Hospital is nightmare 10/10/2009

I was very unhappy with their services. It was all about the money. They knew my dog was not going to make it but still kept on throwing prices at me as I was crying me eyes out. Never offered me a tissue. I took him there because I heard how wonderful they are, hoping for a good experience, and also be able to do more for him. I had the money to do what they were talking about doing but is was not in the best interest for my dying dog who was not going to make it . They also charged me for things that were not discussed in price. I will not encourage anybody to go there. After my horrible experience there. He kept saying what is the value of life he really was saying how much more can I get out of these people who are heart broken over losing their family member. And last of all things who ever you are you put my dog in a box that was way to small for him when I took him home my children wanted to say goodbye and we were appalled to see him crunched up with his tongue hanging out of more

Exceptional animal care and compassion, always 8/5/2008

Since moving to Anderson 6 years ago, our pets have always been treated and cared for by the doctors and staff at Northwood. The quality of care, concern and communication is superb. On one occasion, when our beloved Sammy was too ill with kidney failure allow any hope for a recovery, we elected to have her 'put to sleep'. The compassion displayed to us and Sammy as she drifted off in our arms was unforgettable.\r It is reassuring that such a fine veterinary group is just minutes away. They're the best. more

Best service, best care, best vets In town!!! 4/27/2007

This is the number one place to take your pets! The staff here are very friendly, and know what they're talking about (unlike some other places in town) The skill of the surgeons here is amazing! They will do EVERYTHING they can to save and heal your pet! People from all over the state are sent here for treatment because most other vets recognize the superior quality of care given here!\r As far as attitude, knowledge, and bedside mannor go, the vets here are world class.\r \r Dr. DeHass is especially kind and good, we loved taking our dog to her! more
