Went there with my dog and they wanted me to take out a credit card for my dog and that it would cost several thousand dollars +++, .My dog I found out afterward had a hematoma in her mouth From else where and another person came in and told me a few thousand +++extra more exspense But said different story to me and we could poss, save her ,that she had a immune disease and would die She was weak from losing bood and we ended up putting our Baby down. I heard to late from another friend in which they milked her heavy and she said I was lucky to out what I was charged But at a heavy cost of my Baby life, They don't care about animals only what they can charge and get from you ,They start attacking with High number figures . They are nothing but LIARS !If your pet needs help go else where. They should be ashame and Remember Karma bites back. more

Avoid! Avoid! Avoid! I doubted if their doctors are real. They mis-diagnosed my cat with bladder stone, and asked for up to $30,000 of surgical fee. We asked for alternative precedure, they used catheter, but did it wrong (catheter removed right after bladder emptied without attached for 2 days), and perscribed a medicine that should be avoid for animals with kidney function problem (my cat had 10 times kidney level than normal). All they care is money and the way to avoid lawsuit and liability with the paper they made people sign. I don't understand why almost all negitive posts on Yelps were filtered, since we were misleaded by those positive posts. Save yourself from aggravation, send your pet to MSPCA Angell instead! Gladly we did after leaving VCA, and received right information from right doctors with right procedures and fair costs. Do save yourself and your love ones, don't go to VCA Weymouth! more

Today Veterinary medicine is a money oriented business where services command prices as high as a human physician but without nearly the malpractice costs and further....exploiting the animal/human bond. I took my sick pet here where I've been a client for 20 years. While my pet was being X-rayed the Dr. said ""are you going to wait or go on an errand or..."" I said ""possibly"", she immediately put a form down in front of me and said ""You need to leave a 65% deposit if you leave the building"" I was very insulted and asked ""why"" she said it was done with all the clients. These people start 'collections' before the services are even rendered! I had this pet in 6 months earlier and spent $500, but that's 50 cents in veterinary dollars. I went to the reception area and asked waiting pet owners if they were informed of this and to their dismay they all said a resounding ""No"". After what Dr. Johnson did to me she might as well have 'one'.. more

This place is AWFUL...Every doctor and tech is just AWFUL with their communication skills..but are great asking you for money. \r \r Two examples:\r Cat 1 :\r Going to pay $500 to have my cat's teeth clean..I called the office to see what time the vet would be in to make an appt. I was told 2pm..I call back at 2pm and guess what, the Vet is now out for the next 3 weeks..to call back then. Good thing my cat wasn't dying. Left a message for the vet to call back when they return to make an appt...never heard back.\r \r Cat 2 : After paying over $800 for blood work, scan, etc, etc. we were going to move forward with a biopsy and the Vet said he call the next day to set up an appt. After NOT hearing from the Vet, I called many times to ask when I could make the appt...never received a reply. 2 WHOLE weeks later, I get a reply from the vet that someone will call to make the appt with me...3 days later, no call. I just took my cat someplace else where they actually 'value your time' and will call you back. \r \r So in short..They never follow up with phone calls because they don't know how to use a phone or listen to voice mail?!?!?! Sorry if I am paying over $1000 for one cat and $600 for another cat, I want you to reply to my damn phone calls. DON'T GO HERE! more

Great Hospital! 4/26/2012

I came here because my dog was sick with cancer. Dr. Fitzpatrick performed superior treatment. I have been to other Oncologists a few years ago at another hospital and they weren't as thorough, knowledgeable or compassionate. I found out that VCA South Shore added a new Oncologist over a year ago. I am glad that I saw Dr. Fitzpatrick. He was worth the money & the drive especially since the economy is so bad. He truly cared about my dog and knew what he was doing! Dr. Fitzpatrick espouses professionalism, superior knowledge and an excellent bedside manner (which is unusual for doctors). I can't thank him enough!!! I have told my friends and colleagues about this doctor. I just got a puppy and will go back to VCA South Shore Animal Hospital because of my positive experience with this doctor. I hate to leave the old hospital that I was going to for over 20 years but they we not nearly as nice, caring and knowledgeable as Dr. Fitzpatrick. Thank you for such wonderful care! more

Don't EVER bring your pet here! 12/19/2010

Don't ever bring your pet here unless you are willing to sign over your first born as a ""promissory"". My dog was seen by the VCA after he was tagged by a car. No broken bones or any cuts/scrapes. The bill was outrageous and we didn't have the money to pay for it. The person at the desk actually asked my husband if he could call anyone to ask to borrow money or their credit card. Who does that? Then, they removed the charge for the pain meds and didn't send him home with any meds either!! Yeah, they put the animals first? BS they put their greedy pockets first. Lastly, they made my husband sign a promissory note that he would pay the amount not covered by THEIR credit card. Are you kidding me? \r DO NOT bring your pets here unless you have money to put up front because that is all they care about. more

Stay away from VCA Weymouth at all costs!!! 7/7/2010

THIS PLACE IS A TOTAL RIP-OFF; THEIR PRIMARY FOCUS IS GETTING AS MUCH MONEY AS POSSIBLE FROM YOU WHILE YOU'RE AT YOUR MOST VULNERABLE. I spent $2,000 on tests and didn't even get a diagnosis-they just wanted to do more tests (an get more money of course!) My dog presented with classic symptoms of FCE (fibrocartilaginous embolism) which is fairly common and they didn't even mention it as a possibility! Now I know, of course, that FCE animals almost recover on their own which means NO MORE MONEY FOR THIS EXTREMELY UNETHICAL VETERINARY PRACTICE. Cons: Unethical is an understatement more

Quality&Compassion at So.Weymouth VCA 3/26/2010

So. Weymouth VCA has saved my dog's life TWICE in the past 6 years during an emergency visit and surgery to remove a mast cell tumor. Dr. Walker, Dr. Perry and Dr. Diamond are all compassionate and fabulous and so are all the techs. I have moved 40 miles away, but I still take my dog here. They are worth it. more

Stay away from the VCA! 10/27/2009

A waste of time and money. My cat had nothing but a UTI and they tried to diagnose him with a blockage and quote me at $2,300. The bare minimum cost me $230 and they told me little and did little. I later took him to a local vet and she explained ten times more and couldn't believe they suggested surgery before altering his diet and doing a urinalysis. For LESS money she did a lot more including antibiotics, new food and a supplement for his bladder. I compare the invoices and the VCA charged DOUBLE what this vet did. I will never make the same mistake again. Pros: Emergency Service Cons: Overpriced and tried to con me more

GET YOUR PET TO DECENT VET 10/25/2009

Go to any ""vca"" you like, notice how almost all the ""good"" reviews are written by the name ""anonymous"" sounds fishy. They take as much money from you as possible while you are concerned with one thing, you beloved animals well being. If at all possible, try to find a different place that is open late;I know there are not that many. They tried to hit the poor older woman up for 1000.00 on the spot, she did not have the money. They had the frekin nerve to ""negotiate"" the price down with her. I REALLY felt like crying for this poor senior citizen. SHAME OF YOU people. Her poor cat was obviously all she had left in the world. I understand that vets are in business to make money, but not to make vulnerable people who can not afford it, upset in front of other people. If I had the money, I would have paid this poor woman's bill. Its not even a damn bill, it is an ESTIMATE of how much the bill ""might"" be, and they will NOT let your animal stay the night unless you pay 75% of that. This poor soul looked like she could not afford .75. I have been to many vets, and they always, always, work with a pet owner to help to solve a financial problem. NOT tear at someones heart. Once again, Shame on you v.c.a. You are a gigantic corporation, with places all over the country. I hope you sleep well at night, but I assume you do as long as your share holders get their lovely dividends each month, and you make a profit off of someones grief. you don't ""deserve"" ONE star, I wish they had 1/2 stars, even that would be too high a grad for you crooks. Pros: ARE YOU KIDDING ME?? Cons: I DON'T HAVE THAT LONG more

Stay Away if you can 10/22/2009

This place is a rip off. First of all, you initial a peace of paper which gives them the right to treat your pet and take full advantage of someones emotions at the time. Then you wait and wait and they run all kinds of unnecessary tests. THEN..a ""tech"" comes out with an estimate as if you were buying a car in the show room. If your pet has to stay, you have to cough up 75% of an (estimated) invoice. Watch out for that phrase, ""estimated"" I picked up my cat at my vets and he was having problems breathing so they recommended that I bring him to this factory called the V.C.A. so that he could be put on oxygen for the night. I brought the report and all necessary information with me. They ran the same damn tests over again. My cat was there for 15 hours, and they charged me 649.39 (as if they could not knock off the .39) They even had to nerve to invoice me for $5.00 to give my cat meds. Meds that I brought with me. I wish there were another place in the area to take a pet in need of emergency care than this high volume, fast paced assembly line. The only people I know that take advantage of someones emotions as good as these people, are funeral directors selling you unnecessary items. STAY AWAY, if you can. Pros: great place to be ripped off Cons: this place is a money making factory more

Our cat almost died because of their incompetency 9/1/2009

Our cat ate a poisonous plant and I rushed him immediately to a VCA in Hanover. Instead of flushing out his kidney and putting him on IV, they ran bloodwork and did an ultra-sound! They told my husband and I that he was anemic and they were worried he had LEUKEMIA! They released him and he kept failing. Six days later we rushed him to the South Shore VCA when he stopped eating and they force fed him. They ran even more tests and told us it might be Pancreatitis). He wasn't recovering so we brought him home to do the feedings ourselves. He wasn't responding so I told my husband that unless a miracle happened we'd have to put him down. We made the appointment for doing this. They took out the feeding tube and brought him to us. He was perky and alert. The doctor still thought we wanted to put him down! We brought him home and hand fed him. Two days later - we had out cat back! The only call from one of the 29 year old vets was to chastise us on giving Buddha a lick of pizza crust (his favorite). They almost destroyed our cat and they're reprimanding me?! (I already mentioned to the doctor before bringing him home was that he liked pizza crusts!!) DON'T bring your animal to either the Hanover VCA or the Weymouth VCA... they run unnecessary tests and fleece you for thousands of dollars. They're rude, they don't call back within reasonable times (like 8 hours after you call!) I hate this place. It's scary there's no other emergency service around the south shore. The VCA is a corporate machine that uses 20 something ""doctors"" to just pick your pockets. HORRIBLE!! Our poor cat, and us, suffered so badly and he's having nightmares for the first time in his 6 short years!! (I wish I could give them ""negative stars""!) Pros: HORRIBLE - Inexperienced vets just our of school!!! Cons: Inexperienced, arrogant and charge A LOT of money!! more

Vca South Shore Animal Hosp is AWFUL!!!!! 6/16/2009

Warning to all pet owners...DO NOT BRING YOUR PET TO VCA SOUTH SHORE ANIMAL HOSPITAL! Our family dog, whom had had a terrible beginning of his life (he was abused- we had rescued him) developed an infection. When we brought him to VCA SSAH as an emergency visit @ 12am, they prescribed him antibiotics and gave him meds for the pain, sent us home after paying $400. The next day, his entire head swelled to the size of a large beach ball. He then went back to the hospital. They tested his blood, couldnt identify the infection and immediately demanded payment of $1300!!! During his hospital stay, they called multiple times that day saying he was getting better but they would like to keep him one more night. All of a sudden, we receive another call telling us his progress is at a stand still but they can def get him better. They then continued with, "we can fix him, but not without payment". After shelling out nearly $2000 in 2 days, we assumed that would be good-will enough that the more

Wrong Diagnosis Leg Amputation 4/17/2009

The VCA in Weymouth said our dog had signs of cancer after several tests. In 5 days we were at their ER 4 times and each time, we left with an open diagnosis and more pills (pain killers, anitbiotics, etc.) By the fifth day our dog could no longer walk. After several tests and seing 8 doctors there, we were told that his leg will most likely have to be amputated. Once the leg was removed, they discovered that he did not have cancer at all. Instead it was a massive baterial infection that could have been treated with a very strong antibiotic. We are devasted by what they have done to our dog. We sought a second opinion who confirmed the leg should have never been removed. NEVER EVER go to the VCA in Weymouth. They agreed to pay for 1/2 the operation a sum of $1300 but had they audacity to charge us still $3500! We have filed complaints against their vet lic. and found they had previous complaints. Cons: Unprofessional Incompetant doctors w/too many clients more

A Veterinary Hospital with Everything I Need! 12/17/2008

I have been bringing my two dogs to this hospital for 8 years and I have no complaints about them. It is a larger facility, but they are capable of handling and have handled everything my dogs have every needed! They have are open 24 hours with doctors there, they have specialists, and the staff is amazing at what they do. I once was there for visiting when my dog was in the hospital for a very extensive treatment (very scary), and I couldn't believe how much the nurses took care of the dogs and cats while I was there. I spent a lot of money for that treatment, but I have to say IT WAS WELL WORTH IT knowing (from seeing) the kind of care that my dog was getting then. I guess that is why pet insurance is available. I feel like the doctors and staff truly care about the wellbeing of the pets that get seen there. I remember getting a statement (from insurance) on my husband's treatment and surgery for when he had to have his appendix removed and it was well over $15,000 for 2 days in a local hospital and surgery after sitting in agonizing pain in the emergency waiting room for 10 hours before he was even seen by a doctor. My dog spent a week in this animal hospital being cared for by a team of doctors which included specialists as well as the caring staff and I only had to pay about $3500 for care that was 10 times better than the care that my husband received in a human hospital. I wish he could've been treated at this animal hospital! I received phone calls after my dog went home just to see how he was doing and if I had any questions. My dog is back to his normal self now and I have this animal hospital to thank - he could've died if they didn't diagnose him! I wouldn't take any of my animals anywhere else! I have been to other facilities and I have heard from friends of mine some stories that shock me about the way they were treated elsewhere and I can't encourage them and enough to go here instead. They have convenient appointment times and walkins all the time! Pros: available 24 hours, specialists, caring, convenient location Cons: ?? more

A Horrible Joke 9/23/2008

My cat needed a refill for her glaucoma eye drops before we dropped her off at a boarding facility. The first woman I spoke to at 10AM said that she'd looked up her account, everything was all set, and she just needed to fax over the refill. Well, it wasn't that simple. It ended up turning into a 5-hour ordeal with multiple calls to our pharmacy and to the VCA, as well as multiple assurances that the refill would be faxed to the pharmacy within minutes. \r \r Finally, at 3PM, someone from the VCA (who didn't leave her name) left a message saying that my cat's prescription could not be refilled because Massachusetts state law says that a cat must be seen at least within a year by the doctor, before obtaining a refill. Wow, they could have just told me that at 10AM.\r \r If you want a caring vet with a great staff, go to the Marshfield Animal Hospital. They are expanding their facility, so they won't have to refer out for more specialized problems like my cat's. I've had my cats seen more

Very Helpful 7/20/2008

I had a different experience with SSAH that happened a few months ago.\r \r We had a very large dog (Shepherd) we usually took to another place for routine stuff. He started to go down hill over a couple of weeks and wasn't snapping out of it. We made an appointment at our regular vet but our guy started to go downhill at lightning speed so we ended up calling South Shore late one night. This was the night before our appointment with our regular place.\r \r They were not only really helpful and caring but very up front when it came to the prices too. Perhaps they were told to be more up front with customers.\r \r Nonetheless, we brought our big fella there and they did their best, the Dr. came out several times asking for permission to do each and every procedure, she was also knowledgeable regarding the estimated cost. I'm not saying they are cheap mind you. We got to the part where X-rays were needed and we were quoted $400 to $500 and this would not fix him, just give them a better more

duplication of services charge 6/2/2008

Referred to VCA for a neurological consult for injured dog, brought my own x-rays, and my vet called ahead with exam results and I was charged over $500 (consult was $160) for duplication of services for full triage which I had received 1/2 hour earliar at primary vet. Took advantage of me at a difficult time. Pros: desk staff friendly Cons: duplication of services more
