I am disgusted by the service at this place, I can't even call it a hospital. \r \r I have lived in miami beach for 10 years and have only used them as a last resort., as they already have an awful reputation. However, Friday, July 11, 2014 the evening of my birthday, my 12 year old schnauzer mix, Gaston, had what I suspect was a stroke. Being they are the closest hospital, we rushed from my home on the venetian causeway without even grabbing our telephones and arrived at 9:03 pm. He was in bad shape and we begged for help. Their website says they are open until 10:00 but they insisted the doctor was gone and they wouldn't assist us. The technicians were so uninterested in helping that it took them 10 minutes to come up with an alternative hospital. \r \r Gaston died on route to the other hospital. \r \r This is the second dog in my ""family"" to die there or due to their negligence. I think they should be shut down. more

I have used a number of clinics in this chain of S. Florida animal clinics (Alton Road, West Avenue, Aventura, South Miami, Brickell Village). They are run by a Dr. Rappaport who seems more businessman than active veterinarian. They are clean, modern and well-equipped and run as "for profit" businesses. more

Dr. BARR has years of invaluable experience giving him Knowledge and Wisdom to Help Heal the Animals. He is an INCREDIBLE LISTENER, he never rushes me as I explain the symptoms, and then He shares his knowledge and experience, and together we agree on the Plan of Care for my Animals. He Never pushes any Diagnostic tests that are not necessary ? in fact ? He is the opposite- in that He is always trying to save me money. Dr. BARR recommended me to go immediately to the Orthopedic Specialist when my dog?s back legs stopped working! My dog was recommended to have immediate Spinal Cord surgery in which she had a Laminectomy for a Herniated Disc! I am SO GRATEFUL that Dr. BARR knew immediately what to recommend, and who to recommend me to for the Spinal Cord Surgery! My dog fully recovered from the surgery in 8 months and she has been walking independently ever since! DR. BARR has a Heart ? Full of COMPASSION, and the GIFT of HEALING the Animals ! He is an EXCELLENT, GENTLE COMMUNICATOR when explaining his Recommendations. He is the Doctor I have chosen to put 2 of my elderly Animals to sleep ? after He had done everything to provide them with the Highest quality of Life. DR. BARR is Truly an ANGEL. I would give negative stars if possible. never ever take your pet here. I took my dog in to remove a bone from her intestine. I was assured the surgery went well and that she was fine. When I visited and noticed that she had vomited I was told it was due to the drugs they had just given her. When I noticed she was not herself; I was told it was due to the drugs. The vet, John Barr, released her to me after 2 days; said the lack of eating was probably because she was finicky. Within 6 hours she was dead, and I fully blame this place's lack of care and/or incompetence for her death. They let her sit in a cage suffering and dying while they did nothing but run up my bill. more

Just picked up my miniature dachshund after four days of boarding and was told there's a mandatory charge of $29 and change for a bath they must give the dog BEFORE I TAKE HIM HOME! That's right. An absolutely unneeded service. I wish I'd read CitySearch before taking him there. more

They saved my dog's life and put up with my nervousness. I have taken my dog to Alton Road Animal Hospital since I moved to the beach 7 months ago. While it is a bit pricey it is well worth it. Their service is the best - they care about animals. \r \r I don't know who the crazy lady is writing about CARMEN and calling her a liar but that lady is CRAZY.\r \r Carmen is amazing - she is a wondeful Vet Tech and I was happy she was there to take care of my dog. I trust Carmen and know that she has our animal's best interest at heart. I think the woman who wrote about her is just nuts.\r \r Another thing about their pricing is they will give you an estimate up front. And they will help you decide for the best care for your animal.\r \r I recommend Alton Road Animal Hospital to everyone - in fact one of my friends will be going there for the first time today. more

i am outraged and plan to sue. Such negligence and the worst personalities ever!\r \r My dog had a bath on 11/8 then was spayed on 11/16.\r A few days after she was spayed I noticed her ear was irritated so I bout some drops at petsmart and figured if it didn't go away when I bring her in to have stitches removed I would ask them about it.\r \r I took her to get stitches removed on 11/27 and paid for a bath and to have ear checked.\r \r Carmen had the nerve to tell me to clean her ears when I DO! in fact I paid this horrific facility to do it for me as I do weekly when my dog gets a bath but in this case she was bathed twice there in 3 weeks plus visited on off week so now Carmen tells me it's just dirt but today I took her to another vet and they said she has an ear infection. \r \r Carmen LIED! She is an awful person and I will not stop till everyone knows of her neglect to care for my dog- a very service I paid for!\r \r I complained to Jack Carson but so far he hasn't done anything. This place is the worst specifically CARMEN T. Do not let this liar touch your dog. She SAYS she does what you pay for but in fact she doesn't. I paid for a bath which includes her ears but I was concerned about her ears and asked to be called if further testing was needed as they were irritated. Carmen said they were just dirty but I took her to another vet today to have a 2nd opinion and she has an ear infection. more

I have lived on Miami Beach and have been a client of Alton Rd. Animal Hospital for 9 years... Everyone from the receptionist to the Vet Tech to the Vets and Lela the manager have always been professional, helpful , knowledgable... Whenever I needed something , they are always there to help, whether it be because my animal is sick, or I have a question about food, medication.. I have had several animals that have been very sick and without the techs in the back and kennel those animals would not have survived, because of all the "TLC" they get.. All of them are treated as if they belonged to one of the employees... Every dog and cat is treated with dignity and so much care.. They go above and beyond .. Another thing also , when it is busy in the front, you are always acknowledged with a Hello and have you been taken care of, and I will be with you in a minute, unless it is an extreme emergency... My experincae with this hospiatl was very bad, they showed no intrest in the well being of my Dog. I felt all they cared about is money and how much they will charge you. more

I tried this place a couple of times. There are too many people, and I didn't feel like one person was responsible for the care of my dog. It could have been cleaner. There is a small parking place in front. more
