I went to Urban Waxx after having a bad experience elsewhere. I saw Heather for a brazillian and hands down it was the best wax I have ever had. They use great wax that makes it a lot less painful than strips that are ripped off. The shop is cute,the staff is very friendly, and Heather gave me a great wax. the results far surpassed what I thought they would. Already made my next appointment, and I reccommend anyone who needs waxing to do the same. Pros: Price is great and Heather is amazing at her job. Cons: None more

As a guy, I was very scarred about getting waxed. When I got there was very calming. Got in the room then starting to wax. It wasn't bad at all. I thought it would hurt after wards, I hardly felt a thing. Great job. Pros: everything Cons: none more

Having had waxing experiences that ran the gamut from "Okay" to "Welcome to the Seventh Circle of Hell", I was getting absolutely desperate. I have spent the last 5 1/2 years in the Pacific Northwest trying to find the proverbial needle in a haystack: someone who knows what they are doing when close to a region of my body that I highly value (ahem) with a potentially dangerous substance: namely, hot wax. I speak from a place of experience-- BAD experience, unfortunately. So, after finally getting brave enough again to try and seek out my Holy Grail of "The ABSOLUTELY PERFECT Brazilian", I read pretty much every review on the internet (which isn't always the ideal place for research, but what can ya do sometimes?). I took a leap of faith and called Urban Waxx. Let me say: I knew it from the moment I spoke to Joanne, the salon receptionist/manager, that I'd found the place. She put me at ease immediately as we spoke of my horror story that has made me so wary to trust another waxer, my reluctance to continue walking around like Yeti, and my sheer desperation to finally-- just FINALLY-- get a good wax...a REALLY good wax. I booked with Shannon on a Saturday (how wonderful to be able to get an appointment with the owner, on a weekend even!). When I got to the salon, I was taken with how clean, airy and artsy it is. A spread of goodies and a glass of wine to begin was great, but the true test was yet to come. I was ushered into Shannon's comfortable little room, we laughed and kidded from the get-go, and from start to finish it was hands-down the most gentle experience I have had. EVER. The best wax, the best technique, the best bedside manner. THE BEST! I am a stickler for absolute perfection-- and she nailed it. Perfectly straight, no broken hairs, no tweezing, no stray hairs, no irritation, redness gone after two hours, just sleek, smooth skin. I am now a client for life! Urban Waxx is the ONLY place to go- if you want it done right! SERIOUSLY. Pros: Skillful staff, sweet salon, super friendly Cons: ZERO! more

I was wanting to try a Braz wax, a woman at work said she see's Shannon at Urban Wax. I got the # and called and said my friend says I should see Shannon for waxing. The receptionist said Ok let's get you scheduled with Shannon.... it was a little difficult getting in with her and I ended up with a day/time that wasn't my first choice but worked. I was surprised when I got to Urban Wax that it's a large studio with several waxers and that Shanon is pregnant. Being preg isn't a problem but Shannon explained that she will be going out on maternity soon and she would recommend one of the other gals for me. It took a lot for me to finally get up the nerve to get waxed and now I have to bare it all for someone new? I was confused as to why wasn't I offered anyone elsewhen I made the appointment, I had no idea there were other waxers at this place and why is Shannon even taking new clients?? The place is cute/trendy and friendly but I will once again have to get up the nerve to take it off in front of someone new. Pros: Good wax though I have nothing to compare it to. Cute place Cons: not being told my waxer was pregnant and would have to go to someone new very soon. more

I visited Urban Waxx a couple weeks ago right before a week vacation to somewhere tropical. I hadn't been waxed in a loong time because my last 2 Brazilians were horrible experiences! I was desperate and after reading the reviews on City Search I thought I would give them a try. I was scheduled with Mindy for a Brazilian & brow wax. After filling out some paper work and having a glass of wine I was ready! Mindy took me into a private room (with a door) and immediately made me feel comfortable! She was friendly, knowledgeable about what she was doing and fast. What I really liked about Mindy was that even after I told her about the 2 places where I had the bad waxing experiences she didn't jump on the "bash them" bandwagon.. she said "that s*cks" that you had those experiences and then explained that I may have gotten someone just out of school & that brazilians are not taught in school and that most people don't realize that the type of wax you use makes a huge difference. She also said that no matter who I visit at Urban Waxx for my brazilian/brows I will have a great wax. I really liked that she didn't tell me I could ONLY see her, so of course now I only want to see her! :) My only complaint is that the room got really really warm/hot but the reception area was really cold. I think there are/were some heating/cooling issues. In no way did this take away from the fabulous wax! Thank you Mindy, thank you thank you thank you! Pros: Mindy / Price for Brazilian goes from $70 to $50 if you come back within 5 weeks. Cons: rooms get really warm. more

This place is in an urban area, but it is truly a peaceful reprieve from the hustle and bustle of the city. Having lived in SF, I've yet to see a place that is so aesthetically pleasing and welcoming as this location. It has a professional feel, but is not clinical or snobby. The art on the walls is unique and interesting to look at as you enjoy reading a magazine, perhaps with a glass of wine, before or after your appointment. I have NEVER waxed before, but I finally wanted to take the plunge and decided on Urban Waxx for my first brazilian. Mindy was amazing...fast, considerate, calming, and skilled. I was in and out in approx. 15 min and it didn't hurt nearly as much as I thought it would. If you need some liquid courage, check out Emanon around the corner for a drink beforehand :) Overall, big thumbs up to Shannon for creating a wonderful place. I will definitely be back for followup appointments...especially since this is one of the only locations I found that actually rewards loyal customers with a lower price for a "maintenance brazilian", which I must say is a nice little incentive besides everything else! more

I've been seeing Mindy for over a year for all my waxing. Brazilian / Brow / Lip I live in Beaverton and would make the trek out to Tualatin every 3-4 weeks to see her. She recently moved to a new place called Urban Waxx in NW Portland. The first time I walked into her new digs I was like.. WOW this place is FABULOUS! Clean, uncluttered, great art on the walls and super friendly staff! We all know Brazilians aren't fun, it does hurt but I swear the wax she uses at this new place is waaay less painful & sticky that whatever the old place used. It feels like warm silly putty, really! Before I found Mindy I had checked out many places in Beaverton & downtown and hands down she's the best. She's also hella funny and always remembers what we talked about last time, it's like catching up with a friend when I have an appointment. Thanks Mindy! You make my soon to be hubby very happy! I love the new place. more

So, last week she suggested I try one of the 3 other girls that she works with. I was really nervous about the switch, but she promised me they were all trained by her, and awesome. So, I went to Fairley for my appt, and she was awesome! She's really funny and nice, and just as fast as Shannon. I had nothing to stress about. The whole experience was great! You rock, Fairley! Pros: Cool location, super friendly chicks, great vibes more

I've never written a review before but I've benefited greatly from reading others' advice so now is as good a time as any to give back and help as well. And I feel that I have an obligation to support a local business that is this good. In the last 10 years, I have gone to many "top" - aka expensive, snooty - salons to get my legs and bikini area waxed. I kept hoping I'd find someone that was good enough to trust to do the unthinkable but desirable brazilian wax. After getting the best, quickest leg wax I've ever had, I decided to go for it with Shannon. I can't say it was 100% painless but I AM 100% convinced it was as painless as it could possibly be. And I've gone back at least 6 times -not bad for a total wimp- and it gets easier and less painful each time. Bottom line is I will continue to go back, and my very hard-to-please friends, who I sent to Shannon and came away raving, will as well. Why? Because she is fast and focused while being fun, funny and friendly. Nice alliteration, huh?! Corny, right?! But it is true. Lastly, the prices are as reasonable as you will find anywhere, guaranteed, and the new salon is absolutely gorgeous. The candy, chocolates, and beverages aren't bad either... Pros: Fast, professional service. Beautiful salon. Evening and wknd appts. available. Great prices. more
