Try the brownies. Rich, decadent and moist. more

RACIST! RACIST! 9/13/2009

We were the first in line and in the store, and we didn't even get an acknowledgement from the store owner. He ignored us to cater to people behind us. \r \r Two African Americans went in to apply for jobs and received no callbacks despite heavy experience in the restaurant business as well as having attended culinary school.\r \r The food was like what we ate before at another restaurant. If you're going to steal recipes acknowledge the creator at least.\r \r This place is way overrated and has nothing special. Plus, I noticed nasty people working in the back. To the employees-Wash your hands after wiping your nose. more

Great breakfasting spot 5/9/2009

This wonderful little bakery serves up fantastic cinnamon rolls and other treats. A great place to have a cup of coffee and enjoy a weekend morning. Pros: Wonderful baked goods Cons: Parking can be a little dicey at the wrong times more

We missed breakfast 4/11/2009

We arrived a tad late and all of the breakfast pastries were sold out, including the croissants. We did decide to order lunch sandwiches as well as a couple slices of cake. The egg salad and avocado sandwiches we ate were pretty light and fresh. As far as the cake we had, the Marisa cake maybe could have used more strawberries but was still wonderful. The mocha almond cake was not too chocolatey or sweet, but the icing was too dense and heavy to fully enjoy. As far as the atmosphere, it's a quaint cafe with a descent number of tables to sit and a friendly staff. All in all, we would definitely make a return visit to try other things and make it a point to go earlier next time. Pros: Large selection of items (if you can make it on time) Cons: Not enough pastries to last through the day more

best cinnamon rolls 1/6/2009

I love the baked goods and the bread more

Wonderful food, wonderful people 9/15/2008

Things I like about Upper Crust: Pros: price, drinks, food, service, community Cons: ambience a little lacking more

Love the cheese soup! 8/11/2008

Really? 11/29/2007

I just came back from Upper Crust Bakery. \r Once I entered the bakery, I was very surprised that I couldn't smell baking from kitchen. I mean it was 7:40am, when do you bake those bread? last night? \r \r Anyway, I tried plain croissant because it is a very basic pastry. If your croissant stinks, so does your entire bakery.(just my opinion though) \r OK, this croissant was cold and not good at all. Again, when do they bake these croissants? I could go to HEB to get croissants fresher than this. I tried Peach Danish as well. I thought it was a sugar crap. Seriously... I tried two different stuff and both sucked. What can I expect more?\r \r I see all the positive reviews. I don't get it.\r I mean, you folks in Austin are too much for me. \r \r I see from one review saying "Oh I see some people complaining about parking. Well, it is actually fun to find a parking spot" \r \r That is funny as hell. Thank you!\r I mean seriously, you folks in Austin are too much for me.\r No offense but too much for more

Yummmmm! 10/25/2007

I love Upper Crust! They have the best pasteries in Austin if not the world! The interior and decor is very inviting and cozy feeling. I love to come sit on the patio, sip a cup of coffee and enjoy a crouissant or indulge in a cinnamon roll. No complaints here! more

Great Lunch Spot 10/24/2007

While most people think of the Upper Crust as a place to spend those idle morning hours sipping coffee, reading the paper, or visiting with friends, I like to frequent the bakery for lunch. You can get the most delicious sandwiches. Everything is fresh and the bread is right out of the oven. The prices are reasonable and the service is fairly quick. I highly suggest this place for a lunch with friends or a lunch-time pick up for the office. more

Great Neighborhood Bakery 10/24/2007

The Uppercrust Bakery is a refreshing change of pace from the masses of corporate coffee places popping up on every street corner. The Upper Crust is very inviting and cozy feeling. You can enjoy a fresh cup of coffee or tea at a number of the tables inside or enjoy the nice weather on the quaint patio area. The aromas that greet you when you walk in the door are intoxicating and the staff is always friendly and hospitable. A true jem! more

big turn off 10/8/2007

Upper Crust is well known and has been open for a long time, the chocolate cupcake was moist. But the food was really disappointing and i received a refund from them. The hibiscus tea was watery, the chips were stale, the salsa was bitter, and the avacado on my sandwhich was brown. The sandwhich was bland. Unfortunately, I will not be returning. Pros: Central location Cons: Disappointing Food more

can you say super yummy breakfast? 6/14/2007

I love this place. It's classy, quick and comfortable. Everything is delicious especially the marble cupcakes and breakfast pastries. The fresh and beautiful cakes are always a tempting treat. Mmmmm. Pros: A wonderful place to start the day. Cons: They close at 1pm on sundays. more

Yum! 2/27/2007

This place is really great, the pastries are delectable. It is extremely busy on the weekend and there does seem to be an un-posted ordering process. I have yet to figure it out, but will soon enough because it is good enough for a return visit. more

Great bakery. 1/19/2007

This bakery has been a favorite of mine for years. I often show up when they open at 7am and drink the bottomless cup of coffee along with a yummy current scone. The staff is always friendly and there are always plenty of things to read (statesman, chronicle) while loitering. The lunch sandwiches are also very good and very nutritious. My fav is the turkey and provolone on whole wheat bread with red onions and sprouts. The bread is excellent (shock!) and the hibiscus iced tea is a winner. Always check the day old shelf for some of yesterdays best baked goods at half off!!! Pros: Its all good. If its baked at the Upper Crust its the best in Austin. Cons: I've read some complaints about the parking but I think its FUN to try to find a spot. more

No Doubt, Best Bakery In Town 12/1/2006

As a professional baker here in Austin, I can say with all confidence that Upper Crust is the Best Bakery in Town!! Their execution with the pastries is top notch. Looking at the cakes and pastries you can tell nothing is frozen or prepared ahead of time. Their wares shine with freshness. If you have a love of artisan-baked goods made with pride, then you must visit Upper Crust!! Pros: You can tell Pride Was Taken In The product Cons: Parking is a Hassle more

You'll want to try everything! 11/17/2006

This is one of my favorite fast, casual lunch spots. They have savory soups, create-your-own sandwiches, salads, combos ... everything is pretty healthy and affordable (you can get a great lunch for about $6). Order at the counter and it's delivered to your table a few minutes later. Never had anything from the bakery that I didn't love. Try the ""black gold"" cookies if you want something decadent, and don't miss the cornbread if you want something heartier -- I don't know what they put in that recipe but it's fabulous. Pros: great food, friendly staff, fast, cheap Cons: parking sometimes tricky more

A bakery for lunch? Yep! 7/16/2006

Great quiche! Friendly service. A little slow on a recent afternoon, but they probably schedule for a morning rush. Comfortable place - I like hanging out rather than taking to-go. Pros: Friendly staff, nice FRESH selection. Cons: parking can be tight when they're busy more

lunch 11/24/2005

This is a convenient, quick lunch. The sandwiches, soups, and baked goods are great. Everyone I have ever taken there has agreed these are the best peanut butter cookies in all of Austin. PROS: cookies CONS: busy more
