Very Good Eats 3/8/2010

K all the reviews here are really old...I've been there a few times recently so heres how it is now: 1. Its good because you don't tip. Why would you? Everything is self service. So the guy complaining about tipping a few yrs ago I guess things have changed? I've never seen anyone tip. I've never tipped. And thats way cool because 2. the food is not cheap, as another review here reported. Its the same prices you would pay in any other Korean restaraunt. Maybe a wee bit less. 3. the food is spectacular. epic! the portions fill you up. the dishes rival anything in any other Korean restaurant in town..actually no...the dishes are are far superior than anything else in town. 4. one review complained about the atmosphere/friendliness of the staff. Well...if you aren't Korean, you pretty much get treated like a number at most Korean places. its easy to get them to warm up to you though, maybe ask them a couple questions about the food, smile, show interest. As far as the grocery store goes...nothing special...there are asian markets even korea specific ones smattered around the metro. they all carry the same things pretty much, just go to the one closest. But if you want awesome food cooked for you, come here. Pros: good food Cons: kind of inconvenient location more

Great food - good price... 6/28/2007

I love this place! The food is awesome - eat the bulgolgi, kim bab and chop jae - great taste very authentic. You may not feel overly welcome but who the hell cares when you are at a counter deli! If the staff sees you coming in more than a few times they actually may smile at you and throw in something for free. I am married to an Asian man and we regularly get dirty looks our way in other Korean restaurants for being a mixed couple - say Hoban, Shilla and a few others - here not so much. They just want to collect their money and serve good food. Not a bad trade off if you ask me. Pros: Awesome food, Authentic and well priced Cons: counter service, staff can be rather rude sort of like the soup Hitler (cannot use word) more

Best Korean food at its Affordable Price 4/4/2007

It is a great place to go for a new experience. You get a taste of what real Korean food is like at a cheap price-- probably the best Korean food around town. It's a convenient way to eat without tipping. Friendly service and great variety in the restaurant AND in the grocery store. They have Chinese and Japanese products, too. I love this place. I come here every weekend, but it can get really busy on Sundays. You should give it a try! Pros: Great food, great price Cons: Gets really busy on weekends more

not worth the trip 3/13/2006

...but if you do go, here are some tips: bring exact change (and not just because they'll ask for it every time) tip generously (or else...) As a grocery store it's ok, some unique products, decent selection. But the deli is always a dissapointment, food is sometimes great, sometimes merely ok, and the service always reminds me that I'm not really welcome there. Pros: good selection, clean Cons: poor service, inconsistent quality more

COULDN'T BE BETTER 11/9/2005

Come check this place out. A little dining, shopping for fresh meat, produce, and other korean fruits. This place has it all. Best service out of all the korean stores. You don't want to miss it. Pros: good parking, fresh food, great service more

Unexpected 8/6/2003

This mid-sized Asian grocery store is probably one of the larger ones in the metro area. Dong Yang is mainly a Korean store, with a sprinkling of a few other types of Asian foods. I'd put it on par with Seoul Foods, which is another Korean store just up Central Avenue from Dong Yang. One advantage is that Dong Yang also has a small cafe inside, so if you came hungry, you can fill up on tasty bulgogi or kalbi first, and then do you shopping. Prices are affordable, and one of my favorite finds was the pre-marinated bulgogi meat in the refrigerated deli case near the cafe. Just take it home, cook it and eat! Pros: Good size, wet lit, Not crowded, Good variety for MN Cons: Out of the way, Meat is in small pkgs more
