Great Downtown Pizzeria and more 5/31/2010

One of the major fixtures of Clayton Street, Transmet as it?s commonly known, is a two-story contemporary and urban pizza joint and more. Beyond having one of the best grilled chicken Caesar salads in the state, the roasted potatoes, focaccia, bruchetta and fresh made special lasagnas dare to take the cake. Upstairs, the dark brown bar houses more tables and a private event space ? thought he build-your-own-bloody-mary bar is the main attraction on Sunday mornings. Make sure to check out the local art on the walls while you stand in line for counter service and snag a spot on the covered patio outside if you can. Pros: Great Caesar salad / can?t beat the location Cons: During peak hours, the line to order creeps super-slow more

Tasty and Not Too Towny 8/4/2008

If you?re looking for the best blackened tofu in town and cold pitchers of PBR, search no further. Transmetropolitan boasts a unique blend of Italian and American cuisine from large calzones stuffed with your favorite pizza toppings to portabella paninis and potato soup. Draft beer is cheap and cold but if you?re craving a cocktail, the upstairs has a full bar in addition to extra seating, some of which overlooks downtown. Perching outside in cafe style comfort is an option, and you?re more than welcome to enjoy a smoke and bring your pooch. My favorite is the build your own salad! It?s reasonably priced, around $7, and you can load it high with fresh veggies and feta cheese. A jukebox in the corner assures a variety of tunes and although the staff is comprised of typical college-town hipsters, they keep your table clean and stay out of your way while you enjoy your meal. Order and pay at the counter when you arrive, and they?ll have your pizza to your table in ten to fifteen minutes. Serving food until 11pm on the weekends and staying open until 2am for the night owls, they offer a chic, casual, adult atmosphere for those who want to avoid the underage bars and college kid feel. Pros: Chill atmosphere and tasty eats Cons: average service more
