Trainer's Place

This is a gym for people who want to work out and not be bothered by the sales pitch that you often get at other gyms. All the equipment that you would expect from a professional training gym is there, icluding a boxing set-up, a TRX, tons of machines and a bunch of other wierd stuff (like heavy ropes) that I don't know how to use. Everything is on one floor so I can get my workout done quickly. It's very casual so I never feel that I have to get dressed up to meet my trainer and the hours are extended so I can go whenever I need. The only downside that I can see is that there are no showers, but I hate showering at the gym anyway so that's fine for me. Overall it's a great place to work out, with or without a trainer. more

As a trainer I have to say that this place is perfect. I don?t have to deal with most of the crap you get at other personal training studios like scheduling and all because it?s a ?walk in? deal, Come any time you want. They are open super early so I can always get here before my 6am?ers and prepare my workout programs for them. The owner Paul is cool as heck and the equipment is TOP QUALITY. My clients love it and they have all seen good results working out here. Over all I prefer to train here than other studios I have been to because the space is bigger, its laid back, the people here WORK OUT, and are serious about their results, and I don?t have to worry about my clients complaining. I would recommend this studio to any trainer and client looking for serious results and a place achieve those results. more

This is a great place to workout so don?t pay attention to all the bashers. Its big, spacious, they have all of the equipment you need. The owner is a great guy. Not very many machines but I understand why: its because you can only come here if you have a trainer and obviously any good trainer wont sit you down on a machine all day. They have cables, mats, free weights, squat racks and other stuff I have never even seen before. At the end of the work out my trainer lies me down on the stretch table and goes to work. They have towel service, water, music, good air conditioning and its always clean. I love how its hardly ever crowded and I never have to move or wait for equipment like at a gym. I always get a good workout. Over all I like working out here and I would recommend it to anyone looking to workout with a trainer. more

This facility is not designed for the client, it's truly designed for the trainer. It is true, it does NOT have showers, however, most people that use the gym live in the neighborhood and simply shower at home and lets face it, many people are skeeved by the showers at the NYSC's and Equinox of the world anyways! It does not have a water fountain however, water is available for purchase for $1. Your paying $100 an hour for your trainer, you can swing $1 for a bottle of water and quite frankly, Paul the owner will probably take out his key and open the machine up and give you a bottle of water if you don't have money to buy one. It doesn't have all the equipment of a big gym but for the most part the clients that go there are focused on goals and while the trainers do chit chat to each other some, it's typically in more of a family like atmosphere. This gym is a great option for a trainer who wants to be profitable and have a career independantly as opposed to hustling check to check in a JOB at a big box gym. more

My trainer took me here for several months before he and I both decided to find another location. I'm not sure where to begin, the place is dirty, the owner is intimidating, unfriendly and often absent (which actually made the experience of being there more pleasant). At one point money was stolen from my pants which were in locker, when I complained I was basically told ""things happen"" with a shrug. I take Pilates here regularly, and the trainers are stellar. It's true that it has no shower, but it's close to home and very convenient (and clean). All the trainers, both Pilates and otherwise, operate independently, and I followed my trainer from another studio. I've been doing Pilates for 8 years, and I've had the chance to observe the other trainers at work- they are both respectful and experienced. The equipment is up to par, with lots of great props and extras. The owner is, in fact, there often - he's a trainer too - and he comes in and says hello almost every time I'm in the studio. He's also very open to suggestions and critique & tries to create a good atmosphere for people. So, I'm not sure where the person below got their information, but it sounds like a nasty slam as it is very inaccurate. All told, it's a great place, convenient, good trainers & a friendly, trusting atmosphere. Added bonus for Pilates clients- we get to work out in the main gym both 1/2 hour before and after our Pilates sessions for free. So I get my cardio, then a good session with a great trainer!! more

This is not the place you want to work out. Aside from no water fountain or shower, the equipment is old and the place is generally dirty, especially the floor mats which need to be hosed down. The trainers spend much of their time talking to each other and for the most part, the focus on training their clients is minimal. The owner is never there and instead relies on one random hourly employee to sit at a desk reading a book. At the desk you can see how much your trainer is being charged by this gym(approx. $25/hour) since the price list is posted for all to see. There is no emphasis on the client. Nothing to make you feel like this place is worth the money you are paying your trainer. There are make-shift locker rooms with lockers that seem like they were purchased from a yard sale. The building is closed on weekend mornings so a hike up five floors through a back stairwell is required to access the gym. Check it our for yourself before signing up with your trainer. more

This is the best facility I have found for Private training and Pilates training. Pros: The best trainers staff equipment and service. Cons: No Shower more

I have been using the Independent Trainers place for both Pilates and Personal Training. The facility is fantastic the staff is real helpful. And the place is clean and well run. My trainer loves bringing me here the rates are great and the facility has the best equipment. My friends train with the house trainers Steve and Paul and they just love them. A great place to train. Pros: Great Trainers, convinient and clean , new equipment Cons: No shower more
