I live in Castro Valley, not too far from San Leandro. I haven't used my fireplace for years, so I decided to clean it. My only problem: I didn't know where to start. I was pleasantly surprised to hear that a fireplace store was so close by. more

Around a decade ago actually, I went to Top Notch Energy to have a fireplace installed. As a long standing San Leandro homeowner, the location of this place is close by and at an convenient area for me to return to. It?s 2012 now and I dropped by the store to have John repair and check out my fireplace. This place is as exemplary in customer satisfaction as it was 10 years ago. My fireplace is as good as new after John?s service. John Notch is a skilled professional and he continues to wow me with how well he does his job and how experienced and skilled he is in his trade. more

I dont understand the low ratings below. Mr. Notch really knows his stuff. Hes thorough and detail-oriented, I appreciate his professionalism. I dropped by the shop with my son-in-law to find a gas fireplace for his home. John made great suggestions and went out of his way to make sure that we understood the pros and cons, he was very informative. Soon enough, we had him over to take measurements for the fireplace and as soon as the unit we ordered arrived, John came to install it. The fireplace works great and we are content and satisfied with Johns customer service. He deserves a higher rating. I had a good experience with these guys. I needed to warm up my house and bought a fireplace. There was professional service and they were very knowledgeable. My fireplace was installed the same week as I had purchased. They were quick and careful installing mines because my space was small. I had no problems and they left my mind at ease. I have never used Yelp before but I absolutely had to make an account just so I could write a review. I was convincingly recommended here from a friend of mine who had gotten a fireplace installation in the past. I gotta say, my overall experience here was excellent. The show room that they have in the store is impressive and the store itself has a homely, warm and inviting atmosphere. We recently moved into the neighborhood so I came with my husband to purchase a gas insert for our new home. The service is fantastic, we walked in and got help right away as they were highly knowledgeable. We left with a brochure and Mr. John Notch personally came to our home to take measurements. We placed our order and got it within a week at a great price. He came out again and did the installation promptly. The whole process went smoothly and quickly and my husband and I had all our questions answered. John Notch is very professional and polite. I would highly recommend Top Notch Energy for all your fireplace needs--installations, maintenance, repairs. I am aware that they also do hot tubs as well. In the future my husband and I would gladly return to have one installed in our home. Definitely the place that I will be going to for my fireplace maintenance. They live up to the name of their company and definitely left me satisfied in my now cozy and heated home. more

Upon arriving at the store I was met and greeted by a knowledgeable employee that understood what my firplace needs were! Instalation was quick and painless. My experience was different than these other peoples. My husband and I wanted a fireplace for this winter and stopped by this local business. We had driven all the way from San Ramon. The staff was very friendly and answered all my questions. I was able to talk with boss of the business. They knew what they were talking about. I had looked around many places, but chose this place because it had the best price. I ordered a fireplace and it was installed perfectly. The assistant was so hardworking. Pros: Great Service more

I ordered a replacement glass for our fireplace and was quoted a price of $200.- and a time frame to get the item of one week. One month later when it was finally in the store (nobody called me to let me know, mind you) I sent my wife to pick up the piece of glass it was first of all not in the condition in which I ordered it, it was handed to my wife without any wrapping or box or padding - just the plain heavy piece of glass while she was holding my infant son and had my toddler by the other hand. The price was suddenly to be $260.- which had never been discussed and which I never would have agreed to AND to my utter surprise my credit card ( I had given the owner the credit card number as a deposit when I placed the order) had already been charged in the full amount without my consent or signature. I had never been handed a workorder or bill or anything of that sort. Where in the world can you charge a customer any price you like without their knowledge, consent, right, reason or signature? When my wife wanted to know why the bill was now to be $ 260.- the owner screamed at her in front of my kids and stormed out of the store to the street, saying ""The money is non refundable, I will call you later"" and left my wife standing in the store. Poor unprofessional service, high charges, inconsiderate brusque self-centered behavior; example, giving customer very little notice to fulfill long overdue appointment, hanging up on customers, long delays in completing work with no apology or valid excuse. Not finishing promised work. Pros: Knows the technology Cons: Unpleasant to deal with more
