I loved the setup of the little shack, the outdoor seating, and the overall ambiance. I've gone back twice now and on Friday night, I was pleasantly surprised that they had a DJ, which provided me with some entertainment while I waited for my pizza and throughout my meal. Unfortunately, the pizza wasn't that great. The first time around, I had a pepperoni pizza and this time, I ordered a sausage and mushroom. The dough seemed better this time around, but the pizza just seemed too salty to me. After giving Tony's Pizzaria two chances, I'm still not well impressed. Still, there was a bunch of take-out orders that night, so I recommend giving it a shot. Your taste buds may probably be different from mine. For me, the search for good NY style pizza goes on. Not fancy or pretentious, just very homey and friendly. Like eating at your favorite aunt's house. Excellent and friendly service from everyone in the restaurant. Varied menu includes fresh seafood, Angus steaks, multiple Italian choices from pizza to calzones and the best clam chowder I've ever tasted. In business 45 years! They demonstrated why when we stopped and had dinner on our way back to OC from Monterrey. My whole family was delighted. Tony's is one of the last mom and pop pizza joints around and a true Ventura institution. The crust is homemade and super good. Can be a tad greasy but nothing a napkin can't fix. Lots of local character. more

Tony's is not fancy or glamorous - just great thin crust pizza. The sauce is great - the pie is perfectly greasy in just the right way - we especially enjoy the slices when the cook them ""crisp"" on the bottom (as opposed to just a heat up.) Tony's pizza is a literal ""shack"" of a place, sitting at the corner of Figueroa and Thompson in Ventura. The pizzas are never perfectly round. But here's why: each pizza is hand-tossed, right in front of you by one of Tony's friendly, super-casual pizza chefs. The place is always packed, service is slow, they don't deliver, and parking can be a drag. But the pizza is awesome! Even plain cheese, which I always get, is the best. It's a true original. Stop searching. Now. This is the world's best pizza. Tony is the classic Italian pizza making guy, fun and pleasant. The place is a shack. Picnic tables, colorful quotes and paint schemes. No shoes no shirt no problem. BUT... The pizza is the best! If you want a perfectly round restaurant pizza, go somewhere else. Perfect for a nightcap after Radiohead at the SB Bowl. A++++!!!!
