i read a lot of these reviews about the hostile staff memebers and thought- well it cant be that bad... boy was i wrong! i personally had no problems but witnessed several alterca...

definitely go 11/16/2006

tonic is a great addition to the area - big sports bar with lots of flatscreens and great music. i recommend the place for happy hour or to watch the game on saturday afternoon. there's always a great crowd and the tater tots are amazing! more

It's cool for games and after work drinks 10/25/2006

It reminds me of a SF bar--big screen TV's, Pub-like vibe. The food is classic pub fare, the drinks are good and the big screen TV's make it a good game spot. I wouldn't plan a party here but a HH? Why not? Pros: TV's, prices, central locale Cons: Not all that special more

very solid 10/2/2006

good place to watch the games especially penn state but be early gets a little crowded but the staff is nice and the food is good Pros: staff solid b - Cons: overcrowded more

Not for NFL 9/12/2006

Man, I remember watching construction of the building and hoping it was a bar. I was pretty psyched when I saw it was going to be a huge bar. I live right around the corner and the area needs a good spot to watch all the NFL games on Sunday. Unfortunately they dropped the ball when they designed the layout. I was in there this past Sunday to watch a particular out of town game. Too bad the only TV it was on was stuck on the 2nd floor all the way towards 3rd Ave. The two booths that actually had a view of the TV were occupied. That was the only way to see that TV, other than standing in front of the booths. Don't waste your time going in on Sunday afternoon, head uptown to 515 or Mercury Bar where you can stay in one area and see every game, or even the game you came to watch! Pros: Huge rooftop Cons: Bad layout more

Tired yet Consistent 9/7/2006

Me and my friends go to Tonic quite often, and quite often it's the same old sh**, same overcrowded weekend hotspot, same music videos that make you feel like the DJ hits the repeat button by accident far too often. The music is usually too loud, the murray hill crowd is too corny (even though I'm one myself now), and it's just that it was a fun, new, exciting atmosphere, and anyone who goes their will love it until they realize that it's deja vu everytime you step foot inside Tonic. But it's definetly no bar like it in the area, always decent food, massive TVs everywhere you look, and it's nice to see familiar faces pouring and serving drinks. Most of the staff is pretty friendly, attentive, and some actually seem genuine. more

At Last!!!!!! 8/15/2006

At last someone got it right, tons of screens, great food, friendly service and an all round good time, Hats off guys NICE PLACE!!!!!! Pros: GREAT PLACE TO WATCH THE GAME Cons: YOU HAVE TO GET THERE EARLY, ALWAYS A BIG CROWED more

Good place 8/10/2006

Pros: Food more

Tater Tots! YEAH!! Awesome Food! 8/8/2006

I live in the MH/Grammercy area and I've been to this place a couple of times since it opened. It is almost always crowded, sometimes too much so. The drinks are relatively cheap and good and the food is surprisingly good. For a bar, the food is awesome. I went the other night with a few girlfriends and we split the mini burgers and they were so good we ordered more food. I didn't know they really had food, when you walk in it seems like just a bar/club. We shared the calamari salad and steak wrap with tater tots. OMG, the tater tots brought us back to middle school. The only bad part was that our server was a complete airhead: not the sharpest tool in the shed. She totally messed up our drink order, i wanted gin and tonic and she brought vodka and sprite, who drinks that? and she brought us food that belonged to the table next to us. The guy at the next table had to correct her. Anyway, airhead aside the food was so good we'll most def come back. Pros: Cheap Drinks, Awesome Food: Tater Tots and Calamari Salad Cons: Airhead Waitress, Music was Bad and Too Loud more

Great bar to spend a Thursday night 8/3/2006

Good atmophere, average NY drink prices, and at least 1 TV per person. The roof deck was nice, though we could not get a drink up there. All the music in the first floor was accompanied with its video -- I had not seen a Bel Biv Devoe video for at least ten years until last night. more

Great new place! 8/3/2006

I have been to Tonic East with my girlfriends a few times since it opened and we have always had a geat time. (It was crazy during the World Cup!) All of the food and drinks have been great...especially love the desserts!!! (the Nutella sandwich thingy with ice cream is yummy) The only problem that we have had is this idiot guy who walks around moving tables and staring at people. He seems to yell at the girls that work there and gives everyone, including customers, dirty looks!!! I don't know who he is or if he even works there! Taking him out of the picture, Tonic East is definitely our favorite new bar of the summer!!! Pros: Rooftop, Yummy Food Cons: Scary Man more

AWESOME BURGERS! 8/1/2006

Say what you want about Tonic East and the Murray Hill clientele that go here. But I have had both their regular burger and their mini burgers and I have to say that Tonic East has one of the best burgers in the city. I am a burger connoisseur and have had all top burgers in the citythese burgers are right up there with the best. They are juicy, tasty, and come on a good brioche roll. Unfortunately, the fries that come with it are boring shoestring style and cant compare to the burger. They also have a pretty good beer selection and lots of plasmas & projection TVs to watch the game. Pros: The burgers! Cons: The clientele more

great food, friendly and cute staff! 7/24/2006

I live in Murray Hill and have been to Tonic East a couple of times. The food is very good, with a nice asian twist. The service was great! Eventhough the waitresses had to work in a fully-packed bar, they managed to keep a smile on their faces, while assisting customers. I recommend this bar to anyone who enjoys a good social scene, cute waitresses, and sports. Pros: cute/helpful staff Cons: a little too packed on weekends. more

Awesome staff, cool bar, cheesy music 7/20/2006

I have been living in the neighborhood for 5 years and have been a regular at banc and 515 for all that time. Like a lot of Murry Hill I wasnt too happy at another bar opening esp to the magnatude of tonic but on tuesday me and a few friends decided to check it out anyway. Turns out it was a really fun place. The tvs are great. Great place to watch the world series in spring- they even have them in the bathroom. The barstaff is great. Alison (who hates the name Ali and loves New Jersey) and Nyll are on game making sure your drink is full and like to chit chat which makes the place seem less overwhelming and pretentious. The only cons: the music was a little too loud and a little to Z100 for my taste and the food is only good if you take it for what it is: a bar. So eat the nachos and burgers, stay away from the ""satay"" which is 9 bucks for a morsal of chicken with stringy carrots. Also gets PACKED on the weekends so the off days are def a better bet. Either way its worth going to have a beer at. Pros: bartenders, drink prices, tvs Cons: music, food thats not fried, too busy on weekends more

Horrible service. Aweful drinks. Too crowded. 7/16/2006

No cover charge and great music, but that's about where this place peaks. It's waaaay too crowded ( it feels like they keep letting people in, even after there is absolutely nowhere to walk- we were packed in like sardines) drinks are regularly priced but incredibly watered down, the waiters/bartenders are VERY rude and this place could use a dance floor. There are so many other places in the city that have the same feel but better service. I WOULD NOT recomment this place to any of my friends. Pros: good music. nice ambiance Cons: horrible drinks, rude waiters/bartenders, too crowded more

Place to be for sporting events, weekend bar stops, good looking people, and tasty food 6/24/2006

Definetly the most well rounded sports bar in the area. Massive flat screens layed out for a view in any spot, comfortable seats, with a good ability to go from sports atmosphere to top 40 music with an attractive well rounded scene of locals. It has an upscale feel, but casual atmosphere due to it's Irish influence. Also has great menu with a fantastic variety of food was way above the normal bar tastings. They offer a gorgeous roof top dining area, but service tends to be slow, and overall service throughout the bartenders and waitstaff is very selective. Pros: Sports, after work, singles or groups Cons: Slow roof top service, general abscence of standard amenities probably due to new opening more
