GREAT WINE BAR! 7/4/2009

My fiance and I went to MN last month to visit my brother and sister in law. The first night there they took us to Toast and we absolutely loved it! Great wines and appetizers. The atmosphere was good as well, just what we needed to start out our vacation. In fact, we liked it so much that our last night in town we asked to go back and we actually got to speak to the owner who was polite and helpful. We wish there was a place like this in Chandler and we can't wait to go back to MN and Toast! more

Tell your friends - Go to Toast! 9/14/2008

My husband and I are in constant search for low cost date options. Our goal is to have a nice meal in a relaxed setting. Toast is the perfect spot. The atmosphere is cozy and inviting - warm colors, a mix of high and low tables, and classic jazz music. While I was waiting for my husband to park the car (the lack of parking is the only downside to Toast) a man who I would later learn to be the owner, brought me the latest City Pages to read. The fact that he made an effort to make sure I was entertained made me feel more like I was in a neighborhood restaurant (which it is) rather than in a restaurant overly concerned about ratings. Pros: Friendly staff, great food, good value more

Linger and enjoy 2/26/2008

Please forgive my inability to name names. I intended to write this immediatley after my experience, but despite my lack of details, I must give my assessment of this establishment. Without question, this was one of the best pre-Theater antipasti and wine experiences I have had in a long time. The plating was clean and artful and the variety of ingredients was near pefection. While the plating suggests combinations, I had a wonderful time creating my own with the flavorful options so artfully presented before me. My palette thrilled with each flavor. Whether you are adventuous or are called to remain true to your individual comfort level, you will discover a lovely variety of options. For your own sake, strive to overcome your inner Lutheran or genetic call to view onions as a spice and let your palette run wild. I am familiar with wine and food pairings only in that I have my favorites which I reliably serve in my home when entertaining. Therefore, I asked the wait staff for a recommendation. They stepped up with a full-bodied red that was the perfect complement to the astipasti. I fully recommend this off the beaten track spot for your dining and social pleasures. Pros: The staff knows both the wine and the food menu and are ableto recommend pairings Cons: Location is a bit difficult to locate if you are not familiar with the area. more

Way too S-L-O-W 10/22/2007

I don't disagree with the positive remarks of the other reviews as they relate to food and value but service was unforgivably slow and inattentive. We arrived at 8:30 on a recent Friday evening; the place was about 2/3 full. We were seated promptly but then waited for about 10 mins for the waiter to take our order -- 2 glasses of wine and four pieces of crostini -- and then waited another 20 mins before the wine arrived. About 5 mins later, the crostini arrived. When I complained about the delay, the waiter blamed the delay on the bar -- even though we saw the bartender pour our glasses and set them on the bar for the waiter long before they were brought to us. I like a casual neighborhood restaurant as much as the next person but I need service that is way better than this. I definitely will not be back. Pros: good crostini Cons: lax service more

Hidden Gem! 9/7/2007

Toast is an outstanding place to go for some good to great wine and snacks. Don't expect a voluminous wine list or menu, but everything is carefully chosen and well-crafted. The owners hang around the place a lot and are great to chat with while you eat/drink. Very down to earth place that ""gets it"" much more that competitors like Spill the Wine. more

A welcomed addition to the neighborhood! 1/28/2007

I love this cafe and think it is a spectacular addition to the neighborhood! I like the atmosphere; cozy is the word that comes to mind. The wine list is FANTASTIC and not over priced. I believe they only have a wine/beer license and do not service alcohol. I have tasted numerous items on the ever-changing menu and everything, so far, has been delicious and priced right. Brushetta is sold by the piece with my favorite being the mushroom. Pressed sandwhiches are great and come with a side salad with a wonderful house-made dressing. Pizza's are super light and topped with fresh, unique cominations of toppings. Factor in the SUPER friendly, fast service and we have a winner. I also do not have much negative to write except that there is not parking. HOWEVER, street parking is ample and free after 6 p.m. weekdays and all day on weekends. Classy establishment that I hope thrives well into the future! Pros: Ambience, service, tasty limited menu Cons: Parking more

Great new wine bar with delcious food! 1/25/2007

My husband and I recently joined another couple for dinner out at Toast. There was a great variety of wines that we all thoroughly enjoyed. We ordered a variety of items off of the menu and shared them. It was a great way to try all of the different Bruschetta sandwiches and pizzas. For dessert we had a fabulous chocolate dish. The atmosphere is very cozy and we received excellent service. more

Cozy, contemporary, perfect for good conversation 1/15/2007

My husband and I have been to ""Toast"" twice. Both times we found the ambiance inviting, the wine choices excellent, and the food interesting and delicious. The service was friendly and interested in pleasing us as we made a couple of special requests and they came through for us. Not many negatives here, but a guest needs to know there is no parking lot (street parking is available though). Most of the tables are high with high chairs to match - not my favorite. Since we live in the neighborhood we are delighted to find a restaurant we will be glad to return to many times. more

Our new favorite Wine Bar! 1/14/2007

If you're like me and you enjoy great wine, good service and delicious food, check out this new wine bar. My wife and I joined our friends for dinner at Toast this past Saturday night and had an excellent time. Toast is nestled into a small corner of a newer building complex on North 1st Street. From here, we had a great view of the city lights. We were treated to several different wines from their ample menu and sampled most of the bruchetta and other antipasti (I couldn't get enough of the chickpea and lemon bruschetta). We then devoured a couple of pizzas and finished the night with dessert and an incredibly delicious port. Pros: Ambience, Wine selection, Parking, Service, Creative menu items more
