This vintage theater has been around for aprox. seventy years and is still going strong. These days they show second run films and host special events. It is special also because it has not been converted into a theater that shows four or five films, it only show the one. Inside the have gone to great lengths to preserve the architecture and have restored it to it's original splendor I have been informed. They have a pianist play here also on a grand old pipe organ that's as old as the building, what an amazing treat all the way around. more

Best theathre in Downers Grove 8/23/2005

The Tivoli is my absolute favorite theatre around. It is stunningly beautiful and well preserved. Actually, they've been taking greater care of it over the last few years and maintaining it beautifully. It's a beautiful old building with an awesome theatre with a huge dome in the ceiling that you can lean back and stare at until the movie starts if you'd like. There is a piano player on Fridays that is always entertaining. Cost is $3 a person. more

Second Sound Theater built in the US 8/13/2005

this is a very historic place. If you dont know, the Tivoli Theatre was the second theater built in the United States that could support movies with sound. It doesnt play movies right when they come out, but by the time they reach the tivoli, you can go see them for quite a bargain. The Tivoli is much cheaper than any of the big name theaters like Cinemark or Loews. more

Old time theatre 8/10/2005

The Tivoli theater is a beautiful old time theater. The ceilings are huge and the artwork is really something to see. On the weekends, a gentleman plays an old time piano/organ. There is about twenty minutes of beautiful music before the movie begins. The price is very reasonable. It costs $3.00 per person and your receive a card. With the purchase of six movies, you receive one free movie. If you sign up with there website you also get more offers such as free popcorn. Very entertaining. more
