GREAT FOOD, GREAT ATMOSPHERE 4/3/2008

i was just visiting and my friends told me about three seasons, so we went. i am no expert in vietnamese food but i must say it was great food. we started with the summer spring rolls. they were pretty good, im not much of an appetizer type of guy, but they were good. i ordered the shaking beef AKA Bo Luc Lac and it was some of the tastiest food i have had to date. it was a little spicy for me but i am a wimp when it comes to spicy food. the atmosphere was great, the customers seemed to be enjoying themselves, the setting was nice. the service was HORRIBLE. the only reason i give 4 stars and not 5. the waitresses were slow and rude. had to ask multiple times for drink refills or silverware. gave dirty looks and bad attitudes when we asked for the check 5 times. and made the whole experience uncomfortable. thank god the food was good is all i can say. pretty bad when the bus boy askes you if you need a refill. i will be returning there this weekend. probably saturday night. give it another shot for my last weekend in San Fran. hopefully the sticks are removed from the servicemembers asses this time. other than that the customers were friendly and happy and the food was great. Pros: food, atmosphere, experience Cons: service, employees more

The Gem of the Marina 5/24/2006

I've visited Three Seasons on many occasions. I've returned not only for the food and drink but also the atmosphere and the great staff. Let's start with the Spring Rolls. There is something for everyone. My favorite is the Summer Spring roll. While one other reviewer claimed the sauces were ""terrible"" I find the sauces a perfect compliment and set up for the main courses. That is where the real flavor lies. Now, the courses...Satays ""Cha Ca"" is a perfect delicate white fish. Soups...Dungeness Crab Meat...is great. Small Plates offer a favorite of mine the Saigon Crepe...very nice. Large Plates....I always get the Catfish in a Clay Pot...unbelievable. I hated fried catfish growing up in the South. But this interpretation is amazing...spicy and very flavorful. Don't feel intimidated if you've never tried this food. The staff is very cordial and are more then willing to help you with any recommendations. Pros: food, staff, drinks Cons: noisy w/large tables more

Food is mediocre at it's best 3/13/2006

First of all the sauces are all terrible. Too bland and sweet. We had the Summer rolls with crab = TERRIBLE. Poor quality salty crab, dry rice paper, poorly wrapped, and needs authentic vietnamese leaves like mint. Sweet and Sour Shrimp soup=TERRIBLE. Shrimp potstickers=pretty good, but overly salty. Beef Satay=great flavor and tender. Sorbet Trio, mango was the only decent flavor, the others were freezer burnt. I went once before and thought it was terrible, but I thought I'd give it another shot and it's still terrible. Pros: service, location, variety Cons: food, food, food more

chinese gals gives 3 stars (out of 5) 9/13/2005

i've grown up eating upscale pho, cheap pho, you name it. obviously if you're going to three seasons you're not looking for pho food at pho prices, its located in the marina. our reservation at another restaurant fell through and there was no wait at three seasons so we went in. it was a pleasant surprise, the people were friendly and the ambiance was terrific. the menu was large in selection, small in portion. something i learned the hard way: the pho is actually pad thai! so don't expect wet noodles, cause they're not! Pros: nice ambiance, quick seating, good selection Cons: a bit pricey, small portions, can be crowded/loud more

Great food, noisy atmosphere 4/18/2005

I read the review below, and honestly have never been to the Palo Alto location, so I don't know how they compare. But, here on my thoughts on the one in SF. I've eaten there several times and have learned the ""do""s and ""don't""s. Do expect great food and a friendly staff. The food isn't traditional Vietnamese, but it certainly is good. The potstickers were great, as have been the seabass, shaking beef, and snapper. It's also perfect for big groups because they serve everything family style. However, don't expect quiet; the time we went on a Saturday night, it was quite noisy. Also, there aren't many truly (i.e. no fish) vegetarian options. more

Go somewhere else 4/5/2004

People going here must be there for the crowd and not the food. The food is just decent and very expensive. If you want good vietnamese food for less than half the cost, go to the TL or inner Richmond. The place is just a typical restaurant for the yups, expensive food presented in an ""exotic"" manner. If the people who come here honestly think that this place is that great...........they must not have lived in San Francisco long. I think that most of the people who really think that the food here is that good, have not given themselves the chance to explore the less desirable parts of San Francisco where the food is often better. more

Fabulous Vietnamese Cuisine 9/23/2003

There are not many frills to this destination. The food is exceptionally good and really well priced especially when you consider it is located in the Marina. I have sampled many of the rolls, satays, small plates and entrees and I have never been dissappointed. This is also a good place to try an experimental dish along side of well-known standards. Keep room for dessert as well. Only down side is that it can be a bit crowded and once or twice the server has overlooked something due to the table. Pros: large menu, fresh food Cons: parking more

Good food but loud 9/17/2003

They have so many types of Vietnamese spring rolls- we had the summer roll (crab meat one) which I really enjoyed along with the accompanying sauces. Fried bananas were excellent. I guess it was ""pricey"" for Vietnamese food, but the place is clean, the menu is slightly different, the service was great and the place is in the Marina-I'd rather go here than a hole in the wall. By the time we finished dinner, the place was packed (on a Tuesday) and really really loud. That was the only negative thing for me. more

Excellent ""new"" Vietnamese, but pricey 5/15/2003

Don't be deterred by the editorial review: this is not in a basement, it's right at street level. Over-designed chairs are awkward and goofy looking. Food was excellent: tasty, fresh, generous -- but certainly overpriced especially when compared to nearby Inner Sunset or Richmond restaurants. Dishes that should cost $6-$10 instead cost $9-$20, which is just absurd. Wine list was excellent, reasonable prices. Excellent non-Asian desserts too. Service was quick and helpful. Pros: tasty food, prompt service, large wine list Cons: overpriced, goofy decor more

Amazing Food! 1/24/2003

Everything on this menu is amazing, well thought out and perfectly executed! To compliment the great food, Three Seasons has amazing service. You can't go wrong with this hot spot! Pros: Amazing Food, Unbeatable Service, Great Location more

Wonderful food 11/11/2002

My friend and I had the most wonferful dinner on Saturday night. The spring rolls are to die for and the eggplant is delicous! more

Outstanding & Amazing Food!!! 9/25/2002

I was drawn to this restaurant after a friend from Chinatown(Yau Hing Herbs) gave it a high rating for their wonderful food. With a few friends and their son(4), we dined on Shrimp Potstickers, Chix Satay, Shaking Beef, Red Snapper, Coconut Ice Cream W/ Fried Bananas and to Die For Spider Rolls. This Asian restaurant's pairings of dipping sauces and food makes me believe this chef has talent and wonderful palate! I was discouraged with service or the lack of it. The waitresses and kitchen forgot one dish and did not make any efforts to rectify this at all. How sad! Nevertheless, I would still go back. The Beer 33(Vietnamese) is crisp and has a clean finish. Pros: food/drinks/ppl watch, food/drinks/ppl watch, food/drinks/ppl watch Cons: service/kitchen flaws, lack ventilation, small spaces more

Overpriced! 9/12/2002

Come on now, this is supposed to be Vietnamese food. If you want ""real, authentic"" Vietnamese food at a fraction of the price, go to Aux Dulices on Polk. This is just a trendy place that lures in the Marina crowd. Cons: Rip Off more

One of my Top 5 8/5/2002

An amazin g place for vietnamese/pan Asian, especially when you consider the low prices. Great wine list too! Now if only they could reduce the noise levels a little and let us hear ourselves chew... Pros: Spring Rolls, Inexpensive, Wine List Cons: Noisy more

Flavors galore! 6/16/2002

From the appetizer rolls (so fresh and healthy!) to the chicken curry and dried spicy beans, everything is a treat for the tastebuds. The fish is always fresh and tender, the meat and chicken dishes lean and tasty. Though the food can be a bit on the salty/spicy side, there is certainly an option for everyone. more

Diverse menu - yummy food 5/27/2002

Three Seasons is a joy to have in the neighborhood. The atomsphere is lively and yet comfortable. The menu is extensive and every meal seems to have unique, rich flavors. The plates are small and meant to be shared. If you don't go too crazy, it won't be an expensive meal. The lamb kabobs are my favorite there. We've never made a reservation and seemed to get seated quickly. It is becoming a popular spot though, so that could change. Pros: Big menu variety, Rich food, Good prices Cons: Parking could be toug, Loud if crowded, Might need to reserve more

What more could you ask for? 5/23/2002

I was recomended Three Seasons from a friend. It was a great recommendation. The setting is very nice, the serice was prompt and friendly, the food was presented very well, and most importantly the food tasted great. Three Seasons might not carry the same popularity as the Slanted Door but it is well deserving of the same notoriety. I will definitely return for another visit. more
