poor policy 9/29/2011

will no longer put produce on clearance that is about to go bad--like bananas.people buy them to make banana bread and cakes. Now they will throw them away. This is a very poor store, bad meats and deli. They really don't care about the customer, just the almighty dollar.Go to Dollar General Market on the way out of town and save money and get better treatment! Really less than 1 rating. more

Was called rude because I pointed out I was overcharged ... 7/21/2011

The temp was in the 90s and was expected to be that way for the rest of the week. I thought, hmmm ... ice cream! Went to Thorne's (which I HATE it that they are the only grocery store for miles and miles and miles!) and saw that pints of Haagen Dazs was on sale 2 for $6. Good deal, I thought, so I bought one. Got in the car and checked my receipt and saw I was charged too much. (This happens ALL the time at this store). I went back in to get the difference owed but knew I had to be quick because, like I said, it was scorching and I didn't want it to melt. Plus I had to get back to work. The lady up front was just taking her good old time -- even going back to check that I was telling the truth! -- and time was passing and I had to go, so I said I would take care of it my next trip to the store. Well, the next day I went back and dealt with the same lady who said I was rude because I mentioned that I get overcharged a LOT and I had asked who owned the store. (BTW, she said the owner didn't care about stuff like this. Huh? Stuff like customer relations and accuracy in pricing?) Instead of the store apologizing for the error, I left feeling bad, having been called rude for pointing it out. I think Thorne's sucks. Bottom line. Plus, their produce section is mostly full of rotten stuff. I may buy milk and bread there, but in the future, unless I am desperate, nothing more. more

Don't go in 15 min.before closing. 9/9/2010

Good: Not much on THIS visit.. Bad: An indignant attitude toward the customer,by I assume, the acting management.. Improvements: I would suggest a customer awareness program for employees in need of such training. 'Possibly call it Customer Service and Customer Appreciation #101.. Other: 9/8/10- I stopped in several minutes before closing to receive an indignant look for I assume, having the nerve to walk in so close to closing. It was then announced over the PA that the store was closed. Then the same lady walked back to the doughnut case to inform me that the store was closed. I looked at my watch and asked what time they closed. The response was, "We're closed." Then it was announced over the PA again that the store was closed. I got eight doughnuts and was checked out at 9:52p.m.. more

only store around 10/4/2005

this is the only store in Carrollton. I only go in for the sale items. he does run some pretty good sale items. this week it is folgers' coffee. he is to overly priced on everythingelse. I wanted a item the other day and he was about double what I got it at te drugstore for. I like to shop the dollar stores and drug mart, so have to hit them al to try to help on your grocery bill. i just hate the parking lot and his carryout boys usually don't even ask if i need help. he opened up a pharmacy. but we already have more of them then we need. he just trys to shovel in all the money he can. its almost next to impossible to get a job there. i have tryed several times so has my son and husband. more

The only grocery store in town, unfortunately! 7/29/2005

Thorne's IGA has been a "thorn" in my side for quite some time. They are the only grocery store within 20-30 miles, and the owner takes advantage of that fact by having high priced items. The only thing they do that impresses me is double coupon days, Sundays and Wednesdays. I am an avid coupon shopper, so i get certain items at this store, and travel 60 miles round trip every week to visit another store. Carrollton somehow got themselves into a situation where it is almost impossible for another grocery store to be opened in town. A certain large "supercenter" even tried to purchase property, and the red tape has been enough to make them change their minds. They put in a pharmacy (Why?) and a dry cleaning pick-up service, and to the public, it looks like he wants to monopolize this little town. With a population of a little over 3000, we already had 4 drugstores, and I worked at the local dry cleaners. Consequently, my hours have been cut from 30 hours to less than 15 hours a week. His RX and dry cleaning aren't doing that well, just well enough to annoy the other business owners. more
