I've been going to Leon Valley Veterinary for years. Dr. Meier is always helpful, and when I make an appointment, he is always prompt in seeing my dogs. Since I own Pugs, they have a lot of special issues and I have found Dr. Meier is fair in his evaluations of my dogs at all times, and he never pushes extra meds and has actually saved me some money a few times. The staff there is always pleasant and helpful, always greeting me with a smile. I have absolutely no complaints about the service OR the prices (vets are never cheap, folks...at least Dr. Meier is FAIR). more

The care and compassion My pets and I have received from the Leon Valley Pet Clinic is the best I have experienced in my 45 years as a pet owner. Their No nonsense, fun and friendly approach to care makes the experience less traumatic for my pets and prices for services and products are reasonable and fair. more

I love this vet he is very nice and answered all our questions the women that work at the desk and help are awesome too!! everyone is super nice and just fun to be around. Im glad i found them.. we will be taking our animals there as long as we living here!! I would recommend them to everyone. they were so good with my dog she didnt even realize they gave her a shot. more

I've been bringing my pets (three cats and two dogs) to Leon Valley Vet for several years now. They've handled care all the way from helping diagnose and clean up a rescue dog to having to euthanize a sick cat. The care has been excellent. The office staff are friendly and caring (they all know my voice on the phone because my elderly animals are in so often), and Dr. Meier has always been right there to help with any questions or concerns I've had. He never makes me feel like he's too busy, and rather than try to take over my pet care choices (like some past vets have done), he has been great about talking through the options with me and helping me arrive at my own decisions. The three phone calls I made during the treatment of my fatally ill cat stand out as extraordinary in my mind. Dr. Meier was getting no office fees or other payment for the phone calls, yet he stayed on the phone with me as long as I needed him to while I agonized over what to do. He didn't just provide exemplary care to my pet--he was looking out for my well-being and peace of mind too. That's why Leon Valley Veterinary Hospital is my vet clinic. I wouldn't go anywhere else. more

I went to Leon Valley Veterinary Hostpital for a second opinion on my sick dog. Dr. Meier gave the exam and I felt that he was knowledgable and honest about the illness and possible outcomes. He didn't sugarcoat the facts, but didn't give a doomsday lecture that another vet might give. He was upfront about the cost of the medication and didn't try to push additional tests and expenses that were unnecessary at this point. It is costly to have vet care but I do not feel that my bill was overpriced by any means. I read the other reviews before I chose to take my dog here and I don't agree with the negative reviews. The facility smells like any facility that deals with animals would. The front desk staff and vet tech were very friendly, personable and professional. I imagine that any time a pet owner brings their animal in and gets bad news (obviously things aren't going well if your pet is sick to begin with) they will leave feeling disappointed. It's hard to hear the truth about what is wrong with your pet, but it's life and it's not the fault of the vet clinic. They are doctors, not miracle workers. I left knowing my dog might be in serious trouble, but I also left knowing that he'll have as good a shot as any in the hands of this clinic. more

We have visited Drs Meier and Thompson for almost 10 years and would not go anwhere else. The docs are both very knowledgeable, compassionate and patient ~ I never hesitate to ask as many quesitons I need to because they never seem put off or uncaring. The front desk service is a great compliment to the superior doctor service -- I have never received bad customer serivice ...on the contrary, Janet came out to help me carry in my 2 pet taxis this morning-- I was there even before she opened the office at 7am to drop off our cats-- I dont even think she had time to have her morning coffee yet, but she opened up the office, then came back out to help me carry them in, never making me feel like I was a burden-- when picking them up this afternoon, again I received the stellar service I am accustomed to when checking out-- The afternoon staff explained all costs and it was actually LESS than I expected--- yes, pets do COST MONEY...but you get what you pay for-- and our babies are worth every penny!--by the way, be sure to always check out the sign...this months dental special saved us some cash! Today I went in (like I do every few months for the past almost 4 years) and they said that I have to bring all of my animals in to have the vet actually look at them, which I bring them in once a year they are saying they have no record of this and keep going around in circles. The woman was rude at the front desk and I have never been treated so poorly by any one ever in my life. I had nothing against this vet before today. Horrible office staff. She kept rolling her eyes at me, until finally I got fed up with her and said I am taking my business elsewhere. I can't believe I was treated this way after purchasing a TON of medications from them (I have a lot of animals, foster animals, and work with rescues all over San Antonio). I will be telling all of these rescues, friends, AND family, never to go to this vet again Pros: close to my house Cons: everything else about the entire facility and staff more

I was only here once and would never go back! Walking into the clinic, you can't help but notice the place is very dirty. My dog was only given a brief exam, I then waited for results from a fecal. I expected the vet to come back in and explain the problem, but only the vet tech came in with meds and told me to give the dog the meds. I had to ask what was wrong. The explanation was brief, I'm sure because the tech didn't really know. And, this place is expensive! I was charged $44 for the exam which lasted maybe 2 minutes. Total bill was over $100. Whenever bloodwork is done on a patient, the client is told to call us if they haven't heard from us within 24 hours. Since I can't pull this patients chart to review the specifics, I don't know for sure what the circumstances are. As to sending the patient to an emergency room I don't know what our case load was when this client called. If we can't spend the appropriate time examining and treating a patient the client is instructed to go to the nearest emergency clinic to get the appropriate care when their pet has an emergency. My husband took my cat here when she seemed under the weather, the vet examined her, said she seemed ok but would do some bloodwork to be sure and that they would call with the results. more

The next day she seemed better, but no call from the vets office. We eventually called them in the evening of the next day as she seemed to be getting sick again, however they said there was no doctor in the office and they would need one to call us with the results as they could not read them. The morning after she was in a terrible state, and panicked my husband called them to find out the diagnosis. The doctor was in this time and informed us she had Feline AIDS. I feel it was irresponsible of them not to inform us of her condition sooner - we do not have other cats, but if we did they were at risk, as were the other cats in our neighborhood. After my husband hung up with the vet our cat's illness worsened, and he knew it was time to rush her to the vet's office, he called them again, they said they had no room and that we could take them to the emergency room all the way down on Broadway - not a good solution for a rapidly dying animal. I know there was nothing we or they could do to save her, she deteriorated very quickly, but had we have known even ONE day sooner, we could have made the best of our time with her. They have never called us back to check on her condition, again, I feel highly irresponsible on their part, this is a communicalbe disease which can be fatal, and cause terrible terrible pain. I will never take an animal here, I feel they were un-caring to our emotional and practical needs, and have informed all those I know who keep pets to do the same. more
