Decent hotel with one glaring problem 1/26/2012

Stayed at the Intercontinental for a 10-day period as part of a preliminary house-finding trip for an eventual move to Tampa. Staff was courteous and helpful, the room itself was quite nice. There was one annoying issue related to the room itself - the door barely fit the doorframe. There was at least a 1.5-2.0 inch gap at the bottom of the door letting light in at night and noise. :( Also, the side of the door had far too large of a gap as well. A weird issue but a troubling one. The amenities (pool, workout center, business center, lounge and Shula Restaurant) were all quite decent, so no issues there. HOWEVER, the hotel does have one glaringly huge and super frustrating issue (and one that would lead me to NOT recommend it to most travelers): the wireless internet is simply awful. Slow as molasses on a cold day, frequently disconnecting, and just super under-whelming overall. Plus, the hotel does not offer wired connectivity of a higher speed, like many similarly priced hotels would. I'd give it a 1 out of 10 in this regard. :( I also checked the service on multiple standalone devices just to ensure it wasn't something specific to my computer - same results. Just really, really slow internet. Free is good (as in Free Internet) but when it's this useless, why bother? more

OK hotel, but avoid for an event. 6/4/2005

We stayed here for my brother's wedding. While the hotel itself is fine and the location good, the catering staff did a dreadful job handling my brother's wedding. A few days before the wedding, they moved the location of the ceremony/reception to accommodate another wedding (a horrible thing to do last-minute, it struck me as quite unprofessional). To top it off, they served cold food and delivered terrible service. Apparently they were more concerned about the other wedding reception than with my brother's reception. You can do much better for less money! Pros: nice beds, decent rooms Cons: horrible catering sta more

  • The Scene
This hotel is popular with executive travelers who find the location on busy Kennedy Boulevard ideal. It's a short drive to the city's major business and corporate centers. It also attracts visitors who like red meat--it's home to the up-market Shula's Steak House, where those with hearty appetites get the chance to eat their way to a free meal.

    The Details
The 322 guest rooms offer comfy extras like pillow-top mattresses and shower massagers. They are also work-friendly with high-speed Internet access, voice mail, speaker phones and ergonomic chairs. Bathrooms feature signature toiletries from the Golden Door Bath Care Collection. Along with the steak house, the property also hosts Shula's No Name Lounge, a tribute to the former coach of the Miami Dolphin's celebrated defense. If you're looking for a memorable hotel pool, you've come to the right place. This one is located on the ninth floor and has great views of the city. There is a shoeshine stand in the lobby for pre-meeting primping.
