Good People, Good Prices, Good Produce 12/5/2010

I'm not a one-stop shopper. I know who has the best deals on what, and when, all over town. It should say a lot, then, that I always shop the vegetable bin first before I go anywhere else for produce. Their prices are unbeatable (sometimes half of what H/T asks) and the staff is helpful and friendly. Sure, you might not be able to find a firm kiwi every time you go in there, but that hardly detracts from this fantastic store. more

Not impressed... 6/9/2010

I used to go to the Veggie Bin years ago when I first moved to Charleston, then it started to smell like rotting produce, and lots of the stuff was bad, so I stopped going. I recently heard that it reopened, and I'd forgotten it existed! Yesterday, I made the trip over. Despite the reviews raving about it, I was not impressed. It will be interesting to see what they have during other parts of the season, but the only thing that seemed like a good deal were the peaches, which I could have gotten at the same price from the Pig a few blocks from my home. The greens were mostly wilted, and much of the items seemed very overpriced to me. I will say that the people were very friendly, but there were tons of bugs, and it was rather dirty inside. I will go back to see what they have later in the summer, but so far--not impressed. Rather disappointed, especially since most of the reviews here made it sound very different from what I experienced. more

Affordable Veggies! 4/14/2006

Veggies are a favorite of my family and it is so hard to find them at a reasonable price in the Charleston area. Well, I found great veggies at rock bottom prices here! You do have to watch the quality as they often have some out that I consider past the shelf life, but that's the price you pay to get such awesome bargains. Either my husband or I stop in weekly and have never walked out empty handed and buying veggies here doesn't break the bank! more

Good priced vegetables 10/17/2005

If you can get over the stench of the rotting veggies in this place, and the fact that you may have to dig through those rotting veggies to get to the good stuff, this place rocks! Dirt cheap prices, especially on sun dried tomatoes and cheap sweets by the check outs. Family operated, and friendly. It's not all rotten veggies, but sometimes they keep them around longer than they should. Their prices are outstanding, though, and you can also get locally produced sweets like beney wafers and taffy here for very cheap as well. more

BEST prices & selection hands down 10/7/2005

Wow. Just WOW is all I can say about The Vegetable Bin. It's located at the end of Society Street, right on East Bay St. next to Harris Teeter. Never, ever buy veggies anywhere else but here. Their selection is outstanding and always just as fresh as if you picked it yourself and their prices will amaze you. There's no overhead here and so they don't need to charge you $2.50/lb for tomatoes. They have an amazing selection of fresh meat and dairy products as well, and herbs, spices and other 'novelties' are SO inexpensive here. The thing I love the most is their Sun Dried Tomatoes---normally they run you $5.00 for a tiny little jar of them in the store, but you can get them for SO cheap here, and they're fresh and not smothered in oil and SO inexpensive. more
