Agree with John 100%! Been a member since it opened. It was great, but now it's become a hangout for a rough crowd. They let in hoards of loud rude kids.Monday evening I had to give my workout because of an over crowded training floor. It used to rate as a fine club but now a civic center! more

Editorial review from Citysearch 9/6/2012

The service here is appalling. Have been a member 2 years here now and the staff never seem to remember me. Too many teenagers coming in and out using machines and facilities for a day, acting generally boisterous and disrespectful. Plain and simple, good gyms are hard to find in NYC. more

A great sports complex!! 7/30/2010

The chelsea piers sports complex is one of a kind! There is a lot of activities that you can participate from yoga to swimming to basketball. It's a great place to work out and enjoy the views of the Hudson river. I just feel that it's too big to enjoy it all. Overall a great place and will definitely recommend this to any active people in new york! Pros: So much activities to not get bored. Cons: Too big to enjoy it all more

Pricy and snobbish 11/30/2009

Tried it on the $50 a day membership. Once they checked us in (i.e. took the $$), no one bothered showing us around, handing us towels, or even telling us the way to the lockers etc. When we asked, the attendants seemed to indicate that they were really busy. However it was not apparent doing what. \r \r The reason we tried this place was because we wanted to do some extended lap swimming and their pool has been raved about. The pool did have great views over the Hudson, but our swimming experience wasn’t really the best. I got bummed around from my lane a couple of times, to accommodate other swimmers, and for rather weird reasons. Once - because as per the life guard ""someone 'important' wanted to swim in the middle lane"" and another time because a girlfriend wanted to swim in the same lane her boyfriend. \r \r Can see that the gym has great infrastructure, and the equipment is great. However, our experience wasn’t that great, so we will not be going back again.\r Pros: Great views from the pool; lots of equipment; big size Cons: Snobbish staff; poor lockers more

Nice place, some defects 10/13/2009

For most things Chelsea Piers is the best. However, its price is steep, and its vaunted indoor tracks are not what they say. There is no functioning 400m track--management has let other facilities creep over most of the lanes in the track so you have an oddly shaped 430-450m track instead, with another oddly shaped 220m track on the inside. This is fine for jogging, but not for speedwork. Finally, the location itself means a commitment for several hours just to get in a decent workout--no lunchtime-hour rounds here. Pros: vast range of facilities Cons: expensive, bad tracks, rather distant more

Fantastic Sports Club 3/23/2009

This is an excellent place to leave the city without leaving the city. Great programs for adults to continue in the sports they love and their gym/spa is first class. Hot people too! Pros: Lots of Options, Great Service more

Best value of any gym!! 1/16/2009

As a teacher I am always looking for value. Chelsea Piers offers the best equipment and classes at a great price. The upscale amenities make you feel like you are being treated every time you go to the gym. The clientele is top notch and the cafeteria offers food that is obviously nutritional but on top of that, GOOD! I am excited to stop by the piers for a quick workout or simply spend half a day there on the weekends. I have been a member at other gyms in the city but I routinely grow board of the ""gym"" workout. I have been a Chelsea Piers member for several years now and I continue to find exciting activities. The rock wall is massive and the pool is huge. With a full size indoor track I can get all my workouts in even during the winter months. I have not been brave enough to step in to the boxing ring, but the beach volley ball court offers something for everyone, even a novice like me.\r \r The staff is knowledgeable and unpretentious. I don't feel as though I am being judged every time I try something new. How many gyms can say that. The summer months bring sundeck socials and other chances to meet people. If you are looking for a spot to have a serious workout and maintain motivation, Chelsea Piers will not disappoint.\r \r more

Amazing diversity of activities; okay locker room 5/21/2008

Chelsea Sports Club has unbelievable diversity in terms of its work-out offerings. If you can't find something physical you like to do here, then you should just give up altogether. From a gorgeous Olympic-sized pool, to the squishy 1/4 mile indoor track, to the boxing ring and basketball courts (not to mention, of course, weights and cardio machines), this is definitely a full-service athletic facility. Also, the staff is friendly and helpful, and it never gets overcrowded, even during peak work out times.\r \r The one complaint I have regards the locker room. It is really not that nice. I mean, it's clean, I think, but feels really outdated and a bit run down. If they just upgraded the locker rooms a bit, this place would be perfecto. more

Home away from home/Gym Extraordinaire 3/3/2008

This facility has all the machines, the saunas, the pools, the classes-- including rock climbing, boxing, track, yoga and beach volleyball--that any club might have. But it also has the river, which makes it truly magical. This club is built upon a pier that lurches out over the Hudson, and from every vantage point, a pieceof New York City's western waterway is visible. Imagine a class at dawn, that starts in near darkness and develops as morning light bounces off the water. The cafe is huge, and comes with sushi bar, salads, smoothies, tv screens-- and views of the river. A giant sundeck is open during warm weather, right on the river. There's also a full service spa onsite. So for those who want an extraordinary gym experience, and a real sense of getting away from it all, get yourself over to Chelsea Piers! Pros: classes and equipment; river views; cafe more

The Best GYM Ever! 1/3/2008

If you want to be inspired to be the best you can then join Chelsea Piers Sports Center! I have been a member for seven years and the club just keeps getting better and better. The management is dedicated to keeping the center fresh and they are always adding to their wide array of equipment and activities offered. The pool and sun deck, large rock climbing wall, expansive offering of cardio equipment and the incredible skill set of their trainers and instructors is second to none (their staff is cool and friendly too, even at 5:30am). Chelsea Piers is for those people who want to enjoy life and their workout? and hey after you have worked your body you can indulge in healthy gourmet cafe, stop by their sushi bar or get a manicure or massage from the spa. Chelsea Piers Sports Center is what it is all about! Pros: facility, staff, offering, food, setting, more
