I recently had a facial and massage there and really enjoyed everything. I've needed a good place to go (I'm new to the San Mateo area) and I must say that they were as good, if not better, than many of the spas I've frequented in San Francisco! Highly recommend and definately going back. more

Best place to relax and be pampered at! 10/2/2007

The Spa Studio has a very relaxing ambiance and I have been a regular client for over 5 years. The staff is very knowledgeable about the natural skincare products they use and sell; and have made great recommendations about products for my sensitive skin. One of my favorite packages is called "Make-Me-Over". It includes a massage, facial and a salt glow treatment; the salt glow treatment is given in a beautiful, blue tiled room with candles and soothing music. Once my eyes are shut, my worries disappear and I feel like I am relaxing on a tropical beach. Another treatment that I just discovered is called Siddha Body Detox. With the steam canopy and the detox treatment, I am able to detox, burn up to 600 calories in 1/2 and have soft, glowing skin after the treatment. The Spa Studio cares about the health and welfare of all their customers by using premium products and offering knowledgeable advise. Wendy, the owner of the spa, helps fight cancer by donating a portion of selected services to the Women's Breast Cancer Foundation and Leukemia and Lymphoma Cancer Society. The Spa Studio is conveniently located in downtown San Mateo, and stays open until 8:30 during the weekdays. If you are looking to relax, unwind and get pampered.... Imperfect place for a little get away 2/7/2007

I just received a wax service, massage and scalp massage at Spa Studio. The waiting area is a big part of a day spa experience for me and their area sort of fell short. The ambiance was nice and they had a good assortment of refreshment choices, but it is only separated from the front reception area by a veil, so it is not very secluded and quiet. The chairs are not really relaxing either, but it's pretty. The changing room is a small room with a few lockers. Not very inviting. The shower, restroom and amenities are in another room. Again, it's just a personal preference of mine that there be a nice changing area that includes all the amenities. The services also left much to be desired. I've had waxing done several times and the technician has only had to "wax and pull" one time. It took three painful times. The massage felt rushed and aggresive. When I say aggresive I don't mean that it was deep. I mean that the simple action of turning my head to the side should be smooth and gentle, which it wasn't. I'll probably give the spa another chance for a quick massage, simply because it's close to home and there might be better technicians available, but I would not use it for an indulgent little get-away. Best massage ;) 12/7/2006

OMG, I had such a wonder massage I can't help but want to let the world know! I'm coming off of a really stressful week at work and wanted to do something to take care of myself. Well, they took care of me. I really enjoyed relaxing and sipping of a cup of tea before my massage in my soft robe - I can't believe the difference a massage made. Best waxing & Brazilian Waxing I have received! 11/17/2006

I've been to alot of places for waxing - but this one is it! My ancestry is european and I have alot of hair so waxing services are important to me. I received a brazilian wax, a 1/2 leg and underarm wax - it was almost pain free - if there is such a thing with waxing. They use this purple wax - the best! I'm now a regular there and I highly recommend it! I always enjoy a cup of tea before my service too - it's very relaxing!! poor customer service 7/25/2006

I went to this spa to get my legs waxed. The technician did not know what she was doing and was asking me advice on how to wax. She took much longer than normal and left me bruised and bleeding. To make things worse, the owner kept interrupting to hurry up the technician because she was taking too long and her next apt. had arrived. I would never go back to this place, it is overpriced and has extremely poor customer service. Pros: nice ambient Cons: overpriced more

My massage at the Spa Studio was just heavenly. My therapist was very skilled in her profession, actively listened to me as I listed my areas of focus, and continued to deliver a superb service. I found her to be both friendly and professional. The Spa Studio is also very clean and esthetically pleasing. more

Spa's not just for women 5/30/2006

I received a gift card to the Spa Studio. As a man who never went to a spa before I enjoyed everything about it. The friendlyness, the atmosphere, I never felt so comfortable and at home. The treatment I received (a facial and message) was terrific. So for all you women out there that don't know what to buy your husband, boyfriend, or father I highly recommend a gift card and why not go with them and do a couple's treatment. Enjoy. Pure bliss! 5/23/2006

The Spa Studio is among the best spa experiences I have ever had (I have been to many spas, including Canyon Ranch, Grand Wailea, Four Seasons, The Claremont, etc) The treatment rooms and relaxation area were beautifully appointed and very clean. The staff (I had 3 treatments) was warm, friendly, professional and accomodating. From the moment I walked in I felt welcome, relaxed and pampered. The pedicure was the best I have ever had! You need to try this place!!! 5/22/2006

After trying many spas over the past couple of years and finding myself disappointed each time, I was about ready to give up on trying to "pamper" myself. However, on my last try, I discovered this wonderful spa!!! The atmosphere is so calming that you will want to fall asleep at the door. Plus, the receptionists and other staff were so hospital, offering everything from snacks, and drinks to extra pillows. No other spa has even came close to this one and it has restored my faith in the spa experience. Pros: friendliest staff, snacks and drinks, relaxing vibe Cons: none! more

We were in good hands! 3/25/2006

I knew we were in good hands when I booked treatments for five of us for a pre-wedding splurge with the bride-to-be. We all checked in at the same time and were relaxing in the intimate waiting room in our cushy terry robes and slippers. Then all the staff came in, lined up, called our name, and took us to the treatment rooms for the best deep tissue massages and facials. Wow, I'm not one to write reviews, but my experience at the Spa Studio was outstanding! From the moment I walked in the door, I felt my stress-filled day leave. The overall environment of the Spa Studio, from the retail area, lounge (so relaxing), technicians, aroma, and service, provides one with an a mini "get-away." Plus, the size of the spa is very intitimate. You don't feel like lost like in the larger spa concepts-rather very special. This is a rare Bay Area find indeed! more

Wow - what a great spa experience! 1/17/2006

I've been to several spas and this one pleasantly surprised me. Talk about a tranquil environment with an ambiance that made me want to spend my entire day there. I had a facial where they customized it for me - I haven't had that before. My sister said her massage was so relaxing that she feel asleep towards the end. It was nice just to hand out in their lounge before getting dressed. We will definately go back to enjoy more spa services (so many to choose from)....can't wait! more
