Great Service & Dessert, Not-So-Good Food 8/20/2009

We had higher expectations of The San Franciscan, but they did not deliver. Service was super but our entrees were a fail. The Ahi Tuna was overpeppered and the Asian Scallops were served in a bland, watery sesame-ginger sauce. The rice was overcooked, but the green beans were spectacular...and so was the Rockslide Brownie we shared for dessert! Pros: Rockslide Brownie, Green Beans, Service Cons: Seared Ahi Tuna, Seared Asian Scallops more

I Don't Recommend the Ahi Tuna or Asian Scallops 8/19/2009

EXCELLENT service, great food, perfect place to host a partyf 1/19/2009

We hosted my son's baptism here last Sunday for lunch and us along with ALL of our guests enjoyed their dishes. The service went above and beyond to make our occasion perfect. My husband and I had high standards into picking a restaurant in Walnut Creek that could not only accommodate our large party, but serve delicious food also. We tried 5 (yes 5) restaurants and we always ended up comparing them to the San Franciscan. The service was excellent, the food was great, the price was the most reasonable- while we were getting quotes of almost $58/person not including an additional fee for room reservation, the San Franciscan came in at almost half the price and didn't charge for room reservations. They always worked with us to satisfy our needs. Pros: Parking in the back of the restaurant available at no additional cost more

A wonderful restaurant 5/22/2007

I visited the San Franciscan for the first time this last weekend and I must say I was very impressed with the selection, the level of service and quality of food. The staff was very courteous and the food was amazing. I have already recommended the restaurant to my friends. I will be returning customer. Pros: Excellent food and bar selection, food was amazing, service was outstanding. more

Great food, Great drinks, Great service! 5/20/2007

My wife and I love coming here for the great food, drinks and service. My 12 year old daughter says they have the best Calamari around. I have tried several meals so far and loved all all of them including the flat iron steak, ravioli, chinese chicken salad, stuffed pepper and too many more to list, but my favorite so far was the prime rib special with mash potatoes and the best gravy ever! more

Aviod at all costs 5/14/2007

Went to the San Franciscan for a special occasion and was treated very badly. I was embarrassed, lied to, yelled at, called a liar, and had the meal ruined, all by the owner. The food was mediocre. I will never come here again and discourage others from dining here as well. Cons: Horrible service more

NOT RECOMMENDED: Customer does not come first here... 5/14/2007

I recently had a horrible experience at The San Franciscan. I had requested indoor seating at the time I had made my reservations and upon arriving, was taken to an outdoor table. When I mentioned my request, I was told that there were not any tables indoor despite the fact that there were four open tables within view that were large enough to fit our party. I was told those tables were for other people who had made reservations and seating us there would disrupt the ""flow"" of the servers. I responded that they would rather have unhappy customers than disrupt the flow, and was told that it would cause the other customers to be disrupted. In other words, those ""other"" customers were more important than myself, even though I was granted a reservation. The person with whom I was speaking turned out to be the owner, and told me she took my reservation herself and basically said I was lying about requesting indoor seating. In any other situation, I would have left the restaurant, but it was Mother's Day and did not want to have to leave and find another place to go, my immediate family in tow. After arguing with me, the owner finally agreed to seat us indoors and slapped the menus on the table without a word. It comes as no surprise that nobody was ever seated in the remaining open tables and the restaurant was 75% empty upon us leaving an hour later. I dine out a minimum of four nights a week and have never received such poor customer service, especially at the hands of the owner. I will never eat here again and have already told my friends, family, and co-workers to avoid this restaurant. Cons: Horrible customer service, Rude owner, Treated poorly more

Delicious Margaritas, outdoor patio dining is shaded & serene! 5/2/2007

Heard about the beautiful patio, and I had a couple of margie's why I waited for my girlfriend at the bar. Excellent (house made) sour mix, and a LARGE selection of top shelf liquor to choose from. We were seated promptly (I think by the owner) outside next to a wall fountain that seems like it could have been shipped over from Thailand. Our server recommended the Cioppino which was delicious, and I had the Flat Iron steak cooked to temperature, but a little overdressed with the Chimichurri sauce. Friendly staff & bartender, and family-owned which is always plus. Definitely worth a try. Pros: Full Bar, Outdoor Patio Cons: Too much chimichurri on my steak. more

Best Steak I have had since moving here from Nebraska!!! 3/30/2007

I have been to The San Franciscan twice now. The first visit at lunch for a quick burger fix, and I enjoyed the Bleu Burger, mid-rare temp, juicy & touched with excellent fries and homemade slaw on the side. Squigged down about three ice teas, and then bounced back out into the Walnut Creek sunshine. The next visit (for dinner) I took some time to enjoy the ambiance, and I ordered the NY Steak I previously spotted on the menu. For appetizer I ordered the Ahi Tuna Poki, which as a native Nebraskan, I have come to love as part of my left coast lifestyle. The only thing that could have made the Poki more Authentic tasting would have been a beachfront view of Maui from my table. Next my steak, which again was cooked at a perfect medium rare (pink in the middle temp) and instead of rice or baked potato, I jumped on the steak fries with a side of ranch for dipping. I left The San Franciscan that night thinking about how much my Dad & Grandfather (were he still alive) would have loved this place, the owner, and the general vibe. For you steak lovers!!! Don't miss an opporrtunity to eat at my new favorite place in WC! Pros: Outdoor patio, cute servers, GREAT DRINKS! Cons: I live in Oakland more

AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!!! 2/17/2007

This place was very slow for a friday night....and I soon found out why. We waited at the front desk and nobody even acknowledged us for a few minutes. We were seated outside, but they couldn't even get the heaters to work. We weren't asked for drink orders at all!!!! The waitress was slow, unattentive, and got our orders wrong. I had the spaghetti, and it was repulsive....i give this place about 3 months until it goes under....i will NEVER be going back here again Pros: ambience Cons: poor service, bad food, bad value more

Simply said - the beef and chciken were overcooked and dry and the service was not up to par. The spring rolls were fair. Sat outside which was somewhat cramped. Next time to authentic Vietnamese food. Would not recommend to anyone. more

Not worth it! 6/18/2005

Poor service, average food, and pretentious pricing. With most dishes costing more than $10 (even for "small plates"), they're charging upscale San Francisco restaurant prices for essentially the same type of food that's available for at least 1/3 less at Chinese/Vietnamese/Thai restaurants in San Francisco neighborhoods like the Sunset and Richmond. $12 for a relatively small portion of pad thai? $8 for "traditional" Vietnamese fresh pork/shrimp spring rolls? Gimme a break. But at these prices, they should at least change silverware with each course. Our waitress was clueless about the menu. I even had to stop our waitress from taking away an unfinished dish. Our over-eager waitress eventually prevailed and took away my half-filled glass of beer. Three Seasons is good enough for East Bay surburbanites who don't care to venture out to San Francisco for good, authentic food at reasonable prices. more

I usually go to the Three Seasons in San Francisco at least once or twice a week. It is just the coolest place to meet up with friends. The Ambience is fun and the food is delicious. Nice and light. I was thrilled to find the same restaurant in Walnut Creek. Of course, I did not hesitate to go. It was just as great. I would recommend this restaurant to everyone. Proportions are good. Service is good. Food is great. What more can one ask for? more

delicious food - ahi spring rolls, happy buns (not at all what you'd expect - the "bun" is like a thick wrap folded over), seasame crusted scallops and fried bananas - coupled with great service, beautiful decor. plus they have a nice outdoor dining area (the only one that I know of like it in the area)... this place is going to be huge...would like to keep it all for myself but it's too good. great value. wonderful cuisine. Pros: delicious food, variety, decor & ambience more
