As good as it gets! 1/13/2012

The Salty Paw - for doggy day camp, grooming and as a boutique - is as good as it gets. My guy has been a regular there for a few years now and I would never consider letting him spend his time or get groomed anywhere else. Judging by the way he sprints to get there (not an easy task for a 63 pound English bulldog), I'm confident he'd say the same thing! The doggy day camp and store staff are incredible, sweet, patient, kind and treat each dog like their own. May, the groomer, is a true gem. We've recently moved about an hour and a half north of NYC and I continue to bring my guy in at least once a week for day camp and grooming, so I can honestly say that we would absolutely not go anywhere else...it's worth the trip! more

Excellent dog groomer 2/14/2011

This is my first time writing a comment. I have a mini poodles and had tried virtually every groomer in the City when I found May at The Salty Paw. My dogs finally stopped ""putting the brakes on"" for grooming day, which told me right away that something was different. The haircut was perfect -- just what I asked for--I highly recommend May Groomer not only for their amazing haircuts but for the whole experience. You can always tell the people who really love animals .The shop is clean Plus the grooming stations are right out in the open so you can actually watch the animals getting their haircuts-it's just like a hair salon. The friendly, hard-working staff is also impressive and really nice to the dogs. more

Impressive service! 10/25/2010

I have a Shisu dog that is very naughty. I brought her to this grooming place about two weeks ago and was very impressed by the service they provided us there. I usually very busy working and doesn't have much time to brush my dog's hair. As a result, her hair always matted. When I brought her there, I asked the head groomer, May, whether we should rematted her hair or should we just shave it. She suggested that we should cut them because rematted the dog's hair is usually painful for the dog. Also, shaving her hair off might help she feels more comfortable. Even though my dog might look ugly, I chose to shaved her hair off regarding May's advice. All the staff here treated my dog gently with a lot of cares. There's no hitting, slapping like the other grooming places. It turn out to be awesome! My dog loves it and she just running around like a happy kid. . I also think it is cool to have a shorted-hair dog sometimes. The most impressive service here was the offering of free brush out on my next visit. May said that I could bring my Shisu in next month and she will teach me the correct way to brush her hair with less time consuming. I really, really appreciated her help. Although the grooming place is kind of small, but I really like the way they set things up in their shop. The warm color of the wall and music that they put on, I just love it! My dos is happy and seems to love her new haircut. I would recommend dog lovers to go to this place 'cause it won't disappointed you in any way more

Best Grooming Spot for all Dogs 10/23/2010

My dog Bear is very friendly, but does not like to be left at grooming spots at all. But since we started taking her to The Salty Paw she loves going to get groomed. We have had her trimmed and puppy cut there and they couldn't be more thorough with the consultation before she gets groomed. And every time I pick her up she is happy and looks amazing! Perfectly happy every time!!! They have a tremendous staff that is so friendly and helpful with everything as well. My puppy means everything to my husband and I and I recommend The Salty Paw to anyone who wants the best for their dog. more

I am the Owner of The Salty Paw 10/22/2010

I am the owner of the Salty Paw and I would like to respond to this upsetting report from the dissatisfied client with the chow. I have tried to reach out to her privately to discuss this matter but unfortunately we have not heard from her. I now feel compelled to address these statements publicly because the circumstances and result that have been reported by this chow owner are not only false and very upsetting to all of us at the Salty Paw, but to our many loyal and concerned clients. more

Halloween contest Beware 10/21/2010

took my chow chow on 10./16 she was last years halloween contest winner. I took her in to be groomend. She was never bathed. Her ears were dirty. She was shaved...who shaves a chow chow. When May the groomer kept saying my dog had her hair matted here and there it should have been a red flag. I asked her to groom my dog not shave her, She looks horrible and she was also in a lot of pain. She could not walk and looked so sad it broke my heart. Yes she is a chow chow but any reputable groomer should know how to work with any type of dog. This is my second time taking my dog there. The first time she looked beautiful(this groomer no longer there). This last time May and the the grooming crew left my dog traumatized. I will never let anyone(groomer) touch her again. She won the contest last year and if they are so money hungry they should have told me they decided not to take in my dog. My poor dog was there for 5 hours and ended looking like a mess and they did not bathe her clean her ears. Shame on the groomers and shame on the owner! Why are you offering prizes you are not honoring???? more

Excellent dog groomer & boutique 4/1/2010

I've been living in the financial district for a year and finally found a groomer that's worth coming back to over and over and over again! May is a really talented groomer. My dog loves her. It's a perfect cut every time. And once we came back from a muddy, rainy hike upstate. His fur was in knots and tangles. One trip to The Salty Paw and she restored him... just like new! She is great with dogs. Other offerings here are a doggy day care which I haven't tried and some high end toys and supplies, and wholesome all-natural treats. Bottom line this is a great neighborhood boutique with excellent groomers. Pros: May is a talented groomer more

Great groomer! 8/2/2009

I took my 6 month old Maltese Snowball to get groomed. The woman was very sweet and asked lots of questions before she took him in back. They have glass doors where you can view your dog being groomed and i looked in and he was happy and giving kisses to the groomer. He normally is shy around new people but really took to the groomer. I was pleasantly happy with how he looked after. It was exactly what i wanted and she even added a bandanna for the finishing touch. I will be taking him back regularly. The staff was also very informative and helpful without being pushy. I even got samples of doggy cologne and some treats. I am so glad i found them! PAWS UP for the SALTY PAW! Pros: cute shop, great selection & excellent groomer more

Just found this place on Peck Slip 7/30/2009

Interesting place, my dog loved it, we don't have alot of dog places near us, I have lived down here for months and didn't know it was there. This was a great find, i recommend checking it out. I had my two dogs groomed there, and bought some Lolli-pups, really cute and the dogs flipped over them. Pros: Daycare for Dogs more

Really cute Dog Store near Brooklyn Bridge 7/29/2009

Took my little Maltese-Gracie in, and wanted a really specialty cut called a lamb cut, and May the groomer there did a really great job. I haven't found a place downtown that could even come close. The store is really cute, lots of unique collars, and these really cool beds that you can pick your colors. I ordered one for Gracie with her name on it. Really like this place I will be going back. Highly recommend it. Pros: loved the grooming and the treat selection Cons: none that i can find more

A nightmare experience with Eric the groomer 6/5/2009

I drop-off my puppy with specific instructions for the groomer. AND, the groomer had ensured me that my dog will be ready in time for me to catch my train back home for the weekend. It took the groomer 5hours just to groom my 5lbs puppy. And now, I hardly recognize my dog AND I missed the off-peak train AND the groomer was so VERY RUDE when I complained. Eric is exceptionally rude, very dramatic and didn't even offer to give any discount or offer an apology...the owner had to apologize for his behavior. I really don't think I'm going back there, though their other groomer- May did a good job the last time. Pros: The owner- courteous Cons: ERIC- the Groomer from hell more

Happy Groomers! 11/4/2008

Finally!!! A place that I will take my dog to get groomed. The groomer did a wonderful job and when I asked her to fix the face a little she didn't give me an attitude like the groomer did at The Poochie Place. The package price is great too, it includes teeth brushing which not a lot of other places do. Their merchandise are unique and cute and very reasonably priced. Great place to get gifts and treats for your pets. Pros: Happy groomers, cute store, great selection of items, good value more

Great dog groomers, great ownership 4/8/2008

Been to many other groomers in my day but since I have been in the downtown area, I have yet to be as happy as I am with The Salty Paw. From their great pet products to the way they make my pooch look to the friendly owners, I really must give them a big pat on the back! Pros: Pet products, grooming skills, ownership more

Best dog spa in NYC....paws down!!!!!! 4/8/2008

The Salty Paw is one of the best dog spa's in NYC. They are so great that I travel with my pooch from the UES. The service is amazing and I LOVE their merchandise. They have the greatest toys, accessories, sweaters and treats. My dog loves going there and gets so excited in the cab because she knows she's in for a treat!! The additional cab expense is well worth it since their prices are amazing compared to what I have paid for similar items on the UES. Eric, the groomer, is the greatest and genuinely loves animals! Pros: Great staff. Great grooming and spa services. Awesome merchandise! Cons: Wish it was closer! more

Best grooming, cool merchandise, amazing service with a smile 4/8/2008

I've been a regular customer since The Salty Paw opened their doors and I can tell you from experience that this place is a hidden gem. Grooming is always excellent, on time, reasonably priced and best of all.... they always give me back a happy dog! They also have great merchandise. Stuff I cant find anywhere else. Also, the girls that work there are awesome! Very nice addition to the neighborhood. Pros: Best grooming! Unique product selection. Amazing staff. Very clean. Cons: Wish they had one of these places for humans! more

OK Pet Store - Terrible Grooming 4/3/2008

I live just north of Peck Slip and I thought the Salty Paw was a cute store with a great selection. Liked their merchandise, but everything seemed really overpriced. I noticed they had grooming. I had my partner take our Maltese in for a basic cut.. When he went to pick her up she was cut way too short and seemed terrified!! I would not recommend getting your dog groomed here. Pros: Good Selection Cons: Terrible Dog Grooming, Too Expensive more

Terrible Dog Grooming 4/1/2008

After reading the many positive reviews here, I took my dog in to get groomed, and they did a very poor job. It took too long and my dog looked awful. I will avoid this place in the future. Cons: Expensive and Bad Dog Grooming more

Neighborhood haunt & social venue for dog-types, Enthusiastic local owners and pet lovers 3/27/2008

I've lived in the neighborhood for 12 years and I've got to say that the Salty Paw was a needed addition to the neighborhood. Pros: Outgoing local owners, Cool digs with a casual seaport vibe, Dog-related events, Treats! Cons: My dog really wants to whiz on the planters by the door. ;) more

The only groomer where my dog leaves happy! 3/16/2008

We used to live in the Financial District and took our collie (loooong hair, tough to groom) to pretty much every groomer in the neighborhood, trying to find a good one for her. She is very skittish and generally comes home depressed. We were PLEASANTLY SHOCKED at how happy she was after her first visit to The Salty Paw! I think she wanted to stay there and hang out, whereas she's usually running for the door. And the grooming job was great, she looked beautiful and wasn't just shaved short like some give-up groomers will do. We have moved to the UWS, but still drive her downtown to go to The Salty Paw, despite a Biscuits & Bath that is right around the corner from us. She is just so happy there, and the groomer is fantastic. It is worth mentioning as well that it is a great value - they definitely don't overcharge. And the shop itself is a great little posh place to pickup treats for your pup. Its like SoHo's Doggie Style at the seaport. Pros: High-quality grooming at a good value Cons: None! more
