Although people appreciate comments about establishments in the Portland Metro area, yours were truly hateful and full of contempt. You obviously have a personal issue with her, ...

The owner of the place is cooky, cool and friendly with an razor wit edge. You want to like her but then I've seen her chase people down (literally) for not leaving a tip for her ...

Comfortable Diner 7/1/2007

My boyfriend and I came here after romping around The Pearl on a friday night trying to find some good food. We have a passion for little hole in the walls and this diner, 2 blocks north of The Pearl caught our eye. The food wasnt ""spectacular"" by any means, but was definitely tasty. The people in the restaruant were friendly and I thought the waitress was very nice. There were lots of interesting things to look at on the walls and plenty of conversation starters.\r Its one of those places that you'll hate or love it. I say try it before you judge it. Pros: Fun enviroment, variety of food- Cons: Average taste more

Prompt service, good food, caring staff. A place to go with friends or make friends! 6/10/2007

Many restaurants referred to as an institution serve institutional food, but this can't be said of The Roxy. An established menu offering something for everyone from meat eaters to vegetarians alike. The staff is friendly, and they go out of their way to make sure you're happy with your meal. I recommend the bacon double cheeseburger as the best burger in Portland! All menu items are served 24 hours a day, and for those on a budget they even serve single pancakes. I can be a picky eater at times, and the restaurant has always accommodated special requests without a fuss getting the order right on the first try. Pros: Tasty food, quick service, friendly atmosphere Cons: No American cheese (boo!) only cheddar or swiss more

The Roxy can cure any hangover 2/22/2007

I live in NW Portland and frequent the Roxy. Anytime late night partying has got me down, I can go to the Roxy, have a huge, grease-dripping meatburger and feel right again. I have had almost everything on the menu but I certainly have my favorite: The Avocado Cheeseburger with a side of fries and chocolate milk. Also, the Lord of the Fries (a massive plate of fries covered in chili and cheese) is a great snack to split with a friend or two. They give you a small carafe of coffee when you order coffee which greatly appeals to a caffiene junkie like myself. As for the service, they have always been friendly to me and my friends. Chris and April especially are very friendly and will come and chat with me when they aren't too busy. My only complaint about the Roxy is that they are closed on Mondays, because when you've had ""a case of the Mondays"" you really need the Roxy. This is a total greasy spoon and not a place you're going to find ""high dining"" but it's absolutely one of my most favorite places to go. Pros: Open 24 hours, greasy hangover curing food, some yummy veggie options, lots of coffee Cons: Closed on Mondays more

Used to be better 1/5/2007

I used to go to the Roxy after late night concerts and things would get crazy with all the drunks in there. It was a grand time. The food wasn't too bad either. The last time I was in there after a concert, we actually got in troubled for being too loud. Since when are you not able to have group karoake in a dive at 2 in the morning? \r The food went downhill, and the service is scary sometimes. I might still go if I really needed a late night dose of grease. Pros: OPen Late Cons: Scary service more

if youre a first timer, take someone with you 11/10/2006

I?m afraid of the food, sometimes afraid of the staff. But when its late coffee is coffee and there are lots of glowy, shiny things to look at. And besides, hot fryer oil kills everything, right? Pros: if everyone was the same life would be boring Cons: the staff is angry, be prepared. more

A Classic that Helps Define Portland 10/6/2006

I'm dating myself wildly here but wish that kids today had the total Toots Empire to enjoy like we did. Back in the 70s The Roxy used to be the late night, edgier sister restaurant to more familial (and I use that in the larger sense) Hamburger Mary's. Hamburger Mary's was the place my high-school friends and I could go (we didn't know we were goth then, the phrase hadn't been coined) and drink coffee and feel like we had a place to call home because gay was just coming out and everyone who was positive and weird was welcome to the party around Toots. I have no idea what happened to him, if he has anything to do with this one still but his innovative stamp and inclusiveness is still a hallmark. The food is fine, but the decor and the people spell out one of the best parts of Portland, the willingness to be downhome, funky and have a very cheeky sense of humor. If you have out of town visitors, take them here if nothing for coffee in a busy day. They'll never wonder why there are ""Keep Portland Weird"" stickers and why that's a good thing. Pros: atmosphere, fun, down home food Cons: The focus isn't as much on the food quality as it used to be, but that's a high standard more

What is Portland? 4/25/2006

You could almost miss the place walking by. The decore is what jumps out at you first, everything from the toasters with flowers growing from them, to the life-size Jesus complete with cross and halo looming over the tables. It screams Portland. The service is bad, but I wouldn't change it. I always find it a delight to talk with friends over the bad service here, it's expected, that's what makes it even better. The hours are incredible, I can actually find a place to get coffee after midnight. The food is your average American dine, burgers and cheese fries a cheap and must have. The price is what always keeps me coming. Overall this is a neat place to come and chill with friends, there is no rush, and is a great place to people watch. If you are looking for Portland, you found it at the Roxy. Pros: Atmosphere, Price, Food Cons: Service more

Greasy-24 hour-spoon 3/22/2006

Really, the location and its hours are the Roxy's fine points. If you're looking to soak up some carbs, with friends downtown, the Roxy is your spot... but don't go looking for fine food here. more

COME ON 2/4/2006

When my friends say ""LETS GO TO THE ROXY!"" I'm usually ""ok, but I hate how rude they are"" now its just going to be ""NO!"". The last time I was there my friend and I were sat at a table that wouldn't stop rocking. There were 2 tables by us empty so we asked to move. The guy told us we would have to ask our waiter (rudly) and walked away. One min later he sat someone in the table we wanted then when we finaly got our waiters attention the guy seating people sat someone in the other table. We just left. The guy who couldn't take 3 sec. to re-seat us chased us half way down the block to ask if we were leaving... OF COURSE WE ARE. Pros: open 24hrs Cons: service, service, service more

The Roxy Kicks Ass 8/14/2005

Not your run of the mill stuck up yuppie chow place. The staff rocks and the food is great. Not a place for the snobbish. They have the best italian sodas in town! Pros: great food, kick ass staff, great italian sodas more

You have to be crazy to complain 6/27/2005

DARLING there is nothing a little grease can't fix. The Roxy is the greasest of them all, not overtaken or mimicked this sexy litttle cafe is best for late night eating and a good filler before you shut your weightly little eyes after a long night partying. The service is fabulous if you tip the first time or leave a nice big fatty of one at least once. there for friends and magazines and books nothing quite compares to this humble little cafe with a soul that would make any diva feel like a pheasant. Pros: Food, Price, Atomosphere Cons: MONDAYS!!!! more

one of my favorites in portland 6/13/2004

The food is good and cheap. Everything has got an interesting name. i'd recommend the bikini kill stack. its awesome, three huge pancakes full of blueberries, topped with strawberry sauce and whipped cream. very good omlettes. great ambience if thats your kind of scene, or if its not it could still be a fun people watching experience. variety of good music on the jukebox. some good vegetarian options. if you don't go expecting more than what it is (cheap 24hr diner) you will not be disappointed. i found the staff to be very friendly. i like it more during the day when its less crowded Pros: great music, inexpensive, 24 hr Cons: , closed mondays more

Friendly and fun 6/6/2004

I began my bachelorette party with breakfast at the Roxy. Although they don't take reservations, I called ahead of time to let them know 11 people were showing up, and they set us a table and were very patient when we had to push back the time by half an hour. The employees were friendly and hospitable, the food was good enough to please a diverse crowd, the prices were reasonable and the atmosphere was interesting and fun. We were all very happy with the place and plan to go again. Pros: Friendly staff, Great food names, Laid back atmosphere more

Good food, bad service 3/25/2004

The food here is great if you're looking for greasy late night diner food. The service however is terrible. The waiters and waitresses always seemed stressed by the crowds and often take this out on customers. I used to put up with their attitude because the food is so good. It's just not worth it anymore.. too many bad experiences. Pros: Cheap, Good Food Cons: , Often slow service more

if you want classy go to ruths 12/18/2003

ok, first off if you want great service there are one of two things you can do, first go somewhere else, theres a reason the main review for this says joined a punk band, and second thing you can do is TIP, for gods sakes, if you tip they remember, as i recall TIP means ""to insure prompt service"" even if thats not exact its still a rule, so follow it or go elsewhere. we tip well and get seats before everyone in line, imagine that. Pros: great atmosphere, alternative crowd, trannies Cons: lame asses, preppy kids more

How could you ever go back to Denny's 11/5/2003

I don't understand how food in less than 10 minutes could ever be considered bad service. The Roxy was my favorite place in high school, i emptied my bank account once entirely on The Roxy. Living in a small college town makes The Roxy seem like the coolest place on earth, and it could possibly be. Pros: inexpensive, amusing atmosphere, street kids Cons: , street kids more

Roxy a Go Go... 9/20/2003

Well, I guess there IS no accounting for taste! I read all 25 of these reviews and only found 3 dislikes! This has got to be one of Portland's bets 24 hrs. dining spots simply because it encompasses everything Potlandia! For those who are looking for upscale trendy locale, move to NYC!!! This is Hippie Town, laid back, in your face attitude, and you can't handle it! From the first time I got taken there at like 3 am on some weekday- I fell right in love with it! I have taken many a friend there! The baby bottle creamers just slay me! It's total Kitsch Quentin Tarrentino! Pay no mind to the beggers & trannies- they all live here too! Pros: Great menu, lotsa cool decor, local color Cons: downtown parking, trendy wannabees more

Simple food like mom used to make 8/18/2003

We were frustrated with the gourmet restuarants in Portland. Luckily we found the ROXY. Cheap, simple, laid back fare. The crowd that frequents this place is a little rough and slightly youngish. Your typical middle class/middle aged tourist be warned. If you like edgy and trendy. They have a 12 foot jesus hanging on the wall. This is Portland. The dirt, and the nost so pretty side. If ya want pretty head over to Mc Cormicks and Schmidts. Good food, friendly staff , a large menu. Pros: Cheap, Simple Food Cons: A little dirty, More youngish crowd, Not for the boring more

Best! 5/27/2003

Best 24 hour restaurant in Portland. Head and shoulders above hotcake house, and totally destroys denny's et al. As far as where to go monday nights at 4AM, the only think i can think of is Banning's. Pros: hours, food, decor Cons: downtown parking more

Depending on what appeals to you... 4/2/2003

This isnt an evereybody type of resteraunt, and overall not my type. While the food is diner-style delicious the service and atmosphere lacks some. Come around in the evening and you'll encounter a small horde of smokers (not always smoking just cigarettes) stationed out front; upon walking in you might find dirty looks thrown your way by chain-adorned teens to 20-somethings. The service is at best slow, at worst downright rude under the guise of having a stylish ""attitude"". Pros: good food, inexspensive Cons: service more
