I've been surprised reading some negative comments, in which I cannot agree or relate with one bit. Sure the restaurant is a little rough around the edges (appearance wise), but ...

Worst

i do love the sandwiches! i still think that moochie's and joni's cafe are better, but do like going to the philadelphian for variety. but i am treated so rudely on the phone and ...

HORRIBLE!!! 8/27/2011

if I could give less than one star I would! The food is mediocre at best but the place is seriously the most disgusting restaurant I have ever set foot in. The kitchen doesn't look like it has ever been cleaned which is scary to begin with. The floors and tables and trash cans and any other surface are covered in old food. There were tons of bugs flying all around and the 2 guys making the food were rude and disgusting looking. They both looked as if they hadn't showered in a week and hadn't washed their sweatpants in weeks. They had sweat stains and holes in all their clothes. I actually fear for my health after eating there. The Philly is a joke of a Philly but didn't taste TO horrible I suppose but definitely not worth risking it to taste. This place is so disgusting I'm calling the health dept on Monday to report them! Do not eat here!!! more

The WORST philly cheesesteak joint in Utah 7/4/2011

Like I said on my headline,..the worst cheesesteak place, I have ever been to. I have been to many joints like this before, all over the country and today my wife and I got a tip from a friend to try the Philidelphian out. She raved how great the food was so, we gave it a shot. When we walked in and looked around, our first impression was not that good. The paneled celings had yellow water stains all over the place, the carpet was beat with an inch of its life, walls were filthy, no music and the staff appeared as if they could care less about the customers. Basically the place needed a major overhaul. Once we got our food (two simple philly cheesesteaks), I looked at it and said to my wife..."why does this meat look different?..."This is'nt steak, it's ROAST BEEF!" I was very dissapointed and so was my wife. The sandwich tasted so-so. When getting ready to leave, I asked the guy behind the counter for a bag to put the other half of my sandwhich in (feed to the dog) and confirmed that it was roast beef, when he started to slice a block of meat in a deli-slicer. To sum it up...if you guys want a GOOD Philly Cheessteak, go to "Moochies" in downtown SLC. They were on the TV show, "Diners-Dives and Drive-ins", so you know it's gonna be good. Oh, and on a last note, I won't be taking anymore tips from this friend, when it comes to food. more

One of the Best! 3/2/2011

I've been surprised reading some negative comments, in which I cannot agree or relate with one bit. Sure the restaurant is a little rough around the edges (appearance wise), but certainly not taste wise. The Philidelphian is a great little hole in the wall. Although I can't say that I've tried the all of the mouth watering, variety of subs, sometimes you've just got to stick with what you know, 'The Philly', starting with the bread, soft fluffy, good overall good flavor and the perfect thickness to handle the abundance of meat, that somehow they get into it. The flavor of the roast beef, is very exceptional, perfect seasoning and the thinness of the slices make it 'melt in your mouth', it's always made to order so it comes out hot and fresh. Comes with provolone cheese, tomatoes, hot peppers (if desired), sauteed mushrooms, and mayo lining to the bun. Overall great experience, tastes home cooked, and it's definitely worth trying. The people who have been here and agree with me, know 'good food'. I religiously watch the food channel, have been brought up by one of the best cooks in the world, my mother, and hope to someday send myself to culinary school, and become a food writer/critic. Why not start here, to glorify a restaurant that deserves the praise for their wonderful and original Philly Sandwich. more

Amazing Food, Dirty Place 11/6/2009

Oh man is the food good. The Philadelphian is the way to go, with everything on it, don't skimp. Get yourself some French fries too. The fry sauce is really good, they put a relish in it, that adds a nice flavor. The place is really dirty and hasn't been cleaned or remolded since the 80's. The staff aren't the friendliest bunch, but they aren't rude either. If you can get past the cover of the book, the reading (reading stands for food in this metaphor) is outrageously good, if a lot unhealthy. I would definitely recommend. Pros: Sandwiches, fry sauce, fresh cut fries Cons: Dirty, the staff isn't exactly "sociable" more

not good 10/3/2009

this place is filthy, the sandwhiches are very dry and minus the flavor. The onion rings are pretty horid and all batter. Pros: good parking Cons: dirty more

Probably the best Local Restaurant I've ever tasted 10/2/2009

The Philadelphian is truly a local gem. I was lucky enough to be enlightened by some co-workers who had found the place. It serves great food at almost unbelievable prices. Be prepared to order when you get to the counter. You won't be sent to the back of the line, but you might hear some grumblings from the regulars behind you! :) A 12 inch philly here is less than $6, used to be less than $5, but we moved away a couple years ago so they may have had to raise their prices. However, a 12 inch philly is more than most grown men can eat. So, you'd be fine with the shorter version. The sandwhich is built on fresh bread, then they add mayo, sliced beef, cheese, onions, mushrooms, and even jalapenos if you want them. Everything is cooked fresh to order - which explains the long wait times. If you get there after 11:30 or 12, you might wait 20-30 minutes for your food. One thing to note is that this is a local dive - it is not exactly a place to come dressed in your Sunday best. However, my wife is a bit of a restaurant snob, and she had no problems with the decor. Once you taste their food, you won't either. Enjoy!!! Pros: Great Food, Generous Portions, Very Reasonable $ Cons: Possible Long Waits during Peak Hours more

love the philly 3/27/2009

i do love the sandwiches! i still think that moochie's and joni's cafe are better, but do like going to the philadelphian for variety. but i am treated so rudely on the phone and at the front desk i think it was my last visit. moochie's, joni's, and east coast are closer any way! its worth trying so give her a whirl, but check the others out first! Pros: sandwiches Cons: service more

Disappointing Philly Cheese Steaks 12/14/2008

They do not serve Philly Cheese Steaks. They claim to serve Philly Cheese Steaks, but being from Philadelphia....these are not even close. They don't use the right type of meat, or rolls. As a philadelphian they do not get my endorsement. They use freak'n roast beef.....there is no roast beef in a cheese steak. If they could magically move the Philadelphian to Philly they would be out of business in a week. Possibly the worst attempt at forging a cheese steak I have ever seen. Very disappointing. Cons: No real cheese steaks here more

Still dreaming 10/3/2008

I was only 13 when I first went there! Now just about to turn 23 I can still remember the amazing taste of the philly! Gross place yes, Beyond great food yes, Go now stop reading and drive there now!...... What your still reading? GO! Pros: FOOD! Cons: Location for me more

Best Philly Steak in town 5/8/2008

Definitely the best philly cheese steak sandwich I've had! The fries are yummy, just as they should be in a greasy diner as this. I'm surprised the health Inspectors haven't shut them down. But I'm glad, 'cause where else could I go? Pros: Food, fries Cons: Grungy tables, chairs and carpet more

Good subs, Dirty place! 10/14/2007

Subs are great but fries are awful, oily, just gross? The place was very dirty, and messy, has a great potential but it needs a lot of work! Pros: Great subs! Cons: Dirty and Messy! more

Most Authentic Eastern Sandwihes in Utah 9/3/2007

It's not the healthiest place in the world, the atmosphere actually adds to the ambiance that you are getting some of the best tasting meat sandwiches in Utah - on the cheap. The Philly sandwich is probably the most authentic one in the state. I love the "Hot combo". Be sure to try to fried mushrooms. Pros: TASTE, Price Cons: Ambience, but it adds to the character of the sandwiches. Come early for lunch. There is a line. more

I miss my Philly steaks! 7/27/2007

I was just sitting here at work in Plano Texas getting hungry when all of a sudden The Philadelphian restaurant in Sandy Utah popped into my head...I haven't had a sandwich there in about 8 years and I can still taste them....Oh how I wish I was at the Philadelphian....definitely the best sandwiches ever. Pros: great food Cons: not a franchise more

Amazing food 4/25/2007

The food at the Philadelphian is amazing, if you can get by the look of the store. The inside is kind of dingy, but once you taste the food, you won't care. Pros: Amazing food w/ a good price. Generally not busy. Cons: the atmosphere more
