My cat is a huge fluffy bear of an animal. He tends to get lethargic in the warmer months wearing his fur coat, so in the summer of 2007 I began looking online for an in-home groomer who would be willing to wrestle dear Allister into a cooler summer outfit. I got lucky and found The Pet Maven!!! What a gem! Not only did she have Allister looking fabulous but she was able to do so with grace! Allister is large, set in his ways and strong. I was worried about taking him to a groomer because I was afraid the trauma of travel plus the process itself might be too much for the big guy. The Pet Maven has become a summer time tradition. She has the precision, patience and obvious love for animals you would hope for in a groomer and will travel to the comforts of your home. My bichon is 12 years old and trembles when I used to take her to the groomer. Not only was she locked in a cage for the better part of the day, I never knew when she would be done. With The Pet Maven, she's in her own environment, cage free, and she is completely beautiful in just about 2 hours. I couldn't ask for more, and she uses all organic products. Helen of the Pet Maven was very professional from our phone consultation right to the actual groom. Unlike pet grooming shops who use physical restraints, Helen uses little to no restraint and gets the job done! My Mitzy, a maltese mix, had the dirtiest paws and a bunch of mats. Yes, I spoil my dog but doesn't everyone? She came on time, was very thorough but left a huge mess. When she arrived I had the doggy hose hooked up to the shower, shampoo and conditioner and towels all laid out. My dog has sensitive skin and is allergic to practically everything so I made sure she used my shampoo & conditioner. I already explained that my dog has been severely sliced open with clippers and have been nicked and cut by several other groomers before so naturally the kid is nervous. Anyways, grooming went well she was very gentle and his cut was beautiful, but is it seriously necessary to complain about your client in front of your client? Maybe she was in a bad mood or something. Yes my dog is antsy and he wouldn't sit still and refuses to give her his paw, he's just afraid of groomers. She kept saying stuff like, ""No wonder you're so bad, your mommy spoils you rotten."" I'm not one of those ""purse puppy"" people, my dog is well trained and I work very hard at it everyday. Anyways, it was expensive, I paid her and gave her a very good tip. She basically told me she refuses to groom him again unless I wasn't around, it's been two years I haven't called her since. One of my cats absolutely needs to be groomed every 6 months. After my vet's office stopped grooming, I was in a panic. I found Helen of Pet Maven online and after speaking to her on the phone, felt very comfortable letting her work on Betsy. \r \r I was not disappointed. Prior to meeting Helen, I was bringing my cat to neighborhood grooming salons. It was always a stressful experience. Every time I found a groomer I felt comfortable leaving my cat with, they were never to be found again. I hated passing my cat to strangers knowing she was going to be left with a bunch of other animals and possibly man handled....very stressful for my 16 yr old cat and me! Finding Helen was a blessing! She comes to my home and grooms my cat right on my couch. Helen is gentle with my frail, timid cat; I trust her and my cat always looks beautiful! We spoke with Helen several times on the phone before scheduling her visit, since none of our cats (all seniors) had ever been properly groomed. She answered all our questions and put us at ease. She arrived on time, was very friendly with us and the cats, and handled her ""client"" with great skill (even though he struggled quite a bit!) She shaved him down and gave him a shampoo. We'll definitely use her again for our other cats - highly recommended. more

Helen the owner and groomer of The Pet Maven was amazing with my ""scardey cat"" Tatiana. She was calm (much calmer than me) and had so much patience with my kitty. Talk about a great "" beside manner"" and a fantastic result! Tatiana feels so good and immediately after her bath, was back to playing. Helen at the Pet Maven comes to you home on time and prepared. I have found it is a much better experience for my pet having me help. She is calmer which is conducive to a better groom. Helen is gentle and patient. The cost of in-home grooming is higher but I've found it is worth it not having the hassle of getting a pet in a carrier, dropping them off at the groomer, picking them up etc...\r Overall great experience...worth the extra dough. Let me first start off by saying that I'm a totally neurotic doggy mommy. I do not trust anyone to take care of my 2 little ones, much less stick scissors in their face. In the past, I begrudgingly took my 2 toy dogs to the groomer only when necessary and was extremely nervous each time I dropped them off. My father once took his dog to the groomer only to find that the careless groomer has sliced his dogs eyelid wide open. Then I found HELEN....Helen, where have you been all of my life? Helen gave Biscuit the best haircut she has ever had, listened to everything I said, and most importantly, gave me peace of mind that my pet was safe and in good hands. The price is a little higher than some of the other groomers, but you really cant put a price on safety of your pet. She's worth every penny and then some! I saw all the great reviews on Citysearch and decided to call her to make an apointment for my little Maltipoo, Leo (4 1/2 month). She was super friendly over the phone. She was on time (actually she came 5 mins early) and was great w/ my puppy. She took few pictures of my puppy and sent them over to my email few days later w/ an email asking how Leo was doing. Helen is just wonderful and I would recommend her in a heartbeat to anyone who has dogs/cats! Pros: Comes to your house to groom & very friendly more

helen has groomed my shih tzu twice and has always done a fantastic job - not only with the haircut itself but also calming and assuring my timid rescue dog, making the whole experience much less stressful for both of us. helen is all of the things the prior reviews praise her for being: experienced, reliable, professional and helpful. however, what stands out the most for me is the fact that she really listens to your concerns, thoughts and desires regarding the grooming. Helen took my 6 month old puppy Lulu in on very short notice and gave her such a good cut that Lulu charmed people on our flights all the way from New York to Fargo. Lulu is a Pomeranian/Bichon mix and had been going through the 'puppy ugly' stage--fur of every length--and Lulu hated being brushed. She'd never had a bath or blow-dry either, so I was petrified of getting her groomed, particularly after reading some of the online reviews for groomers in Brooklyn (they mentioned cuts and tears, etc.). Helen was able to give Lulu a bath, a full groom--nails, you name it--and now Lulu walks over to me when I blow-dry my hair for a few puffs of air herself. Helen is a TERRIFIC groomer. more

We were in a jam, and I needed a cat sitter in a moments time! When I called The Pet Maven someone answered my call promptly and provided me with a cat sitter immediately who set an appointment to meet with me and go over my cat's needs. Not only was the cat sitter responsive to my needs for someone to look after my cats immediately, the sitter was mature, efficient and a true cat lover. The Pet Maven's professional and responsive demeanor put me at ease. I had no doubt my cats were in good hands and well taken care of. Pet Maven groomer Helen is fantastic.unbelievable.This is my story due ;to problems with other groomers it came to the point I became leary and fearful as my pooch had been razor burned and became sick after he was groomed.Due to that fear his hair became really matted and i kept bathing him but i was informed that bathing a dog when the hair is matted makes it worse.So now my pooch was matted and dirty but again i was scared he was goping to get hurt.I read on different groomers as i did not want my dog to sufferland deceidedt o take a chance on ms.Helen of pet maven>he Best decicision i ever made she came to my home and proceeded to take care of my dog.She shaved him paid attention to details spoke to my pooch made sure he was comfortable and me as well my friends were very impressed with helen and her professionalism her kindness and gentle ness she pampered my baby .for those of you who dont know what shaving entails it is a very serious job .she is the absolute best groomer .She not only eased my dogs fear but mine as well.I will continue to keep helen as my groomer.
