best fried calamari I've ever eaten:) 10/8/2010

I really like this place altough I'm not a big fan of Asian cuisine...nevertheless, I like Morningside Thai a lot specially because of it's super friendly atmosphere, very nice staff, nicely decorated interior and most important - fried calamari!! I hate when calamari have to much breadcrumbs and here the amount is just perfect...just a touch with great spices! Very unique... more

Thai served well 9/6/2008

Good food found on Morningside. Satay very nice. Plenty of choices for entrees. We really liked the no cork fee. Pros: no cork fee more

Eat at your own risk 8/4/2008

I didn't plan on giving reviews on citysearch, but when I saw someone give Morningside a recent 5 star review, I had to say join and say something. This place has gone so far down hill. The building is not safe. I wouldn't be surprised if it is going to be condemned before long. Someone could fall through the floor. The food was really not good. If they can't repair the basics, what corners are they cutting in the kitchen? I have been a few times over the past years, and it used to be a very nice place with really tasty food. It is too far gone now. more

One of the best Thai restaurant. 7/14/2008

We tried this restaurant based on friends recommendation. It's really worth the drive to get there. more

So sad 5/11/2008

We had been going to this restaurant for ... 10 years ... until our last visit, which will be our very last. I am quite sure my husband is a previous 5-star review (he has also given up on this place and agrees with my 1 star review). It used to be such a neat little place, with wonderful food and very comfortable for family dining or staying out late chatting with friends. But the quality has gone down so much. The building is falling apart, its hard to even walks across the floor for fear of it breaking. I am surprised its passed inspections. The food kept us coming back even with the building decline, but no more. It is so awful now. The spicy is bland, the food tastes old. The flavor isn't there. The final straw was I ordered Pad Thai and when it came the lime had been squeezed...several times. It was dry and mashed beyond belief. I am quite sure it wasnt on my dish either. You can tell they are fighting to stay afloat, no liquor license, building falling apart and now cutting corners with the food and perhaps reusing food items. Now we are on a hunt for a good Thai place, sorry Morningside, we will miss the good old days. more

Worst Thai in Houston 1/22/2008

I have been here twice and have been disappointed both times. They do not season the food. I ordered chicken pad thai and was given oily noodles and chicken with no seasoning. Recently, I ordered a dish to-go and they had not even made it! I had to wait twenty minutes past when they said it would be ready. It normally wouldn't be a big deal, but when you have an hour for lunch it makes a difference. Pros: nice and quiet area Cons: bad food and untimely service more

Great, quiet, neighborhood place 11/26/2007

My husband and I discovered this place pretty recently. The food was fantastic and the service was great. The retaurant itself is small and very quiet, but I love that it never gets very crowded. The best part about it is that it is BYOB! Pros: Food, service Cons: Too empty sometimes more

Great Neighborhood Place 10/11/2006

I can't believe we have lived so close all these years and never ate there. It is now our favorite, easy in and out reastaurent to head to after work. All the appetizers are great, and one can make a meal just loading up on them. The red pepper curry sauces are excellent. However, we did find that the entree portions are not as generous as other restaurants in this genre. The restaurant has a strong neighborhood following and provides take out. Pros: Very good food, good service, quiet Cons: No alcohol served by the establishment but you can BYOB more

Very Good! 12/9/2005

Foodie 11/3/2003

This is quite possibly the best Thai food I have ever had. The service was pleasant and prompt and the prices are more than reasonable for the sheer quality of this culinary adventure! Pros: Ample parking, Great service more

the best thai 6/15/2003

We've been going to this place for years and highly enjoy it. It's the best Thai food in Houston. Fresh vegetables, yummy sauces, good service, and we've never had to wait to get a table. more

Head and Shoulders above the rest 6/15/2003

In a city with a glut of Thai restaurants, it may seem hard to pick out a place that's the ""best"". However, that's only if you've never been to Morningside. As far as the food there, I can only say that there's a reason it's known as ""The Good Place"" among my friends, with no further clarification needed. The cheese rolls are a favorite appetizer, but all the appetizers are sure to please. The Tom Yum and Tom Kha Ghai are both fabulous (these are Thai soups, for those who don't know). For main dishes, Basil Beef, Spicy Duck, Massamon, Tiger Cried, and Pad Thai are all high points, but with a menu that's 7 pages long you'll be sure to find a new treasure each time you go. Pros: Moderately Priced, Courteous Staff, Ample Seating Cons: Limited Parking more

Best Thai! 3/2/2003

Excellent food and service! A hidden gem in Houston. Great for groups... We love it! more

Great Lunch! 6/28/2002

Lunch specials are excellent - menu is varied and portions are plentiful. The lunch special consists of spring roll, soup (only one choice of soup, but it was extremely flavorful and surprisingly spicy), salad (small but great dressing), and entree. The spiciness ratings were found to be inconsistent. Service was friendly and fast, and prices were extremely reasonable. The building looks vacant from the outside, but the interior is charming and pleasant. Overall a great choice for a Thai lunch. more
