Best

If you love fondue, this is the place that you must go. The restaurant is kind of hidden in the office building. But their service and food is very good.

Worst

I was very disappointed with this restaurant. The ambience and the decor was very nice and cozy, but the cheese fondue was not good at all! You can't even taste the cheese in the ...

Try it...it's fun 7/29/2003

We recently went for a friend's Birthday - the one tough part was we had 16 people and were seated at two separate tables. It worked out all the same - the Oh La La fondue was fantastic as were the beef and sausages. I would agree that the service was rather brisk but I think that's more a function of the staff actually being European where people are not ""overly-polite"" as most Americans (yes I am one) are used to. We had a lot of fun eating there and I think it would be a great place for a still getting to know you/second date. Pros: Fun, Great Food, Unique Cons: Drinks are pricey, Food took a while more

Great food, best meat/wine fondue I.ve ever had. Feel like I'm in Swiss....Love it! Can't wait to go there again. more

Are we talking about the same restaurant 11/5/2002

I'm rather suprised at some of the ratings I've been reading here for the Matterhorn. The service on the many occasions I've been there has been nothing short of professional and courteous. It's brisk and efficient, but not unfriendly. I've had many of the cheese fondues, and the food is generally outstanding, though the desserts need a little work. This is a simple, straightforward fondue restaurant that is, according to Swiss friends of mine, almost exactly like one would find in Switzerland. more

GREAT COUNTRY...GREAT RESTAURANT!! 10/27/2002

""Matterhorn Swiss Restaurant"" is the BEST restaurant that I have been to in a long time. I travel for my job and I get to enjoy restaurants all over the U.S. While in San Francisco, I heard about this place and thought I'd try it. Since I lived in Switzerland for a while, I knew what type of Ethnicity I expected. Well... needless to say, I got it. The hospitality that I received was the BEST I have ever seen. So many restaurants forget this great asset in employees. I am happy to say that I was deeply impressed with their service attitude. The food was also grate and was very delicious. I recommend the dessert. MMMMM good. Pros: food selection, service oriented, atmosphere Cons: food price, hours of service more

fine eats! 10/21/2002

i go here every year for my birthday. it's a bit expensive for your average working girl, but it's worth it. you get tons of stuff to dip, and you will leave stuffed! the service is professional and good. Pros: food, atmosphere, service Cons: parking (none) more

Don't miss the Swiss! 8/17/2002

Great service, good cheese, comfortably elegant Swiss lodge ambience, we recommend the apples and the Riesling. more

like in switzerland 8/14/2002

Going to the Matterhorn is the next best thing to Swizterland. Authentic food, efficient service and lots of ambience. Compared to Saratogas La Fondue: the Matterhorn is the much better deal!! Pros: great service, ambience more

WORST Dining Experience 7/31/2002

We chose this restaurant for a friend's birthday and it was a terrible choice. I would NOT recommend this restaurant. Our service was terrible -- it took at least 30 minutes for them to come and take our order and after the waiter got our order wrong, he cursed at our table. It was extremely unpleasant. Additionally, a friend brought a bottle of champagne as a gift for our friend and they charged us a $35 corkage fee...MUCH higher than many restaurants and more expensive than the four bottles of wine that we ordered at the restaurant. I found the staff to be extremely rude and unpleasant. I would not contemplate ever returning to this establishment. Pros: Food Cons: Service, Attitude of Staff more

One of my Favorites 7/3/2002

Having lived and worked at a Swiss hotel growing up, this is an authentic Swiss dining experience! Fantastic food, warm atmosphere with wonderful woodwork, excellent Swiss (non-intrusive) service. It is not cheap, but well worth the money. Non-fondue items are solid, but for your first visit, a cheese fondue to start and Fondue Chinoise this is where they shine. Wine list is ample, fine array of aperitifs and good coffee. Chocolate fondue is a must for dessert. Most critics of this restaurant complain about service: NEWSFLASH -- European service ideals are different from the American ideal... Your server will be courteous and efficient, but will LEAVE YOU ALONE, not visiting the table every three minutes... It will be a long meal: this is not the place to go before the opera or theater. It is best suited for large, social gatherings that will be the focus of the evening. Pros: Valet Parking, Outstanding Fondues, Great for Groups Cons: Spendy, Always Busy, Takes Full Evening more
