My fav 6/19/2010

I've visited many area yoga studios. This is my fav! The instructors are knowledgeable, nurturing, fun. There is a good rotation of different teachers that keeps it fresh, and each class is unique -- no cookie cutter format and several time options each day makes it easy to find time in my schedule to go. The studio is pretty and immaculately kept, appropriately lit (no glaring lights) and the room temperature is kept warm, but not excessively hot. 'The owner is on site frequently and comes up with frequent new events and activities, bringing local leaders and nationally known yogis in for special events. The price is reasonable -- towel service is comp and you can borrow a mat without charge. Most of all, there is a very positive spirit amongst the people who teach and practice there. I always leave feeling refreshed and uplifted. Pros: positive spirit, uplifting more

Yoga at The Mat - A Life Saver 6/14/2010

For the last 12 years I’ve been in rape therapy and trying to recover from PTSD. Nothing at all could seem to curb the massive anxiety I had endured throughout that time. I had panic attacks that started when I woke up and lasted until bedtime. Depression and anxiety medications made me gain huge amounts of weight, and talk therapy can only do so much. I started my yoga practice with The Mat about 1.5 years ago, when they were owned by another company. Life became increasingly better the more I came. I continue to go 5x’s a week and that keeps the panic attacks away and has reduced my anxiety 90%. I’ve also lost 45 lbs, have no more backaches, look much better, and feel awesomely healthy and happy (finally)! When they changed ownership last year, I was scared it wouldn’t be the same. That is by far not the case. They’ve become even better. The owner is extremely devoted to The Mat, being that it’s the only studio she owns. I recommend this place to my friends all the time, and am now recommending it to you with all my heart. Give it a try. You wont be sorry! Pros: several class levels, very experienced teachers more

My New Favorite Place 6/13/2010

I am a relatively new member of The Mat,but in the past month I have become aware of a few things. One, The Mat is a place where I do not mind making the effort to come. In the past 4 years I have put on weight and become mentally bogged down with life. I can honestly say that in my first month at the MAT, I am learning to live for myself and my inner wellness again. It is such a welcoming, non-judgmental place where people of every race, age, weight, skill-level can come and feel like they are a pro. The Mat has found a life long member in me. Pros: Inner peace and a great full body workout Cons: That I do not have time to go all the time! more

Perfect place for your practice 6/13/2010

I came up with a lot of excuses not to do Yoga, from I'm just too busy with work, I just don't have time,or the location is far. Until a few months ago, I signed up for 30 days for $39 at The Mat. I tried different classes with different instructors. I enjoyed all of them and I still do. Now I feel the need to spend one hour for myself, leave everything outside The Mat and feel great after yoga. No matter how busy my day is at work, I always look forward to going to The Mat and practice my inner peace. The Mat offers different classes that suit you. I'm still a beginner and I don't feel pressured if I am not able to do the advance poses. The instructors always tell us not to expect result from each pose or give judgement but flow with the breath and let each breath move you. The Mat also have great community. You will always feel welcome... and you will move, awaken, and transform. I would really recommend The Mat to everyone. Pros: Great classes, great instructors, great community more

Sanctuary for your practice 6/9/2010

The MAT yoga studio is a sanctuary, always immaculately clean with peaceful, calm energy. The teachers, including Julie Wright*, are well-trained, knowledgeable, true to their yoga yogi(ni)s and offer vinyasa flow that is challenging for both beginning and advanced practitioners. The MAT has a very friendly and helpful staff and a community of students that are welcoming and engaging. The studio is small enough to receive private instruction and adjustments, and the intimate setting provides a feeling of community and connection. I practice at many studios around town on a weekly basis, and always look forward to my classes at the MAT. It is a true Yoga studio, and one that is involved in community outreach as well as a physical practice. Do not miss this little gem! Pros: Wonderful teachers, friendly students, powerful flow more
