Editorial review from Citysearch 8/10/2013

I used to work here. Everyone reviewing should know if you write a bad review of a particular employee, that employee will be fired with no opportunity to clarify or provide information. Even if the mangers/owners suspect that a poor review may be about either ""employee one"" or ""employee two"", they will just fire both. \r \r The staff is overworked and underpaid, so keep that in mind when writing your review.\r \r I'm not writing this as a scorned ex-employee, in fact I gave my two weeks notice and still frequent the place, I liked my peers and actually liked the managers and owners but the restaurant/bar industry is notoriously known for overworking and under paying staff, that's just the way it is. Also note servers and bartenders get no paycheck, they rely solely on tips to make ends meet. If you don't tip, your server just worked for free.\r \r Compensation varies from state to state, Colorado happens to be a state where the industry isn't required to pay employees hourly unless their declared tips for the fiscal week averages out to be under minimum wage. In that case the employer is required to compensate the employee with a check to ensure compliance with minimum wage laws.\r \r The food is yummy, the selection of alcohol is amazing, and overall, its a fun place to hangout, joke around with your server/bartender and have a drink and some food with friends. Oh yeah, Happy hour? It's an amazing deal! more

I have been in a few times now, and 4/15/2012

I have been in a few times now, and have always liked the food drinks and atmosphere. I was in today and my server, Ally, was amazing, I asked if she was new because I hadn't seen her before and she said it was one of her first shifts. She was polite, energetic, and always smiling. I could see her acting the same way towards her other guests. The service was awesome and she was attentive and helpful. This was refreshing because a lot of bars on Colfax have servers who are aloof and almost ""annoyed"" by the fact that they are serving people. The whole staff was wonderful and you could tell everyone was helping everyone with a smile on their faces. I will definatley be back. Great Staff, great food, and nicley priced drinks. The bartender was also very nice to us as well. Good selection and brunch menu was delicious. $9 all-you-can-drink mimosas didn't hurt either more

Potato Pie 2/10/2012

I just ate the shephards pie at the Irish Snug. The thing was like 75 percent potato. There couldn't have been more than a table spoon of meat in it. I mean it was potato done well, but I really had more in mind for dinner than a plate of potato with a tiny bit of meat and a few peas in a little gravey. True, it only cost ten dollars, but for ten dollars would it have hurt to put some meat in it. The menu said that it would have meat in it, but it really didn't. So if you're hungry for potatoes, get the shepherd pie at the Irish Snug. more

Awful service. No parking. Food was NOT authentic, and cold by the time my server brought it to the table. more

Love the snug, but it's not what it used to be 1/5/2010

The Irish Snug is my favorite bar in Denver. I've been going since 2005 (though irregularly since the basement was added) and I've always loved the look and feel. It's as close as you can get to experiencing an Irish pub without having to skip over the pond to Dublin. However, since the basement was added a while back, it went from a tight-knit and down-to-earth regular crowd to it becoming a trendier, busier bar with lots of frat boys. I'd still recommend it, especially during warm summer days and whenever the trad group is playing. They have great happy hour deals and their curry chips are great! Pros: Feels like a Dublin pub without spending on the plane ticket Cons: It's become a bit frat-boy since the basement was added more

Great piece of Dublin in the heart of Denver 12/15/2008

Stopped by here for a quick few drinks before the English Beat concert last Thursday and couldn't have been happier. 2 for 1 happy hour and $3.95 appetizers (try the Irish eggrolls! sound f@{[ing gross but taste great). Oh and they have $3 Car Bombs!!!!! The bartender kept our glasses full and he even told us to cash in our free drink tickets at 7 so as not to miss the end of happy hour. Their Snug red ale is a good choice, but the Guinness here is unbeatable especially when poured properly by a real Dubliner. We came back after the show and to get some food and some more car bombs and they had $3 pints till close. All in all a great irish bar with great service, apparently they have live music on Wednesdays and Saturdays too. more

Downstairs is a hidden treasure! 3/28/2008

Every time I go to the Snug I have a great time. The crowd is a more easy going, friendly crowd just enjoying a good beer. The happy hour is a really good deal: Monday through Friday from 4-7 2 for 1's and really great appetizer prices...you have to try to corned beef eggrolls...AMAZING! The bar gets crowded so of course service will be slow. I hosted an event with 80 people and they didn't staff the downstairs bar as it should have been but I blame that on management, not the servers or bartenders...they were great! Try out Trivia downstairs on a Tuesday, the place gets packed! Pros: The huge downstairs area Cons: Bar wait times can sometimes be long but you can always go to the bar upstairs as well. more

ick! 3/21/2008

I went here once during happy hour and I thought it was great so I went back again when i had a friend visiting from out of town. We sat at the bar and ordered food and things were great-until a ""creature of the night"" scurried its way across the counter! TWICE! The bartender didn't even seemed surprised when we told her. We were not comped for anything and simply told ""sorry."" I will not go there simply based on this fact. Pros: great happy hour Cons: ""night critters"" more

The absolute worst! 3/17/2008

By the far the worst experience I have ever had in a restaurant. St. P's day is the day to shine of you are an Irish establishment...instead food was served in microwaveable dishes, the corned beef was surely Hormel Sliced Corned beef readily availible at any grocery store, and the potatoes were surely dried mashed potatoes. Our server was so slow it was ridiculous. I know its a busy day for any Irish food place, but come on - the chefs/food defrosters should be embarrassed. more

BEST HH AND LATE NIGHT! In Denver! 8/30/2007

AWESOME LATE NIGHT, HAPPY HR (HAPPYNESS IN GENERAL), AND ALL THE TIME GREAT COMPANY!!! I am dissapointed though that the patio does not alow dogs anymore! I brought my 2 malamutes to the snug a few days ago and they (and I and our waitress) were VERY upset with the HI's decision to reject our furry guests. The servers seemed sorry as well! The only quam I have with the service is the bartender......Erin?? Eric??? something of the sort... very rude. But thanks for the great time!!! Thanks!!! more

Great Live Music and Service 7/15/2007

I stumbled across the Irish Snug by mistake one Thursday evening. This bar is like no other in Denver. The first floor is a tastefully done traditional Irish style pub. I got a drink at the bar by myself, I was instantly made to feel welcome by the bartender. I had dinner and the food came out quick and the Salmon was very fresh and tasty. While sitting at the bar the bartender asked if I had seen downstairs? There is more I asked. The bartender explained that they had a newly added a addition to the Pub. Under the Snug. I went down. Wow!! The place was beautiful. Irish pictures on the walls, exposed brick, a lounge and another beautiful bar. There was a band playing that was amazing. I usually go downtown to listen to live music and pay to get in. Here however, I paid nothing and listened to one of the best bands I have heard in a while. The Irish Snug was a amazing find. I try to go in weekly to listen to music and meet people. The Irish Snug is one of my favorite spots in Denver. more

Someone needs to make a change over there.... 6/22/2007

I live less than one block away from The Snug and I would consider myself a local at this point. The beers are delicious and the new downstairs has been renovated with plasma TVs on the wall. There are also some pool tables that you have to PAY for, which I think is pretty weak. I have a large network of friends that go to the Snug for convenience and to sit outside near home and not have to drive or park. Everyone will tell you that the quality of service is very inconsistent and they most often have to wait upwards of 10-15 minutes to even get a beer let alone food. The Irish Snug's food is pretty cheap pub food, but they do have some healthy dishes that I can eat on a regular basis. The service is quite rediculous. I hate to say it because the place has so much potential. I don't know if I would recommend anyone to make a special trip. If you live on the block or maybe 2 blocks, then go for it, but other than that..... wait until they get things together. As a local I have been in several arguments with the grouchy bartenders there who pour weak drinks. I will not tolerate weak drinks when you are paying and when you call them out on it, they ignore you all night. Don't bother with this place. Pros: Great beer, cool mellow atmosphere, great people watching, solid happy hour. Cons: Pay for pool, incompetent service, bartenders are always jerks, always screw up order... more

Terrible, terrible service! 5/21/2007

I recently was in the neighborhood and decided to have bruch here on Saturday morning. The sign said to seat yourself which I did. I sat there for almost 15 minutes and finally flagged down a server. I know the bartender saw me when I came in, but no one ever came over. I always try to cut servers some slack since I was a waitress back in the day, but this was nuts, the restaurant was completely empty except for me and one other table which had 2 people at it. The gentleman at the only other table at one point had to go in search of the server as well to get refills on their drinks. Pros: Brunch drink prices, decor Cons: Terrible service!!! more

TERRIBLE Service and Mediocre Food 3/17/2007

It is a fairly nice space with a good happy hour, and I really wanted to like this place, but the bartenders make it impossible. The service I have received there on both of my visits was TERRIBLE! Not only are the bartenders incompetent, they have an attitude, too! Also, the food I have had here has been barely passible. I have given it two chances and I won't go back. There are plenty of places in Denver that are nicer, and have an equal or better happy hour, without the poor service or bad attitudes. Pros: Can't think of any. Cons: SERVICE IS TERRIBLE!!! Food is not very good. more

The irish embassy on Colfax! 8/9/2006

You could describe the 'Snug' in one word BRILLIANT! The food is great and the drinks are better ($3 Irish Car Bombs on Thursdays! hell yeah!). Great happy hour too! I love hanging out on the patio. The place rocks on the weekends, Friday and Saturday are usually packed, I'm sure I'll see you there! Pros: Great food, drinks and service, they know what they're doing here. Cons: They close at 2am! Cmon Denver wake up to the late night bar scene more
