Best

I loved the atmosphere. They were very friendly even for a sunday night. They had awesome specials. All my shots were on the deal. The appatizers were delicious. I loved it and I ...

Worst

Had the party room for a birthday gathering. Preordered some food that should have been served on a separate table. Instead the food was randomly placed in front of guests who t...

Excellent food I will never return for... 7/13/2006

I want to start off by saying that the food was excellent - creative, fun, well prepared menu ideas - hats off to the chef...Unfortuanatly the service was so horrible, I will never return! Pros: Excellent food and menu Cons: Parking, mixed review on service. One good and one bad visit., Parking more

BORING ... not horrible 4/3/2006

It is ok - not the best use of dinner money...the wait staff are kind of in your face without being that helpful. The menu is just boring - they need to incorporate more choices ... I kind of miss the Smiling moose...I know that was kind of a goofy place too..but at least the food was good. more

A Great Happy Hour 2/2/2006

Loved the decor and the Wednesday night ambiance DJ ... yes, the service was slow, but the place was also jam-packed. Great food and decent prices (not to mention the happy hour that runs till 9pm on Wednesdays!). If you love a good happy hour menu and a place that is fun and funky, give it a try! Pros: Wed happy hour til 9, Atmosphere, Wednesday nite DJ Cons: Slow service, Can be crowded more

Not the greatest 1/22/2006

Just didn't meet my expectations...service was slow, especially for lunch when I have only an hour to get back to work. I asked to talk to a manager, I was told she would be right out and she never showed up. Are you kidding? The food was good, although I question what took so long as it wasn't busy at all. Overall, just not very impressive. Pros: No waiting for lunch Cons: Slow service, Inattentive managemen more

Less than ""classy"" 12/14/2005

I tried the Independent on a Saturday night a short while ago on a recommendation from a friend that this place was trying to bring a ""Classy"" lounge establishment into Uptown. What I found was an below-average place trying to be a ghetto-trash club. The DJ was spinning gangster rap laced with F-bombs every other word. Nice dinner ambiance. As I screamed to be heard by my date on the other side of the table, a raucous squable at a neighboring table turned into a violent brawl which had to be broken up by the bar staff and a by-stander as security was non-existent. Thank goodness for the smoking ban - the adjoining ""Smoke Room"" provided just enough of a smoke waft to prove annoying. Service was okay, but not great. All-in-all, a bad experience. Pros: good martini Cons: lack of security, DJ sucked, classless more

Cool and hip 11/8/2005

I think it's a great place to hang out, the food has changed for the good, and what an awesome decor. I've also heard the employees talk about how they love their bosses and I think that says a lot about a place. Try it! You won't be disappointed and it's better than being occupied by yet another chain! Remember: Chains are made for fences not for good food. Pros: ambience, decor, bartenders more

Big Fan 8/29/2005

I really enjoy eating at The Independent for all sorts of events. Chef Steph is amazing and you NEED to try the veggie burger. Also, make a point to hit the Sunday Brunch. $10 for brunch and a bloody?? You can't beat it! more

I liked it ok.- hubby didn't 3/12/2005

I have had the fruit & cheese plate several times. It's great, fresh and tasty. My husband has had several of the sandwiches, and thinks the food is way too salty. I'm glad to see the place is a little different type of place than some of the new additions to Uptown. Pros: Location, Big portions Cons: Too salty, Service so-so more

A fun place to have a few 7/22/2004

A nice neighborhood bar. Good drinks, great staff and a friendly atmosphere, get a table in back of the bar or on the patio and enjoy an evening with friends. The snacks are great but the food is hit or miss. A great place to have a few before dinner. more

Poor Service 5/16/2004

Service was annoyingly slow... A different waiter or waitress brought each course of our food out to us, and passed by our table every time! They obviously do not have a system for keeping track of what dinners go to what tables (a table next to us had the same problem and had to go to the table next to them to get their food). The appetizers were cold, the food was bland. The one and only good thing about the place was their drink menu--the drinks we got were decent, though grossly overpriced. Overall, it was a waste of a lot of money. Pros: Drink Menu Cons: , Cold food, BEYOND slow... more

Good Neighborhood Place 2/19/2004

I read the reviews about smokey atmosphere and bad food, but stilled tried this place out since I live in the area. We had great homemade food, good (but nicely laid back) service, and the smoke wasn't bad. I ask a waitress about the recent smoke complaints and she told me they just installed new smoke ventillation. She also said their new chef had made the menu a lot better. We had 4 courses and all were great. I'll definately go back. They might have lacked at first, but they seem on track now. Pros: Fun, Good New Menu, Pleasant Service Cons: , A Little Noisy more

Remember. It's a bar. 2/1/2004

It's loud and smokey and they menu offers passable bar fare food. The wait staff is inattentive. This restaurant bears no likeness to the CitySearch Editorial Review. Cons: , Smokey, Inattentive waitstaff more

Jury is still out... 1/14/2004

Went with a group of friends for dinner. Sat at the bar (very smoky!) first & asked for a wine list. I got a very small list & chose a bottle which I took to the table when we were seated. Once seated, I opened the menu which had a much larger wine selection. Not sure why I wasn't offered that at the bar? A friend and I shared appetizers for our meal and they were fine-nothing to write home about. Others commented that theirs were either bland (fish sandwich) to good (a salad.) The decor is funky, but the table we were seated at I would not consider comfortable. The bathroom is interesting as well-it's unisex. There are only 2 of each in this room, divided by a little swinging door. The line was long and it was a Wed. night at 6:30-I can't imagine being there on Thurs-Sat! Pros: funky atmosphere Cons: bathrooms, smoky more

Terrible 12/22/2003

We asked for the non smoking section and everyone around us was smoking. This place was filled with smoke! Not something I want when I eat. The waitress was not very good, she walked past us 4 times while we had empty plates sitting. Took us 20 minutes just to get the bill! I do not reccommend. Fine for 21 year olds who don't care about much but that is all. Pros: Good food, Cool party room, not a long wait Cons: terrible service, smoke smoke smoke, very loud more
